Location, location, location! My house is on Court Street, the main street in Fayetteville, and within walking distance of many great restaurants, bicycle rental shops, climbing guide service, outfitter shops, town park and it's many trails, antique shops, Ben Franklin's, (yes, we have a Ben Franklin's) and the New River Gorge bridge. AND on Saturday mornings the farmers market is right across the street. Sometimes there's live music on Saturday mornings and evenings in the tiny park across the street.

Built in 1900, and Updated through the years the house retains it's charm and character. There are two bedrooms on the second floor. A bath with shower is adjacent to one bedroom that has a queen and a trundle bed. In the other bedroom upstairs there is a queen bed and a bath with shower. Bedrooms on the second floor are air conditioned and have ceiling fans for the summers and individually controlled base board heat for winter visits. A large first floor bedroom and full bath has a king bed and a day bed.

The front porch is covered, and a rock garden surrounds the deck in the back yard. The deck is private and perfect for gathering in the evenings, relaxing with a book or sunbathing.

About Valerie Ritter owner, manager

Hard to believe its been 30 years since my first white water raft trip in WV. Something grabbed hold of me that day on the river. Eight people in a rubber boat, responding to the commands of our guide Otti, so named after having spent an inordinate amount of time on Otter rock. Everybody has a nickname on the river, usually something that derives from a memorable event or behavior and one that might rather be forgotten. Anyway between the colorful characters, the extraordinary beauty of the New River Gorge and the excitement of the white water I was hooked.

The next year I sold my condo and quit my job in Cincinnati and moved to WV to become a river guide. I had not intended to stay so long but after a while I couldn't seem to leave, didn't want to. I stayed. To support myself in WV I have sold Christmas trees in Florida, driven a delivery truck for UPS during the holiday season, remodeled houses and for ten years I had my own business.

I opened Garvey House in 1986, one of only a few bed and breakfast inns in West Virginia at the time. During those ten years I was privileged to welcome many adventurous travelers to my inn, some of whom have become lifelong friends.

Since then I have been camp cook, riverboat cook, sea kayak guide in Alaska and caretaker at a remote and primitive lodge in there.

I am always happy to be back in West Virginia and I am excited to invite you to enjoy my home on your next visit to our beautiful town, Fayetteville, in the mountains of West Virginia.

Maybe you wonder if I ever earned a nick name on the river? Well, of course I did.

We had a wonderful time while in Fayetteville. The house was located right in the middle of town and was accessible to many sites and restaurants. Valerie, our house contact, was wonderful and was available whenever we needed her. I would recommend using VRBO to anyone wanting to rent a home away from home.

Great spot in Fayetteville as a home base for Adventures.

  • 4 of 5

The house has everything you need to have a fun stay in Fayetteville and the surrounding area. 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths was nice and assured our group had privacy when needed.

Val was a pleasure to work with and was ready to answer any questions or help out with the house.

The only thing keeping it from 5 stars for me is that it is right on HWY 16 and was noisy with the windows open at night when sleeping. It was warm and you hear every car/truck that passes down the street. Val did say she was installing AC units, so this may not be an issue for future travelers.

Other than AC, no issues and it was a great place to call home for the 6 days we were in Fayetteville.

Lovely historic home right on the main street into town. Walking distance to shops and dining options and just a short drive to all of the hiking, biking, and other adventures. Owner was very easy to work with from booking to checking out. A very beautiful area and the people we encountered around town were very welcoming. Nice and relaxing.
