javea mountain villa
The location and views from the rear balcony of javea bay are excellent but the property is in need of urgent modernisation. With temperatures around 30 degrees and no air conditioning and just one fan for four bedrooms the heat at night was excessive. The fridge freezer did not work for five days and the property company did not help much. The owner Collette was apologetic and nice but the property needs investment.
Thank you for your comments. The house doesn't have air conditioning, but that is clear in the description. We apologize for the lack of fans and will remedy immediately. Regarding the fridge breaking down and due to having to order a new one, it came on Wednesday, 2 days after you advised our agency.
"La Madrugada" was one of the very first villa's constructed in the area and that is a large part of its straditional charm in an outstanding location. We hope you still managed to have a lovely time and didn't spoil your holiday.
My husband and I spent a month in Xabià at La Madrugada in Jan/Feb and had a lovely time. It was a good base for exploring Alicante. We took day trips to Valencia, Guadalest, Denia, Novelda, Altea, and more - exploring the coast in both directions and heading inland as well. I do advise having a car, as the house is situated up in the hills without many services within walking distance, especially during winter months when quite a few restaurants and shops close for the season.
Xabià is a charming town with very nice beaches and a charming town center - and many English-speakers due to a considerable expat community. I suspect that it's quite a bit more crowded during the summer, but we enjoyed the calm and quiet of wintertime in the region. Days were sunny, but on the cold side for making the most of La Madrugada's best feature, the balcony! We still spent many hours overlooking the sea and Montgó.
La Madrugada is well appointed. As there were only two of us, we closed off the second wing of bedrooms, but there is plenty of room for larger families/groups. We found everything we needed in the kitchen to make nice meals at home. The internet service worked very well for us, which was perfect since we worked remotely during our stay. It also made streaming tv/movies easy; though, there was also satellite tv. The only downside for a winter stay was the absence of a comfy couch for relaxing in front of the cozy fireplace. I'm sure this is not missed in summer when most time is spent outside.
Colette is a terrific hostess! She was very quick with communications throughout the planning process and during our stay. There is also a local management team available for any emergencies (but we had none). Colette maintains a book at the house with many tips for the house, local restaurants, and nearby attractions. You will not be without ideas for things to do!
Lovely property near town and near nature !
We had a lovely stay . You can easily walk to Portichol beach, and, with a little affort you can walk from the house to Granadella beach. The owner is really very helpfull with everything. She send us a lot of information about the property and the surrounding a few weeks before our vacation, so it was easy to find the house, but also for the things to do. We enjoyed it !!!
WE LOVED IT!!
This place is lovely - very comfortable - Colette is amazing, responds right away should you require any information, etc. Do not hesitate !!
We (2 families, 4 adults and 3 children) enjoyed an absolutely wonderful week at La Madrugada. On arrival at the villa when we opened the door onto the terrace, we all let out a collective "wow!" when presented with the view. For the rest of our stay the view continued to amaze us.
The villa itself was wonderful. It was clean, well-presented and we had all the amenities that we needed - the children certainly enjoyed the very good wifi! There was plenty of space for the seven of us and we were extremely comfortable there. We really enjoyed how peaceful and secluded the villa felt but that we were only a short drive to local shops. The beaches, port and old town were also easily accessible by car. The freshly caught local fish and seafood on sale at the port market each evening was absolutely delicious - a real treat!
The owner, Colette, provided an excellent service. She was actually away when I made my initial inquiries and I dealt with her sister Agnes who communicated promptly and offered excellent advice. As other reviewers have mentioned the driving directions provided by Colette were excellent and got us straight to the door of the villa - it would have been a lot harder without it! Colette also provided lots of information about Javea itself - upcoming festivals and events, market days and so on - that was very useful to us especially as our stay was a short one. The letting agency were also situated close to the villa and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Javea itself was a delight. The sandy beach at Arenal was perfect for the children to play while the smaller pebble beach at Granadella was stunningly picturesque. Away from the beaches there was plenty for us all to do: among the highlights was a boat excursion including snorkeling and the view of the town and coast after we went up to the lighthouse was absolutely breathtaking - even the children thought so! Javea old town held its own delights, especially the market and some lovely restaurants serving authentic tapas.
The only downside of our trip was that we were only there for a week. Hopefully we'll be back in Javea and at La Madrugada in the near future. I highly recommend La Madrugada.
We really enjoyed our stay at la Madrugada! Its a wonderful place with everything around you need to feel comfort. The villa is nice situated, well maintained, appointed with everything you need and as described in the listings and photos. A key feature is the large balcony with a amazing view of the bay of Javea!
The contact with the agency was quite positive und without complications.
Altogether theres nothing to complain! We had a really nice holiday at the villa!
Javea is on the Costa Blanca halfway (60 miles) between Valencia, a 'City of Art,' and the beautiful port of Alicante, both of which are served by low cost airlines. The island of Ibiza is only a few hours by boat from the nearby town of Denia.
With its vineyards and fields of orange, almond and olive trees, each season brings its own special charm to the landscape. At Christmas, the orange trees are bent with fruit. In February, the almond trees are in flower and brighten the landscape. At Easter, you will be enchanted by cherry orchards in bloom and the intoxicating aroma of orange blossoms.
