This 3 year old ocean view solar studio is located in the guarded & gated community of Laguna Hills, just 5 miles east of downtown San Jose Del Cabo. It's just a few minutes' walk to a white, sandy beach, and Buzzards Bar & Grill where Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served. From November to March, enjoy the thrilling sights and sounds of the migrating humpback and grey whales as they pass by. Swimming is very safe during the winter months on our beach, and in the spring, surfing is just up the road. This property is 100% on solar, so please leave blow dryers, curling irons and the like, at home for now. Thank you.

Wish we could stay longer
We wanted to unplug. Kim's little studio was perfect, quite, clean and relaxing. The ocean views are beautiful, we wish we could have stayed longer.
Thank you Kim,
Luz and Gonzalo
Beachy studio with a Great View
Great place to stay with a fantastic view and a wonderful price value. Kim was a wonderful host and provided us with everything we needed. Loved the beachy décor, Buzzards Restaurant down the hill is a great little place to eat, Weather was a little cool and windy so didn't get to enjoy the beach as much as we wanted but had great walks and a great place to unwind and watch the whales go by.
Amazing Views, Sparkling Clean, Private
My Fiance and I stayed with Kim for 4 nights in February and would go back in a heartbeat. Her studio is really the size of a one-bedroom and is all windows, fresh air and relaxing vibes. The community it's situated in is safe and welcoming. I can't imagine every staying "in town" again after seeing what is just 12 minutes down the road. The location is remote and the wifi is slow (but never dead) -- but that gave just the true experience of connecting with the Baja landscape that we wanted. You 100% need to rent a car. Download google maps for all of the San Jose area before you arrive and you'll be good to go. It's perfect turn-by-turn from the airport to Kim's studio.
The studio was perfect for us, and the view was incredible!
We loved falling asleep to the sound of the ocean every night and waking up to sunrise. Kim was an awesome host and the studio had everything we needed! We will absolutely stay here again... we love the Baja!
Nora, so glad you enjoyed your time here! It was nice to meet you both, and look forward to seeing you again another time.
Best vacation getaway yet!
Studio Salinas has nearly everything we want in a vacation, and everything we need--quiet, wonderful weather, and an unobstructed 180-degree view of the Sea of Cortez with whales and dramatic storms at sea!
The studio is so well planned that it feels and lives much larger than 600 sf--that's triple the size of your average Tiny House, apparently so it's comparatively luxurious. There are no appliances with heating elements there, nor are you allowed to use them as the community is solar-powered and they are energy hogs. We quickly figured out how to toast our bagels and such on the gas cooktop. Cool polished concrete floors underfoot, ceiling fans and louvered windows take advantage of the lovely dry climate and sea breezes to control the interior environment. (I'm watching the snow fall in Seattle as I write this.)
Kim is a considerate and generous hostess and makes a real effort to make you feel at home while completely respecting your privacy. She let us use her gas grill one evening, and for my husband to do a load of wash. (He had packed light for the trip.)
If you require constant cell phone connectivity, high speed Internet or television, this is not for you. What is there (some kind of line of sight wireless relay, I understand) was perfectly acceptable for Netflix watching though we preloaded the shows rather than trying to stream. Preloading and bringing your entertainment media is hardly a problem--just remember to charge your devices when the sun is high and the home batteries are full.
Altogether a lovely romantic getaway, made even better since the East Cape Road was paved last year. You can now get to San Jose for shopping and amusement in <20 minutes by car. I observe that reservations are being made much further in advance as people discover this lovely vacation rental. Guess we'd better get crackin' and commit soon if we want to return next year!
Leslie & Andy,
Thanks so much for the great review! I'm so glad you got to enjoy our peace and quiet and of course, the whale shows. Best time of year to see them for sure. Look forward to your next trip here. Yes, the wifi is ok, but not what most are used to stateside. See you on your next trip down!
Serene, beautiful view, relaxing, very few people on the beach, amazing place to stay!
Let's start with Kim, the home owner- she is so nice and easy to work with and very helpful to anything in the area that you need to know. The Studio is everything you need for a couple. Very comfy bed and cozy well decorated room. Well equipped for cooking and relaxing. Just remember it's off the grid so no blender, food processor, coffee maker etc. There is a coffee pot you add hot water over coffee that makes great coffee! Having coffee on the front porch watching the whales is amazing!
There are a few grocery stores within 10-15 minutes. The Walmart has great prices on food, booze and whatever else you need. There is also a restaurant within walking distance called Buzzards. Great food and drinks with feet in the sand! Within 5 miles is Zacs which has good food and entertainment.
The area is so safe and we snorkeled right at the beach here- lots of small colorful fish. Kim has chairs umbrellas coolers and even snorkel equipment to borrow! You can't go wrong staying here.
We drove up to Cabo Pulmo on the main road - 1 1/2 hrs drive to do a snorkel tour. It was a fantastic drive and we saw so much snorkeling. The water was pretty chilly but worth snorkeling with sea lions and sea turtles and Lots of fish! We drove the dirt road down the coast which took quite awhile and is pretty rough but was well worth the views
The airport is 30 minutes away and is an easy drive. Google maps were dead on with all of our stops. We drove from Cabo San Lucan and it took less than an hour. So delighted to find this quiet retreat after staying in the hustle and bustle of Cabo San Lucas!
There is no TV but good internet. We had many great conversations instead and never missed any of it! We would highly recommend staying in this studio.
