Amazing property, second to none service from the property manager!!
This is one of the best properties in the area. Cozy cabin with all the amenities. Enjoy the hot tub looking over the scenic river or entertain from the sprawling deck on upper level. To top it off this property comes with one of the most responsive managers in the business. Anything you need to make your stay more comfortable will be accommodated. A family member left/lost his phone and he found it and overnighted to us immediately. This is the guy you want to do business with in the area. Check out Knutson property services online as he has many to choose from.
Lovely cabin with a fantastic view
This cabin sits high up on a hill and offers a stunning view of the Mississippi. The beautiful wooded area around it offers privacy and lovely green scenery. I really enjoyed listening to the birds in the morning and crickets at night on the huge wraparound porch. The lower deck offers a hot tub which was a great added bonus to the cabin. Hanging in the hot tub was very relaxing! The interior of the cabin is clean, open, and the abundant natural light that comes in makes it a joyful space to be in.
The town it's in offers some fun places to hang out like the Wooden Nickel. There's also a cute pottery place in town and Lansing IA is right across the bridge if you're looking for more food options than what the town has to offer!
Only downside is that the beds were a bit uncomfortable and the owners of the cabin maybe have a pet because there were dog hairs throughout the cabin. Because of the beds, sleeping wasn't as relaxing as I would have liked it to be. This however, would not discourage me from coming back to this cabin because it was a fantastic experience overall!
Great New Year's Getaway...
A buddy of mine and I have taken our teenage girls/friends for New Years the past few years to different places. This one caught my eye from the view and it didn't disappoint! The cabin was also very spacious and allowed everyone enough room to spread out and enjoy our few days stay. The girls especially enjoyed the hot tub on the bottom deck! We also had a great time sledding/snowboarding down the hill in the back! A couple of opportunities exist as well. The cabin is advertised to sleep 8 when it only sleeps 6. There is enough room to have a pullout couch or even just a couple hideaway beds that can be pulled out into the downstairs bar area? The other opportunity is to have more than local TV available. I realize this is a small thing, but when there are College football games on each day, it would be nice to watch some of them. I was able to travel down to town and watch at the Swing Inn. It was filled with all local people that welcomed the "Chicago guy" with open arms.
We also were able to take a ride across the river to Lansing to get some groceries that only took 10 minutes.
Overall, it was a great time for all and we are talking about coming back next year! (Good to know the new bedding will have arrived by then.)
COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER
I stayed with two other girlfriends and three kids ages 9, 8 and 6. Had a great time and view was outstanding. One of the reasons we rented this place was the huge fireplace! We were all excited for a warm crackling fire to sit beside on a very dreary weekend. Well, fireplace is gas (which I understand for insurance reasons) and it did not kick out much heat (not sure if there was a blower switch I may have missed). The real disappointment was in the bed, bedding and pillows. If they would invest in some decent bedding & pillows at least (maybe a couple hundred $'s for all 3 bedrooms) the place would be soooo much better. It's hard to have a great trip when you do not get a good nights rest! The pillows are as flat as a pancake and the bedding seems to be from 25 years ago. They could also use some bigger fry pans and a skillet. I would have given all five stars except for these few things.
Thank you for your feed back and posting the review on VRBO. We take great pride in our cabin and try very hard to make each guests vacation exceptional, it is very important for us to follow through with any issues that our guests may experience during there much needed time away. After receiving your Review, we have ordered new comforters, pillows, pots and pans. As for the Fireplace there is a blower switch directly below that can be simply turned counter clock wise. We apologize you had issues locating it and I will make note to make a sign for future guests.
Again, thank you for your Review,
Excellent Setting with Amazing Views
Our family (5 in all) stayed here in October and had a wonderful time. The cabin is fully furnished including all the kitchen supplies (dishes/pots/pans/etc.) and has enough room for our kids to spread out and enjoy the house without tripping over each other. We grilled out two nights at the cabin and ate in Lansing for the other - you can see the bridge and city lights across the river from the cabin. The views are breathtaking, the cabin is gorgeous inside and out (no roughing it here!!!!) and it is a great place to unplug and unwind. We spent one day touring Gays Mills in search of the perfect apple and another enjoying a fall festival in McGregor. We are already looking forward to a winter excursion here to enjoy the hot tub while watching it snow!
This area is known for the beautiful drives around our country roads, wildlife and fishing and hunting.
