This remote property is at the end of a 2 km, somewhat bumpy forest road, fronting a quiet ocean inlet. Enjoy tidal flats filled with oysters, bird life and clean ocean water. Two salmon runs can be seen in fall. The cottage is located at the edge of a garden clearing, 400' from the beach.
Inside the cottage you'll find a glass-fronted wood stove, hot water, shower, full kitchen, all rooms completely furnished. Linens, blankets, pillows and towels are provided .
Tap into our WiFi (medium speed) at the main house, if needed. Cell phone signal is available also at the main house, but it is weak. There is no TV.
Firewood for heat, and propane for cooking range, hot water and fridge.
Sleeps 4 max: Queen bed in bedroom, and a fold out hide-a-bed in front room.
Guests have access to the rest of the property and they can also use our canoe to paddle out into Desolation Sound.
How to find us: Drive north of Powell River on 101 Highway. After about 25 minutes, watch for a fire-station sign on the right, brown and red mailboxes on the left of a turn-off called 'Craig Rd'. (It is 2.5 km. from the highway to the cottage) The highway here swings to the left and Craig Rd swings slightly to the right. Turn off here and shortly you will turn right onto 'Plummer Creek Rd'. Pretty soon it turns from pavement into gravel, starts to go downhill and into the woods. (The road is a bit lumpy in spots but not soft, low riding sports cars are not advisable) You'll go down by an old sand pit with open gates on the sides, and then on down into thicker mature forest. Ignore all signs of 'closed road'. At the bottom, it levels out and swings left. In a few hundred yards there will be a fork, stay left and go up a rise. Then after a couple of turns, it opens up into a garden where you'll see 'Koppen - 9120'. Here is where you can park - just before the sign, there is a pull-over to the right.
Once here..... Since we make our own power, we need to be mindful of electricity consumption, and turn off lights and elec. devices when not in use.
The road from the highway 101 to the property is rough in some spots. A regular car can travel it, but must go very slowly. We recommend to stock up with groceries in Powell River. Bring a flashlight and solid shoes. If you bring dogs, please note: Only friendly dogs can be off leash. We have two friendly Leonbergers and there are dogs owned by neighbors. Close to our main house, please leash your dogs if they are not used to cats.
Powell River, a town of 18000 people and is 35min car ride from cottage. There is a movie theatre, gyms, restaurants, museums, galleries, shopping, golf and various activities. Hiking forest trails, all water sports, including excellent diving, are available. Powell River has been called a 'Cultural Capitol of Canada' for its promotion of the arts, such as choral competitions and festivals.
There are ferry services to and from Powell River, and a Transit Bus from Powell River to Lund, passing by our property access. Other than that, you will need a vehicle, bike or hiking boots.

About Jurgen Koppen
We, Cindy and I, are living in harmony with nature . Our location is back in the forest by the ocean in a big garden. As we are off the electrical grid we are generating our own power, using solar and micro hydro. We are artists and artisans, we build wooden kayaks and other boats, some furniture, breed Leonberger dogs, garden for food and flowers and play music. We travel sometimes to dog shows and to concerts. We love Dave Matthews Band and, as children of the 60's, we are rooted in that music. Our motto is a DMB quote: If kindness is you king, you will know heaven before you die.
Jurgen Koppen purchased this Cottage in 1994

Quiet hideaway in the woods
We came to the sunshine coast to visit family living in Townsite and stayed at Jurgen and Cindy's amazing little cabin! Originally we chose it because it was dog friendly but we were so happy to find how cute and perfect it was! The road is quite bumpy on the way in (we have a small ford fiesta, it made it just fine but we were a little rattled) - ideally we would've just come with all our groceries and never left! It was peaceful in the rain, and close to the beach for a walk and to see 10+ eagles flying around the inlet. The sunshine coast trail cuts through the road in so it would be a great place to start a hike! I had not realized (until I saw the solar panels) that this cabin is truly off the grid. The cabin was a great place to relax and recharge by the fire (which was thankfully already going when we arrived!) as well as a reminder to be more mindful about our energy usage/habits at home. We would love to come back in the summer and hide away again.
Sunshine Coast in a Nutshell
Clean, cute cabin, tucked away in the beauty that surrounds it. Perfect if you want to feel like you've left the city and experience the wonders of the Sunshine Coast.
Unique Cottage Experience
We had a great time in the area and getting to know our hosts. Jurgen and Cindy were very kind and gracious. The property was one of a kind. I would recommend this stay.
Remote, romantic, beautiful surroundings, friendly hosts, good Equipment
The area around the Okeover Arm is beautiful, very remote cabin. We were well informed by Jürgen about the bumpy road to reach the cabin, so we took everything with us. We enjoyed the chats with Cindy and Jürgen, the canoe trip, Swimming in the Arm and the quiet atmosphere. We could cook easily, everything was there. We loved the dogs and their bear protection while hiking😉
Wonderful. Peaceful. Lovely getaway
Wonderful. Peaceful. Lovely getaway
Beautiful fairytale cottage, crafted by genius and love.
We took the canoe through the pearful inlet. We hiked through the moss covered woods. We sat by the fire whilst the frogs sang. Jorgen and cindy were warm and laid back. Their of the grid set up had my dreaming of a different life then my own. We loved every minute of our stay. Highly suggest to the outdoor lovers.
There are two salmon runs in our Toquenatch Creek, October and November every year.
