About Mark Tourtellotte

Gail and Mark retired to Tobago after visiting on their honeymoon. After completing their own house construction, the villa next door became available for purchase and renovation. Gail's interior design skills and Mark's furniture making have combined to create a lovely accommodation.

Mark Tourtellotte purchased this house in 2014

Why Mark Tourtellotte chose Trinidad & Tobago

We lived in the Lookout while building our home next door, so we knew it well and saw the potential to make it a special place high in the forest above Charlotteville.

What makes this house unique

The view is simply stunning...quiet and private, too!

Excellent in every way!!

  • 5 of 5

I don't think words could express the impression that the people and island left on our lives. It was wonderful!!! When I first signed up I had wonder what I was getting for the money if there were no maids, food servers or shopping....What we found was the most wonderful memory the one could ever have.

Most people will only see these spectacular views on TV. We did live the dream!

Our favorite part about the trip was the friendly people that made us feel welcome and to just enjoy ourselves. Do I need to mention the food, wind surfing, kayaking, the walks around the beautiful beaches, the crabs, lizards, birds and the wonderful view of the sunrise that got us up each morning? Breathtaking!!!

Our kids got to experience the outdoor and the wonderful natural way of Tobago life.

We booked directly through VRBO fast and direct response from the owner. Mark and Gail provided us with excellent service and made our stay at The Charlottesville Lookout pleasurable.

We were a party of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids) (loud kids). And we didn't even have one hiccup or complaint.

I would definitely stay at The Charlottesville Lookout again and also HIGHLY recommend this villa to anyone that visits Tobago.

Best Place

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed a week of perfect vacation in the house of Gail and Mark in March 2015. Property is located in a quite and safe neighborhood within an easy 1.5 hour drive from the airport; driving on the left side is not that difficult. We could hear only parrots and remote surf around the house, no traffic and aircrafts . Parking is very convenient (a rare feature in the mountainous parts of Tobago). Flagstaff Hill Road runs amidst tropical forest and boasts spectacular views of the Pirate Bay and the panorama opening from the terrace is beyond description. House and premises including tropical gardens were meticulously maintained. Rooms in our apartment (upstairs) were tastefully furnished and very neat. Kitchen area was supplied with necessary appliances, all functional. WiFi worked quite well, especially bearing in mind tropical climate; there was gear for snorkeling, binocular for observation of birds and a good choice of literature about Tobago island. Surprisingly, we did not notice any mosquitoes. In the morning turkey-like birds made loud sounds that was actually nice. This was a rare case when we enjoyed staying in the house no less than spending time outdoors. A good swimming beach is ~5 min drive under the house, near a quite decent local restaurant. The famous Pirate Bay Beach is a 10 min walk (or a short swim over a coral reef) from the parking in the nearby village of Charlotteville. Fresh fish and fruits are sold in the front street. A system of nature trails begins across the road from the house. We would definitely highly recommend this vacation rental.

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

This house and its location is a real gem. It´s perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy nature, beautiful beaches, colorful birds and a relaxing time. The house itself is very well equipped, beautifully furnished and the views are to die for. Gail and Mark, the owners, are incredibly welcoming and helpful.

During our stay we visited some different beaches but we liked Pirate´s bay and Englishman´s bay the best. Both of them were perfect for swimming and snorkeling. One day we took the car to the other end of the island to Pigeon Point, which was very nice because it gave us the opportunity to see the more touristic part of the island. After that visit it felt great to return to the tranquility of the Lookout and its surroundings.

So if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in a wonderful climate away from the buzz, this is the place to go.

Perfect authentic holiday!

  • 5 of 5

This property itself is beautiful, with a fantastic terrace overlooking the Pirate Bay and the rain forrest full of colibri birds and parrots. Palmer, bamboo and fruit trees, along with the stunning view make this place a real nature experience beyond the usual. If you are seeking an authentic holiday experience then this is the place to go. Very nice to take a day trip to the southern part of the island, with many tourists, but incredibly delicious retreat in this amazing house and experience the tranquility and natural feeling. Our meeting with the house owner and his wife were unique. The hospitality was the best. We are very pleased with our stay in Tobago and all expectations were being met. We can warmly recommend this place for other adventurous people, hungry for distinctive destinations.

PARADISE

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the most wonderful stay in this home. The house was clean and comfortable with all the necessities for easy living. The views were incredible! We got to enjoy bird watching, hiking, snorkeling, and a lot of much needed peaceful rest, in this beautiful house. The near by beach at Pirate's Bay was the perfect place to see underwater wildlife, snorkeling here is a must! Perfect place to honeymoon!
