This private oasis is located on the BOTTOM FLOOR of the quiet NORTH side of Konea - the Northern of the 2 condominium towers - far away from the construction on the Westin property SOUTH of the Hokulani tower. You can't be farther from the construction and you won't see or hear it! There simply isn't a better location in the resort.

Enjoy the wide open spacious feeling with 11 foot vaulted ceilings ~ only on the ground floor ~ and 1,230 square feet of interior living space, with 2 master suites and an open living and dining room and kitchen floor plan. Oversized custom glass doors open the entire wall to a large lanai with outdoor dining and lounging furniture, bordering your own private lawn area – you get 420 MORE square feet of furnished outdoor living! From there it is a short one minute walk down a beautifully manicured grassy walkway to the 3 pools, beach, gas BBQ area with Viking grills, and Duke's Restaurant and Bar. I have installed a KEYED lock on the lanai door for secure access.

Surrounded by beautiful tropical vegetation, the back yard is the most private at Honua Kai due to the exceptional landscaping, and our unique location on the Northern border of the resort with a fence hidden by a hedge providing ultimate privacy. Quickest access to the beach, pools, Viking gas BBQs, and Duke's Restaurant. You may also choose to walk out the front door of our condo which is situated right by the door to the interior courtyard. Either way, you reach all of the stunning outdoor attractions of this gorgeous resort faster than almost everyone else staying here - they have to take the elevator! You'll only use the elevator to get to the underground parking garage. My name is Trevor Alt and I am a 48 year old father of a 14 year old daughter, Rachel. In April of 2013, on Kaanapali Beach by Honua Kai I married Toddi, the woman of my dreams and enlarged my family to 6 with her and my 3 stepsons that are 13, 14, and 16. I practiced law in California for 10 years and still hold an inactive membership to the California Bar, but I have been a career firefighter for the Reno Fire Department for 13 years. I am a fitness and health nut and I exercise religiously. The better to drag you out of a burning building with, my dear. I enjoy cycling, water and snow skiing, boating, wakeboarding, golf, and have completed an xterrra sprint triatholon and a half marathon. When I was a young attorney, I starting saving as much as I could and since then I have invested carefully with the goal of living in Hawaii someday. Purchasing this property at incredible Honua Kai is a step toward achieving that goal. When I move to Maui full time I hope to learn to kiteboard and also hope to revive my long dormant golf game. Why Trevor Alt chose West Maui

I've been visiting West Maui all my life and the Honua Kai Resort & Spa is the most luxurious resort ever built here. My family became hooked on the convenience of the ground floor when we traveled here to get married in April 2013 so when this ideal property became available I pounced! We love Duke's Restaurant and the aquatic playground - our kids never want to leave the resort. I love the grand luxury of the Honua Kai Resort and Spa - I feel like a KING when I come here!

I chose this ground floor unit on the North side of the Konea tower at the Honua Kai resort because it is quiet and peaceful here. We don't look across a courtyard into someone else's unit (like the inner courtyard units) and we aren't next to an unfinished resort (like the South facing units in the Hokulani tower). I believe that my combination of ground floor convenience, HUGE living area, and location in the resort offers the best experience and the best value available at Honua Kai, which is the best resort in West Maui. I always try to get a lot for my money and I know my guests want value too - here it is my friends!

What makes this condo unique

My favorite aspect of our second home at Honua Kai is the amazing ground floor convenience! I've installed a keyed lock for the Nana doors for secure back door access. Everything is so close and easy to get to from our condo. From the moment I first walked into Honua Kai I was floored by the uncompromising commitment to quality and attention to detail. We love the huge aquatic playground and the beach and ocean, and I could eat all my meals at Duke's! Ono grinds! My favorite feature of the condominium itself is the custom glass Nana doors that allow you to open the entire wall and seamlessly integrate the tropical outdoors into our vacation home. I also love the vaulted ceilings that you only get on the ground floor.

A new beach-side boardwalk accommodates walkers and joggers for miles of spectacular ocean views and the nearby Islands of Lanai and Molokai. It's a mile and a half walk South from Honua Kai to Black Rock, under two miles from Honua Kai to Whaler's Village. At Honua Kai you are on the world famous Ka'anapali Beach but well away from the crowds that you'll sometimes find in the more densely populated area South of Black Rock.

Our unit is great for 2 couples since each gets a bedroom suite with its own bathroom with large living area between.

Our unit is also wonderful for families or other groups up to 6 (such as my family) since the second bedroom can be made up with 2 twins and the sleeper couch is queen size.

I've also made the unit very 'kid friendly'. I've got a pack n' play portable crib, a Fisher Price portable high chair / booster seat, sippy cups, and 3 DVD/Blueray players I have about 35 kids DVD's and about 30 'regular' movies for grownups to enjoy on one of the three DVD players.

I'm excited about my purchase of 2 Xterra inflatable Stand Up Paddleboards, which are available to my guests for their entire stay for $100 for 1, $150 for both.

Honua Kai was rated the #3 resort in the entire state of Hawaii by Conde Nast traveler.

Ground floor unit. Honua Kai Resort

Our ground floor unit was perfect for this holiday as we were engaged in sharing some time with family staying at Papakea as well as others staying in house here. The location was excellent and the surrounding services and amenities good. The quality of the unit was high, it was very clean and the furnishings were good quality, and although there were a couple of electrical issues that needed attending they did not impact on our holiday. The resort itself is a 4 star hotel and the only thing that I personally found negative was the level of personal attention from staff. We were there 9 days and it did not include one room change of towels and linen. We were not contacted once to ask if we were happy or if there were any problems. I believe these services should be included. In a two bedroom unit that could accommodate 6 there were only 4 dining room chairs around the table. Again as we did not use the room much it did not impact on us but it would have in other circumstances. The restaurant, Dukes at Kaánipali had good food but their reservations policies forced you to book for all required meals and cancel if you changed your mind. I believe this is a waste of time and effort and their system should be upgraded. The staff were cool and unsympathetic to a couple with babies with regards to getting meals, waiting for a table and in general did not appear all that interested in providing the service . On the other hand there were a few excellent staff and they were rewarded for their service. Overall I wasn't impressed. We ended up walking to the Weston and having dinner in their signature Italian restaurant. We found an extreme shortage of reasonably priced breakfast places in the area and ended up a Java Jazz for a number of meals....great service....good prices and really interesting decor. The grocery store across the road provided cheap food and alcohol and prepacked meals....

All in all we were very happy with the holiday but would not stay there again. We would stay in a view apartment if ever there is a next time.

AMAZING! Great condo for families young and old!

Can't say enough how much we enjoyed our stay. Exactly how advertised! Especially loved the touches of beach toys, chairs, and boogie boards. While traveling with our teen and toddler, this condo was set up perfectly, including plastic cups and stepping stools for younger children and movies for the older. Also, one difference about your condo verses others, is the privacy the lanai has with the beautiful lush plants. Other condos, you are sitting on lanai watching all the people walk by, this one felt like we were the only ones at the resort. :-) Can't thank you enough Trevor! Also, Michelle was an absolute gem, extremely helpful and sweet in every way. Thank you again!

Wonderful place and comfortable. Well stocked kitchen. Very responsive owner.

Only minor issues/points which prevent a full five star rating. master bedroom tv did not work but was not a big deal for us. Owner was aware and probably replaced by the time this is written. Sofa sleeper is good for a light weight kid but may be uncomfortable for an adult. Luckily we had one of our sons sleep on it and he did not seem to mind. But mattress is thin and not very good as are most sleeper sofa mattresses.

Owner's Response: I take great pride in the little details that added together make for a wonderful vacation experience. The master bedroom TV proved to be tricky since the TV itself was fine but the cable worked for my on island representative and one guest but was inconsistent for the next guest. I finally called in another expert and got the matter resolved. At the same time, he installed a new high end Asus 1900AC gigabit dual band wireless router in the living room. Now we have faster and more reliable WIFI with greater range and can stream movies though any of the three DVD players to any of the three TVs. Also, I have carefully researched the issue of the sofa bed mattress and have ordered a replacement mattress that has a layer of memory foam on top of a firm layer of foam. It's quite substantial and heavy and arrived on Maui shrink wrapped. When the packaging is opened it will slowly inflate itself over several days. When I visit October 15-20 I will be installing it. I doubt it will be as comfortable as the wonderful beds in the bedrooms but the reviewers raved about it and I do not spare any expenses when it comes to the comfort of my guests so I want to come as close to perfection as possible with the sofa bed mattress. I try to seek out ways to improve my condo such as installing a keyed lock to the lanai door for secure access from the front or back, improving the WIFI, installing a garbage disposal, and now the upgraded sofa bed mattress. I always seek and respond to my guests' feedback. This is a top notch condominium home in a top notch resort and every detail of my guests' experience should reflect that I am seeking to make their vacations perfect. Mahalo, Trevor

A Wonderful Time in Paradise

Our family of five spent a wonderful week here at the beginning of August. I feel like we really lucked into a marvelous place. Initially, I chose this particular condo because I would be coming off a knee surgery shortly before we were scheduled to travel and wanted a ground floor unit. As it turned out, we got a beautiful, well-appointed, fantastically located unit owned by someone who really cares about his guests' experience.

The condo was exactly as advertised. Both the elevator to the parking garage and the pools are super-convenient, as are the Viking grills. The unit itself was lovely, with plenty of linens and a well-stocked kitchen. And we loved having breakfast out on the lanai.

Part way through our visit the dryer stopped working. Trevor went out of his way to make sure it was fixed ASAP, which we really appreciated.

We can't wait to go back!

Better off staying in Kapalua!

Aloha,

The carpet and furniture was heavily stained, needs deep cleaning.

Bring your own toilet paper and soap, there's limited stock in the unit.

The washer and dryer didn't work properly. The caretaker promptly respond to the service request, but the problem sustained.

Don't count on the resort staff assisting you with any needs, there's a limited staff.

Amenities were much better in tower one compared to Konea tower.

Expect your breakfast and lunch at Duke's to be for the birds! They'll be eating at your table. Once while I was eating, I dropped a small piece of bread, and a bird flew in and caught it in its beak before it even hit the ground. Don't worry the birds aren't meat eaters!

I recommend eating dinner at Merriman's at Kapalua and Lahaina Grille. Be warned, the price is about $200 for a family of four.

I got a crooked neck every night from the horrible pillows and lumpy mattresses.

At the beach, expect to bring your own umbrella for the blistering heat, and your own beach chair for the rocky sand, as the resort provides neither.

The ocean water was very warm, but the sand on the bottom was so rocky, I got cuts on my toes everyday.

Moving on to the caretaker, Michelle C.

She was strict but overall helpful in assuaging the overall bad experience. We were one out of 20 units that she was managing, and she would always tell you that as a way of saying: "I'm busy, don't bother me."

In the first few days of our stay, we were seriously considering leaving the resort to finish our vacation at a resort in Kapalua.

I was requested by the owner to submit nothing less than a five-star review, and only send our honest opinions to him via e-mail.

But I was set firmly against misleading the public.

I recommend similar priced alternatives at other resorts in the Kapalua area. Mahalo.

Owner's Response: I am very sorry that this guest was disappointed in his vacation experience. I am taking steps to address his concerns, although I wish he had given me an opportunity to do so before he departed. However, I have learned in life and in the hospitality business that there are people in this world who simply will not be pleased despite any and all efforts to please them - if they ever give you a meaningful opportunity to please them in the first place. I doubt there is anything any host or caretaker could do to please this man. This review is riddled with distortions, half truth, and outright falsehoods. For example, my bedding and pillows are of the highest quality. I provide Tommy Bahama beach chairs, a beach umbrella, boogie boards, snorkeling gear, and many more amenities with the goal of exceeding the expectations of guests who already know they are booking a stay at a resort rated as #3 in the entire state of Hawaii. The Konea tower has the resort's gym and spa, both of which are conveniently located on the ground floor with my condo. The other tower has the resort's convenience market and coffee shop, but I personally prefer to make the Maui blend coffee that I supply to guests.

Excellent Unit at a great family resort

We had a great time here at Honua Kai.

Resort has 3 great pools and Dukes serves drinks and pool side food.

Unit itself has very good kitchen, laundry facilities, bathrooms, lounge and bedrooms.

We rented a car for the week, and I think any family staying here would need due to its location.

There is so much to do at Honua Kai that you could have an amazing vacation without ever leaving the resort but we always rent a car so we can spend a day boogie boarding at Slaughterhouse Beach, a day shopping in Lahaina, maybe ride bikes down the Haleakala volcano. Since the parking garage elevator is right around the corner from our ground floor condo, its very convenient to take the beautiful drive 10 minutes up the coast for an incredible view at the happy hour at Merriman's in Kapalua. If you are a Costco member I highly recommend them for rental cars since they automatically apply all available discounts from 4-5 different rental companies so you can always find the best possible deal for a rental vehicle. For about $50 per day I have been able to rent minivans big enough for our family of 6, 6 carry on suitcases, and the food we buy for a week at Costco near the airport. Mahalo for your kind words. The Honua Kai Resort and Spa features an enormous 'aquatic playground' - an elaborate pool, multiple hot tub, pond and stream network with small secluded areas and protected paths that lead to the beach. Three separate pool areas, each offering a distinctly different experience. Hokulani's infinity-edged Formal Pool features terraced lounge seating facing the pool and ocean, and a large hot tub on each side. In front of Konea, the River Pool is a haven of peace and privacy, with two quiet zones and aqua lounges where you can put your chair in the water and relax. The middle pool is the family or 'Ohana' Pool, a very active, playful area with a water slide, waterfall, and a special area with a sandy beach for small children and parents. Several BBQ areas with Viking gas grills and 4 hot tubs are located thoughout the grounds.

2) Our unit is completely outfitted with beach towels, 4 Tommy Bahama beach chairs and beach umbrella, 4 quality Boogie Boards, 4 sets of snorkeling equipment (mask, snorkel, and fins), Sony combination music MP3 player dock/alarm clock, portable Bluetooth rechargeable stereo speaker system, cooler, barbecue utensils, in room washer and dryer (Bosch), in room safe, 3 DVD players (we have DVDs for all ages), 3 Flat screen TVs, pack n' play portable crib, Fisher Price portable high chair / booster seat, etc. I've added a keyed lock to the back door so you can leave securely from either the front or back doors. I've also added a garbage disposal in the sink which is a rare amenity.

3) Other amenities include: onsite ocean view dining and poolside food and drink service (Duke's Restaurant and Bar), onsite market (Aina Gourmet Market), onsite spa (on our floor), onsite gym (also on our floor), sandy beach, snorkeling, and whale watching.

4) If you can tear yourself away from the Honua Kai Resort itself (big 'IF'), Whaler's Village is a very nice shopping and dining experience about two miles South, and it is a great place to park to enjoy snorkeling and cliff jumping at Black Rock. There is validated parking and limited public beach access free parking, or it's a nice 30 minute walk on the ocean front boardwalk.

5) Lahaina's Front Street is 7 miles away and offers tons of shops, art galleries, restaurants, and is the site of Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice, our second favorite local dessert after the Hula Pie at Duke's (onsite at Honua Kai). We also love the Pacific O and Fleetwood's restaurants in Lahaina.

6) Another favorite Maui activity is downhill biking on the Haleakala dormant volcano. There are several companies that offer this and they are based in Paia and Haiku. When in Paia, enjoy some delicious pizza at Paia Flatbread Company, or have a bucket list meal at Mama's Fish House nearby (has been rated the #1 restaurant in the world). Paia is also the windsurfing and kiteboarding capital of the world and close by is Jaws (Pe'ahi), the world's most famous big wave tow-in surfing spot. If you are on Maui when the surf gets huge at Jaws, you can watch surfers challenge 50 foot waves which helicopters film them. If you have a telephoto camera you may be showing your friends pictures of waves literally 8 times taller than the surfers riding them. These are just a few of Maui's offerings. I'll also offer recommendations for dining and activities when you book your stay.
