The weather was beautiful, the cabin was cozy and clean, the animals were entertaining and our host Beth was gracious and helpful. We enjoyed a hike at the nearby Colorado Bend State Park, a dip in stock tank pool and a walk on the ranch property. It was a perfect weekend getaway!
The cabin was neat and clean. The property is so peaceful. The pool was a nice surprise. Landowners. gave us our privacy for a romantic getaway. We look forward to returning to the ranch.
This property is everything described. Comfortable, clean accommodations that are more spacious than pictures show. We enjoyed being off the beaten path and relaxing outside on the porch and by the pool. The animals were always interested in what we were doing but were easily shooed away if they got too close to our breakfast ;) If you like being outdoors and away from it all, this is the place for you. No TV or Wifi was totally fine for us and our young kids (3 and 6). We had sunny weather but there are toys and games for kids if you needed that and didn't bring any.
We drove to Colorado Bend State Park and hiked the .4 mi to Spicewood Springs with the kids in the heat and we were fine. If you go, make sure you have gas (the stations are few and far between) and plenty of water and snacks. We also visited Fiesta Winery -- a great little find with very friendly people. We only drove through San Saba but it looked quaint and we wished we had made some time to visit but were only at the cabin for two nights. Just the drive up to the ranch is scenic and the rural landscape so different from our hometown in Central Florida.
Beth is a gracious hostess and eager to share her knowledge about the land. The ranch has been in her family for generations and the stories she had were terrific. She took us all out for a drive around the ranch and the photos we captured were amazing.
This place is a little slice of heaven. It was the most peaceful and serene vacation I have ever been on. I will most definitely be back. Loved the animals. Well worth the money!!!
The pictures do not do the property justice! Absolutely beautiful property and cabin! From the initial reservation to check out, our experience was phenomenal! Beth was quick to respond to our reservation and she really went above and beyond. The little things like a vase of beautiful picked wild flowers on the back porch, to a late afternoon guided tour of the property, providing dolls and games for our daughter, I mean Beth was the hostesses for the mostest. Her passion for preservation of prairie land, knowledge of the land's incredible history and willingness to share her heritage and home with us was awesome!
The cabin provided us with a much needed disconnect from our hectic lives. It was clean and cared for perfect accommodations for our family of 4, which includes a 120lb fur baby. We made some amazing memories!!! We brought our water shoes (highly recommend) and fishing poles and spent hours in the Creek! It is Texas and it is HOT so this was a great way to be outside and stay cool. The last day we had become fairly comfortable with the Creek and got brave, we wandered past our previous explorations and WOW!!! We spent the next 2 hours catching fish as fast as we could get our lines back in the water. We couldn't keep up so our 8 year old decided she needed to be able to take her own fish off because she was tired of waiting on us! Which as a parent was an awesome moment, she can now take fish off the hook! We each caught a nice size bass or two and many many sunfish! They are so fun to catch especially for kids! We also fished at the tank which was also a successful fishing adventure. We did not do much hiking away from the water because it was so hot, with a child and a dog tall grass (rattlesnakes) and ticks were a concern. Snakes are easy to spot in the water :)
Wildlife we saw included but not limited to: a hawk, multiple quail, rainbow birds (not technical name), a crane, 2 jackrabbits, cottontail rabbits, snakes, goats, and horses. We spent every afternoon watching and laughing at the silly horses, they used a tree outside the cabin as a back scratcher.
FYI NOT NEGATIVES ~ turn the ac unit up 75/76 when you go on adventures during the day, the Texas heat can be brutal and we left is on 72 and it froze ~previous visitors have taken or thrown away utensils I went to the dollar store and bought some forks to leave for the cabin
We LOVED our visit and the memories, cannot wait to come back and make some more!
The kids asked if we're coming back within the first hour of arriving. I dont know how to describe having so much nature around you and there isn't anyone else but your family. There is a alot to do and see, you will not miss the cable or wifi. We just can't say enough about this place except we will be back!
