Overview

About the property

Elegant and artistic 2nd home with three levels of living and garden spaces. Luxurious

3 bedroom, 3 bath professionally designed and managed. The large well appointed

kitchen will tempt the inner chef in you while your guests enjoy the dining room hosting

a gallery of the owners favorite artists. In the spacious living room there is a Baldwin

baby grand piano, flat screen tv, carved stone fireplace and views to the garden, fountain

and lap pool. In the principle garden a beautiful covered sitting area with fireplace is the

perfect spot to sit watching hummingbirds. Pick fresh produce from the raised herb

garden enjoying the luscious tropical ambiance with volcano view. Additionally, on the

ground floor just off the lap pool you can use the personal gym with rowing and elliptical

machines or relax and detox in the infrared sauna.

Climbing the floating geometric staircase (Barragon inspired) are three lovely bedrooms,

the master has a glorious marble bathroom, the two smaller bedrooms share a well

appointed modern bath. All rooms are outfitted with queen size beds, closets and reading

nooks. An outside terrace that overlooks the property and volcanoes connects the

bedrooms.

The third floor has an infinity Jacuzzi where you can sit and watch Fuego (fire) volcano

erupt, or the fire works displays during the holiday seasons. A wooden deck provides a

perfect place for yoga and the large built in sitting area is ideal for a rooftop BBQ with

friends or a glass of wine at sunset.

We own a beautiful 1/8th Geoffory Cat that is an in-door out-door cat named Maraca. She loves people and she may come and visit you every once in a while. She is not allowed in the bedrooms, for she lives primarily in another designated area of the house with the caretakers.

Stunning in every way!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely home feels like our favorite hotel, Meson Panza Verde! Owners are the same and every detail is complete. Our stay was absolutely perfect. Maria, Pedro, and Luis, staff at the house, are sweet, hard working, and helpful in every way. They do not speak English, but communication was not a problem. Kendra is attentive, available and helpful. Words cannot describe how wonderful the design of this house is. We especially loved the gourmet kitchen, the outdoor sitting areas, garden, living room, and each of the three bedrooms. Caoba Farm is right down the street, with fresh, organic vegetables and a store with everything we needed. Maria cooked a Guatemalan soup for us one evening when we entertained friends. It was delicious! Thank you, from the bottoms of our hearts, for such a relaxing time in a stunning and charming house. We will be back!!

We had a fantastic time at this beautiful home. Great location if you don't mind a short taxi into town. Quite neighborhood. Excellent staff and management.

Peace and Tranquility in Antigua!!

  • 5 of 5

This house is stunning! Kendra was a joy to work with throughout the booking and while we were there. She responds very quickly to everything which we appreciated. Maria, Luis and Pedro were very kind, very helpful and always accessible. Shame on us that we speak such minimal Spanish that we couldn't visit with them more. The house is a 3km walk to town, a very easy walk and we did it every day - may as well get some exercise to balance out wine in the hot tub during our daily happy hour.

When we first arrived I was a little worried that we were too far out of town but after spending every day in the town, it was a true pleasure to come home to tranquility and the sounds of crickets to lull you to sleep. We even heard the volcano lightly erupting a few times.

My only wish as was noted by a previous guest was that the pool was heated. We didn't use the pool once - the sun just doesn't heat it up enough to be able to enjoy which is too bad because it is beautiful! The house is also beautifully decorated. The master suite is very comfortable and the other guest rooms looked very comfortable as well. The garden area is stunning as well! We looked forward to returning to paradise every night after a long day of walking. The fresh flowers on arrival were a nice touch!!

You are provided with a cell phone with all contacts you will need already pre-programmed which is very helpful. I would return to Casa Hunab if we come back to Antigua. Thanks for sharing your home!

Beautiful Home in a Beautiful City

  • 5 of 5

The house is very spacious and absolutely beautiful. Communication with information about the trip was timely and helpful. The kitchen was well stocked and Maria provided us with great breakfast. Luis and Pedro were wonderful. They provided everything we needed, no matter when it was requested. Great directions, helpful hints about the area, and even flashlights when the neighborhood had a 5 minute power outage. I can't say enough about the staff, they were top notch.

The home itself is incredible. Two living levels with roof top deck and hot tube overlooking the volcano. Very tranquil. The lower level has large windows overlooking the beautifully kept yard and lap pool. The house is well decorated with antiques from around the world. The entire home is really quite stunning.

The master suite is large and comfortable and the other two bedrooms are well laid out and comfortable as well. The experience was spot-on and i would highly recommend Casa Hunab to anyone traveling to Antigua.

Beautiful Home But With Caveats

  • 4 of 5

We rented the house for eleven nights over Christmas and New Year’s. The house is beautiful and tastefully decorated, having a master bedroom/bath and two smaller bedrooms which share a bath. It was very comfortable sitting in the garden or lounging in the living room. We did not do much cooking ourselves, choosing to go out for most meals. We did have the maid prepare black beans and fried platanos which were excellent. She also did laundry several times for us. The rooftop Jacuzzi was enjoyable but the lap pool was too cold to swim in. We were told that it had solar heating and was warmer in the afternoon but we never detected a noticeable difference, even after five straight days of sun (days averaged 80 degrees F).

There were several other things lacking. There was no complimentary fruit basket, nor were the complimentary breakfast items provided (this was clarified in the guest book as being complementary only on the first day). Upon arrival, we were told that the property manager, Kendra, would be there shortly. However, she did not show up and we didn’t hear from her until our third day there. The landline telephone didn’t work, nor was a working cell phone available. We brought this to Kendra’s attention, on the third day, but neither was ever fixed. Interestingly, the on site gardener/security man had a working landline phone and we occasionally heard a phone ringing in a locked office upstairs. We also asked the gardener/security man to replace burnt out light bulbs in the master shower and closet; his response was that he didn’t have any.

The in-room safe was not bolted down, making it easy for someone to just carry the whole thing away, although we felt that the house was very secure with only the maid and the gardener/security man on the premises. The guest book references a car service provided to and from town but this was not available. The house is walking distance to town or a tuk tuk (similar to a golf cart) can be hired for about Q25. A taxi, recommended at night, can be hired for about Q50. The gardener/security man can call a tuk tuk or taxi for you. Note that neither the maid nor gardener/security man speaks English, although you could call the property manager to translate. Fortunately, we could converse in Spanish. In summary, a beautiful house but not well managed.

Owner's Response: Dear Carmen Martin, Thank you for your review, once again I am very sorry that you felt that there were things lacking in regards to the management of the house. We do serve a complimentary breakfast for the first night, that includes yogurt, fruit, and granola. There may have been some misunderstanding because you requested the refrigerator to be stalked with food before you arrived, which it was. As I mentioned before, my sincere apology for not being present upon your arrival on Christmas eve as I told you, I was with my family. The following evening I introduced my self on December 25th. I hope that you enjoyed all of the tours and transportations we arranged for you and the many dinners at Panza Verde with a discount. The land telephone was unfortunate, and part of the difficulties of being in a third world country however it is now fixed, so thank you again for your feedback. The car service was explained in previous conversations that it is provided at an additional cost. We hope that this experience does not deter you from visiting us again in the near future. We hope that you will give us another opportunity to host you in your next visit to Antigua Guatemala. Kind Regards Kendra McLaughlin
