About Brenda Lees

My husband and I (married 32 years) and our two daughters, have always enjoyed the outdoors. We dreamed of owning a cabin where we could enjoy our family and our horses. We are both native Tennesseans and put down roots in Middle TN to raise our kids. My passion is equine rescue, and I spend most of my spare time trying to make a difference and educate people on animal welfare. We currently have several equine rescues, as well as several dogs n cats!

Brenda Lees purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Brenda Lees chose Big South Fork Recreational Area

Our familly spent the last several years going to different destinations to hit the trails. In 2010 we decided to stay in the GRITS cabin and explore the Big South area. We found ourselves going back to this area, and when the cabin went up for sale, we made the decision we had to have this piece of paradise!

What makes this cabin unique

GRITS (Girls Raised in the South), is such a great location to enjoy the BSF. Ride from the barn right onto the trailhead, and miles of trails. We love sitting in the hot tub and building a fire when the season turns cool. Sitting on the screened in porch and listening to the bullfrogs and the crickets makes the work week a memory.

My wife and I did not want to leave this cabin. Its very well decorated and well stocked. We loved having coffee on the screened in deck in the morning and watching the deer from the deck before it got dark at night. I dont think our dog wanted to leave either. Since we are atv riders it was nice to have a short drive to brimestone but it would be perfect for people with horses. Cant wait to be able to rent it again. Thanks

GRITS cabin.

We had a great time. The cabin is awesome. The bedroom and bathroom accommodations are wonderful for a large number of people. The out door spaces make it easy to spread out and enjoy Mother Nature. As always the horse trails are great fun to ride.

A lovely and cozy cabin in gorgeous place.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was comfortable and beautifully decorated. Our party really enjoyed the western themed decor. The kitchen had plenty of cooking supplies for family meals. The outdoor areas were wonderful, overlooking the woods and with a large wooded deck, chairs, picnic table, and a big stone fireplace and a bin full of split wood. There is plenty of room to store coolers and muddy boots on the covered front and back porches (store food on the back porch, where it is safe from bears!) The hiking in Big South Fork is fabulous. Our family hiked all day both full days we were there. All in all it was a perfect family getaway. I hope we will return soon.

Amazing cabin! Wonderful spot!!!

  • 5 of 5

My little group and I came up for our visit in December. We arrived to find the cabin very clean and well-provisioned. There was firewood immediately available, the place was toasty... and the hot tub was very clean and ready to go! The beds were super comfortable, and there were plenty of extra blankets & such. The kitchen had plenty of space and everything we needed. Internet was pretty fast compared to past cabins we've been to. The TV's worked great (although we did bring a Chromecast, primarily for music streaming). The TV on the deck was also a very nice touch. They had both a smoker down on the patio, and a and new gas grill on the front porch, which was very useful for all the grilling we did. The hosts were outstanding at making the place feel very cozy and welcoming. It was very nicely decorated for the holidays, and there were plenty of great reference/guides to assist us in planning out our hiking, riding, and kayaking. It was an awesome trip! Beautiful countryside! Also loved that we were far enough away from the nearest neighbors so as not to worry about disturbing them, and vice versa.

Thank you so much to the hosts!!! Hope we get to experience this place again sometime!!!

Well-appointed, comfortable cabin in Oneida

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our annual cabin trip at GRITS this year. We loved the big decks and porches, the outdoor fireplace, and the lowered hot tub on the screened back porch! Plenty of parking and secluded from other cabins in the area so we could be outside without worrying about bothering any neighbors. Close to amazing hiking in Big South Fork. 3 bedrooms, plus two twins in the loft. Bunkhouse in the stable adds two twins, but no bathroom. A little tight for 12 adults if you have more than 3 couples. The most welcoming experience I've had yet from a cabin, including a nice card and bottle of wine. Our stay deserved nothing less than 5 stars, I'd recommend GRITS to friends.
