An unexpected place to stay. We thought we were staying right on the ocean but did not even have a view from the location. Everything was very overgrown and needs some work. The cottage itself was very nice and clean. No complaints about the rooms or anything like that.
We had the king suite and it was very nice! All very modern and up to date. The owners were very friendly. Breakfast was delicious and more than we could eat!
Imagine visiting the gabled house that inspired the setting of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic story of the red-haired orphan. It's here! Green Gables Heritage Place is located in Prince Edward Island National Park, on the north shore. Allow lots of time to explore the house and grounds, including the Haunted Woods and Lovers' Lane. There are interpretive programs and films on L.M. Montgomery, along with gift shops and a snack counter.
While you're here, don’t miss the Site of L.M. Montgomery's Cavendish Home, where relatives of the author, John and Jennie Macneill, still reside and offer guided tours of the grounds. Visitors also have the opportunity to purchase books from their bookstore.
Avonlea Village has recreated the type of rural community where Anne lived. Listen to music, enjoy wagon rides, visit the candy shop, stroll through heritage buildings, and chat with animators in period dress. It's like stepping right into the story!
Keep your eyes peeled all over the Cavendish area, as Anne and Diana are often seen greeting tourists and performing small vignettes.
In early July, the L.M. Montgomery Festival is in full swing with special events that are tied to the author and her most famous fictional character.
