About the property

"Absolutely a great place - Fantastic house, clean, lots of privacy, owners are great to deal with and have attention to detail. Many of the things travelers often forget are in the house for a great convenience. A wonderful place to stay" - Dave B.

Welcome to The King’s Gathering, a private four bedroom, three bathroom log cabin on three levels 1.5 miles south of the Salmon River and the famous lower fly zone in Altmar, NY. Host up to 12 people in our well-appointed 2,300 sq. ft. vacation home offering antiques and modern day conveniences. After catching your salmon or steelhead, hiking or cross-country skiing through our 63 wooded acres surrounded by state and county lands, riding an ATV/snowmobile on area trails (trailheads are minutes from the property), or perhaps kayaking or canoeing in nearby Happy Valley ponds or rivers, rest assured of a great night’s sleep.

Each room is named after a fish that can be caught in the Salmon River. The 'King Room' offers a king bed on the main level surrounded by logs adjacent to a full bath. Upstairs features three bedrooms and a full bathroom. On this floor, the 'Coho Room' sleeps two on a queen bed and is painted the deep greens you would find on this fish. The 'Brown Trout Room' is painted a rich gold similar to the coloration of this fish. The blue 'Rainbow Trout Room' offers two twin beds with accents of red found on this gorgeous fish. The basement features slate flooring and a full bathroom with walk-in shower constructed of marble and river rocks. The basement area is also a great place to gather for board/video games or a friendly game of foosball.

All rooms and bunk bed feature the uber-comfy, exclusive “Marriott Bed” (9” deep foam mattress on a 10 ½” box spring). There are also sleeper sofas (queen & twin) and a twin over full bunk bed available for additional guests. All bed and bath linens provided; down-alternative duvets used.

Enjoy all your home-cooked meals or morning espresso at our custom built farm table that extends to 10 feet and seats up to 14. Grill and eat the day’s catch at the picnic table on the lower back patio. Make s’mores and share tales of the day around the fire pit or challenge one another to horseshoes.

The cabin is 6.4 miles from Exit 34 on I-81 at NY-104 E in the Happy Valley region. Pulaski is 10 miles northwest. Tug Hill region, renowned for incredible snow accumulations, is 20 minutes north/east. 35 minutes south is Syracuse (and Syracuse International Airport). Shop at Destiny USA, one of the top ten largest malls in America. Sackets Harbor and Watertown are 45 minutes north on I-81. Thousand Islands and Alexandria Bay are an hour north. 40 minutes' drive south and you can experience Sylvan Beach Amusement Park, the 'Coney Island' of central NY, and Turning Stone Casino. Peaceful Wilderness Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the cabin with my extended family. There were 11 of us in all and there was plenty of room for us to all spread out. The cabin had everything that we needed including things that we had forgotten to pack, such as laundry detergent. The camp fire area was nice and we spent most evenings around the fire. There was lots of firewood in the wood shed and around the property. I don't remember reading this in the description, but there was a large stable out back that looks like horses could be boarded there. One thing that I would have added was another a/c unit in the upstairs bedroom. There was one night that was very warm and it would have been nice to have 1 more a/c unit upstairs. The rest of the nights were fine. Overall this was a great place to stay and I would definitely recommend it.

Owner's Response: Rachel, thank you for taking the time to write a review. Log cabins have a huge thermal mass and could ratain a lot of heat. Most houses in upstate NY don’t have ductwork installed so I’ve been looking into installing a ductless multi-split heating and cooling system for the entire cabin. Hopefully, I can get that system in for next summer.

Country get away

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay there very much the only complaint we have was there were no screens on the upper windows other than that it was fantastic. The screens would've controlled the bees that were coming into the house.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and we're glad you enjoyed the stay! The screens were removed this winter to be repaired/replaced and will go back up shortly.

great place

  • 4 of 5

great house/cabin, everything was clean and as described

only slight draw back is for snowmobiling is the trail is about 1.5 miles away and the road at the house is plowed pretty good it seems all the time, so, running down the road each day is a little hard on your carbides, in low snow times, I would recommend trailing to the fuel station down the road and leave from there, trail is very close to there and lots of room to park at fuel station!

would for sure stay there again if I have the time

The sprayer in the kitchen sink needs attention. The stove burners are inconsistent. Everything else, great.
