About the property

2 Bedroom Oceanfront Villa In Exclusive K38 Club Marena

Club Marena really is the perfect place to stay when visiting Baja, and this is the best unit within Marena! . Just ten minutes south of the Rosarito Beach Hotel, this two-story villa is located in the best complex in Rosarito because of 1) it's protected location--no northern wind and south facing, so you get tons of warm sunshine and the marine layer of fog stays away, 2) of course its exclusive access to the best surf break in Baja, K-38, 3) it's very own private sandy beach, 4) luxurious and perfectly manicured grounds, 5) heated swimming pool, heated children's pool, and jacuzzi are all heated 24/7 (other condo regimes in the area do not heat their pools and the jacuzzis are heated upon request).

If you would like more information, want to see if we have any specials, or have any questions you want answered, please feel free to send me a message by clicking the "Ask Manager A Question" link on the right side of the page.

We just completed our renovation of our outdoor terrace and added a large wetbar, waterfall, and lounge area!

Surfing and paddleboarding are some of the most popular activities at Club Marena, but just lounging on the patio in a chaise lounge overlooking the ocean, palm trees, pools and lush gardens is quite entertaining, too! There are also tennis courts, a heated oceanfront pool, a jacuzzi that's always hot, lovely oceanfront paths, a private beach, a clubhouse with ping pong, darts, and pool tables, a large gated dog park, and plenty of exploring around the tide pools out front.

Those that live in Southern California will know that a thick marine layer can be present in the mornings of some months and can oftentimes last through the entire day. While this phenomenon is present throughout most of the west coast, Club Marena is unique in that it sits in a micro-climate. The marine layer makes a straight line across the bay from Calafia Point down to Primo Tapia. Club Marena is tucked inside this greater bay. The villas are also protected from the northerly winds by the Calafia point. What wind remains is further diffused by the towers so that our villa and grounds are left with a calm breeze, which is unique to coastal properties. The owners have lived and rented in all major complexes in the greater Rosarito area and have settled on this particular villa for its perfect weather.

The famous K-38 surf break is a 150-300m right point break into a protected bay (there is also a shorter 50-100m punchier left into the same bay). While more southerly facing, the location picks up all swell directions, including Southern swells from Antarctica/New Zealand in our summer and NW swells in our winter. The line-up is always minimal since the only feasible access point is only for those staying at Club Marena. The wind and marine layer (when present) always stay a half mile outside the line-up due to the protected nature of the greater bay that we are in. Conditions are usually glassy as there is also a kelp forest protecting the bay. The inside section is also great for younger groms to learn.

Situated on the small cove at Kilometer 38.5, the villas in Club Marena have long been one of the most sought after residences on the coveted coast of Descanso Bay just south of Rosarito.

2 bedrooms (California King in Master and queen in guest BR), 2.5 bathrooms, spacious oceanfront patio area, upstairs oceanfront terrace off the master bedroom, 3rd oceanfront deck with chaise lounges, and additional interior private garden patio.

*An assortment of surfboards, boogie boards, wetsuits, and beach chairs/toys available in the garage for your personal use - free!

*The beach is just a few steps off your patio. No elevators to worry about.

*There is a private garage connected to the villa with space for one car. Parking in the attached garage allows you easy access to bring in all your luggage, toys, and groceries, instead of lugging them through underground parking garages, stairs, and elevators as in the condos. Additional gated parking is available directly outside the villa's front door.

*High-Speed Internet is on and ready for use and is not shared with any other units to ensure you full streaming capability.

*All household amenities are available including a full kitchen ready for use (dishwasher, cookware, table settings, coffee maker, blender, microwave), washer/dryer, two flatscreen TVs in living room and master bedroom, plenty of fresh linens and towels, etc.

*In the area there are plenty of restaurants including some of the best just down the street and walking distance, like the K38 Taco Shop, Calypso, and Ollie's.

*The safe, gated community includes 24 hour security guards.

*Check In and Check Out is easy via lock-box and your manager is available via phone and email 24 hours a day.

Stay extra days to visit:

1. Guadalupe Valley, the wine region (ask about our recommended van/driver so you don't have to drive).

2. Ensenada, the port town with plenty of street side activities such as people watching, shopping, the famous Hussong's Cantina, and a harbour boat tour.

3. Golfing, surfing, paddleboarding, hiking, horse back riding--these are just a few of the many activities.

4. Shopping the arts and home improvement crafts of Rosarito and La Barca.

5. Ride an ATV on the local sand dunes.

This place is vacation ready. Just bring your family and friends and pick up some Coronas and tacos at the store just around the corner!

About Michaela

My husband and I manage our four homes and rental properties as our full-time job. That means that you have access to our help, knowledge base, expertise, and anything you may need 24/7. We both have all the apps loaded on our phones and laptops, so we will respond to any questions you may have immediately. A hotel has hundreds of other guests vying for the services, beauty, resources, and "exclusivity" of the property. A typical VRBO listing is just the home and no guidance, tips, networking, suggestions, etc. My husband and I provide the best of both worlds giving you amazing support, exclusivity, relaxation, and privacy.

Why Michaela chose Rosarito

We have lived and rented in all major complexes in the greater Rosarito area and have settled on this particular villa for its perfect weather. There are oftentimes colder winds when living directly oceanfront. The large Club Marena condo buildings block these winds from the villas, so while the condos can get cold and windy and only get direct morning sun (they're east facing), the villas stay warm with a slight breeze while they bask in the sun all day (we're south facing).

Our first full-time year was spent at Calafia. While they have gorgeous ocean views, they are directly on a point and get the most wind of anywhere in northern Baja. The common areas (gym, pool, jacuzzi, clubhouse, etc.) are so frigid that no guests nor owners can enjoy them (not to mention that they don't heat their pool and jacuzzi). There is no sandy beach and no place to enjoy the surf or boogie board.

The next year we lived at Gaviotas to try and move further south with somewhere to play in the waves and there were so many people, condos, and houses that it felt like a bustling city. Interior long roads with stop signs did not give off the relaxed Baja vibe we had been looking for. With a community of over 400 (large and densely populated) individual units crammed into a 500m area, there was no community space remaining for trees, grass, or any sense of natural beauty or nature. The small common pool area was always packed from such a densely populated community.

We were ready to leave Baja after 2 years and look elsewhere, but a friend told us about the villas at Club Marena. The day we visited was gorgeous, while a marine layer was hanging over the rest of Rosarito. Our friend explained that it wasn't chance, but that there was a true micro-climate due to our protected bay and the condo buildings. While we were skeptical, after 3 years of renting a villa at Club Marena, we just had to buy and make it permanent!

The Perfect Sunset

  • 5 of 5

My family and I were looking for the perfect New Years getaway and we found it at Club Marena. The property was in a great location, minutes from Rosarito in one direction and Puerto Nuevo in the other. When you were within the walls of Club Marena, you felt well protected by the friendly security staff and gardeners servicing the grounds. My children, ages 11 and 12, LOVED the heated pool and club house that featured two pool tables, ping pong and plenty of games....not to mention the stairs leading down to the beach that offered plenty of exploring during low tide. My husband and I loved the hot tub, which offered the perfect view of each night's sunset over the ocean.

The villa was also enjoyable....offering fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom, which we enjoyed in the cool evenings, snuggling with our kids in front of the fire while listening to the waves crash outside. Kitchen supplies are a bit sparse, so simple meals are best if you are planning to cook. We ended up eating lunch out almost every day so we were always too full in the evenings for much....they really know how to feed you in Baja!

Some of our favorite activities:

- Horse back riding in the nearby mountains with "All The Pretty Horses" animal rescue. Krystal, the owner, spent time introducing us to all of the rescue animals on the farm including dogs, cats, pigs, goats, fowl and horses. We got to feed all of the animals and spend time getting to know the horses we would be riding. It had been raining a bunch prior to our visit so the ride was muddy and wet (which made it tons of fun!) and Krystal and her guide made our entire family feel very safe even though we had little riding experience. (

- Eating lobster in Puerto Nuevo. It was fun having the different restaurants competing for our business as we strolled the main street, but we settled on a spot right on the water. The food (and margaritas) were delicious and there were plenty of street musicians to serenade. Be careful though....we all ended up not feeling that well after our dining adventure and we're pretty sure that the ice was NOT filtered in our drinks, even though we were told it was!

- Charly's Place. Our entire family loved Charly's Place for dining and watching football. Our kids swear they have the best burgers in all of Mexico, and the burritos and enchiladas weren't too shabby either!

This place has it all!

  • 5 of 5

This villa is perfect in every way. The views are much better than the pictures and you can see the endless ocean and waves from pretty much every room. We had two families with the parents sleeping in the two bedrooms and the kids on the inflatable mattress. Both beds were very comfortable and we all slept perfect, but that may have been due to the crashing waves lulling us to sleep. The kitchen was just remodeled and looks beautiful as the owners did a fantastic job decorating and picking out items and colors that blend in well with the surroundings. New doors, new carpets, and new paint also made us feel like royalty. The grounds have quite a few gardeners manicuring every detail and nothing is out of place. The kids had a great time playing all day in the pool while us adults enjoyed our Coronas in the hot tub. Did I mention that the pool and hot tub sit right on a cliff overlooking the Pacific and surf below? It was too good to be true and we will be coming back to Michaela's awesome beach pad.

Good security/good 3 days

  • 3 of 5

Nice to have a garage, good, wi-fi and security, beautiful views, good for 1 couple as only one master bedroom with view, other bedroom very noisy right next to the street. Needs updating, carpet, bathrooms, bedding and a professional cleaning staff. Nice enough owner easy to contact but wish I would have had a refund on the cleaning fee as the villa had some issues with the bedding, bathrooms and kitchen.I We could not get into the club house, the key would not work on the door. Security said our key would work but it did not.If a guest is paying a $300 security fee for damages, you might think repairs would be made to fix the things that are destroyed, like the kicked in 1/2 bath door on the first floor.makes me wonder.... why is the door kicked in from the inside? The heating unit looks as if it had not been maintained since the beginning of time and the door to the unit is in the master bedroom, but the door would not close properly.... With all that being said, I would go back back if only for the quiet and beautiful views, We did eat at most of the recommended restaurants, K38 surf taco shop. Tampanco. excellent latte, food and atmosphere. Splash, chili rellenos are awesome and good sunset view. There was also a place that served truffle garlic french fries, my brother loved them. I do not remember the name, more of the gourmet style menu.everyone was friendly and welcoming. We drove to El Salto and did the hike, that was great. No water at the waterfall but a true commune with nature none the less We were the only people there, they charge 30 pesos per person for parking. It is a lovely campground and they are building in the area. After the canyon hike we drove to La Mission beach and walked for miles on the wide desolate beach before driving back north to Puerto Nuevo for lobster at Oscars. Returning to the US via the Otay Mesa boarder crossing

Everything we could have hoped for and more!

  • 5 of 5

This property was super clean, and well maintained. The half bath downstairs was very convenient and the 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms up stairs fit our family perfectly. They had chairs, beach toys and anything we needed to enjoy ourselves. The neighbors were great and the community was so nice and quiet and felt VERY safe. The check in was super easy and all the directions were very detailed.... we had absolutely no problems finding the place. We would for sure stay there again and would recommend to any of our friends and family.
