You deserve the comfort of a 5-bedroom home within walking distance from town. You deserve one of the largest porches on Kelleys Island with a beautiful lakefront view.
The Old Nest has been in our family for over 100 years and we welcome our guests to share in our piece of heaven. When staying at The Old Nest, you have access to several nature trails on a private 9-acre estate as well as the convenience of being close to town and the Kelleys Island Ferry.
Resting on lakefront property, The Old Nest offers it's own waterfront access, exclusive of public beaches. To enjoy your vacation contact:
This is a wonderful house to rent and a great location on the island! The view off the front porch is stunning, we enjoyed the sunsets every night. This is a wonderful place to stay with family, we even were able to bring our dog for the trip. If you are a picky cook, I'd advise you to bring your own pans, because the kitchen had plenty of sauce pots, but nothing in the way of a fry pan. Or, do as we did, and walk over to the center of town, less than a quarter mile away, and dine at one of the restaurants.
Our stay was a decent one but we have serious concerns against the property owner/manager, our security deposit was withheld for a broken front door - who would want to break into the house after paying the full amount upfront!
Despite of asking for special instructions for check-in none was provided (snapshot of the conversation is available ). When we arrived at the house we spent about 20 mins trying to figure out how to get in, while doing so the front door (a rusted netted door) just popped out.
We later found out that the only door that was left open was one of the few back doors, not sure how they expected us to about it.
Though we booked the house for 2 nights we stayed only for 1 night. No instructions were provided until the second day of check in. This is not the first time we have rented a vacation home so we do know how to stay in one!
I have bought this to the notice of homeaway.com and hence sharing my experience.
We had a lovely stay at this home. It's in a great location, but we most enjoyed the grandiose porch and fabulous view!
Old nice home. Nice people. Great view. Just a few minor things so all would feel a little more comfy-Maybe fix the lower level bathroom door so it closes properly! Not much for privacy. We had to use garbage can to keep it somewhat closed. The 2 lower level bedrooms have no wall between them just louver doors. This may be to keep with the history of the house but if you are not comfortable with the people you are staying with then that will be a problem. You hear everything. Could use some paint & touch ups along with a good clean but otherwise nice time. Its a rental so If you like the view then its great. Thank you!!!
We had 6 adults here for a birthday weekend. The house was older but nice and cozy. The downstairs was not air conditioned but the 2 (and a half?) bedrooms upstairs had window air conditioners. The breeze off the water was perfect for sleeping - for me, at least, my husband was a bit hot. There are 2 connecting bedrooms downstairs. Everyone said they slept good! The 2 bathrooms (one upstairs and one downstairs) were decent size and clean. The time we spent at the house was mostly spent on the front porch enjoying the water views from the gliders. Yes, there are bugs as other reviews mentioned. I live in the country so this didn't really bother me so much but I could see how others would be bothered. You are on the lake and have open windows and doors. The only complaint abt the house was that the coffee maker wasn't cleaned out from the previous renters. I just cleaned it before we used it (and before we left). The refrigerator wasn't either. Wasn't sure if we were to throw the stuff out or leave it so we left it. Other than that everything was fine.
Great location - very close to downtown - def within walking distance to the shops and restaurants and ferry's/boat ramps of downtown. We rented a golf cart and rode around the island. Very pretty sunset from the pier over by the Glacier Grooves and beach area. The quarry had the bluest water, Caribbean almost.
Headed to Put-In-Bay for a day. Easy trip there and back.
The wings and pizza at the Caddyshack were good. Ice-cream from the trailer across from Bag The Moon was really good too.
Initially had some email issues trying to connect with Amanda but finally got squared away. She was very accommodating and pleasant. Would definitely recommend staying here and I'd stay here again.
The map on Homeaway had the house down by the Brewery but it's not marked in the right location (or the Brewery isn't marked right). It's barely a quarter mile from downtown and the Jet Express ramp.
We have been coming to Kelleys Island for about 20 years. We've stayed in Marblehead and on the island. The Old Nest is THE BEST PLACE we have stayed. We loved it so much that we booked next year's trip BEFORE we left! We even have a friend who owns a place there, and we like The Old Nest better. We loved the old family feeling you get when you walk in, the photos and original charm of the place are terrific. It's so spacious and comfortable, the ten of us never felt crowded. The owners are great to work with, and the fact that there are so many amenities included, such as towels, paper products, cooking utensils, etc made our stay the best one in 20 years. It's close to downtown and a simple walk to everything. You need a cart to get to The West Bay and maybe The KI Winery (you could walk to the winery if you're a walker and the weather permits), but other than that everything else is close! The front porch and the huge sitting room inside make it easy for everyone to have fun while sitting around either inside or outside. One bedroom is small for two adults and the trundle bed needs some attention, but we made it work for us. We can't wait for our trip next year and especially our stay at The Old Nest. Thank you so much for sharing your old family home with all of us!
