Overview

About the property

Two bedrooms, one bath and located right on the beach. The perfect getaway!

Our sea front home is located in the south part of the very quaint, friendly and safe Garifuna fishing village of Hopkins. It has excellent views of the sea, sunrises and the Cayes from the 300 sq ft balcony.

During the week, the village tends to be fairly quiet ( except for the occasional rooster!) while on weekends the the area comes alive with music and activity.

The house has an open design, with vaulted, cathedral, tropical hardwood ceilings and large windows to maximize the Caribbean Sea breeze. Both bedrooms have split air conditioner units. With one queen bed, two twin beds ( which can be converted to a king bed) and a full futon in the living room, Casita Del Mar will comfortably sleep five-six people. Ceiling fans in each bedroom and two in the main living space give you alternatives for air flow.

A multi-filter system provides drinking water to both kitchen and bathroom allowing our guests easy access to unlimited fresh water.

There is a safe in the house where you can keep small valuables and documents so that you can relax worry-free on the beach.

Our one neighbour is away working in the States most of the time while the other is a friendly, elder woman of the village who keeps to herself but always has a moment to wave or say hello.

A short walk will get you to local grocery stores and a variety of restaurants. The beach is sandy, the water is 83 F and the Cayes, for snorkeling or diving, are only 5 miles out. Tired after swimming all morning? Relax in a hammock in the shade on the deck. Or check out the many adventure tours offered in the village from zip lining to cave exploration. Something for everyone.

Laundry facilities are available minutes away on the main street. Internet services are also available.

Our Property Manager, Mirko, speaks English and German. He is a registered agent with Tropic Air and a licensed tour operator ready to meet any of your needs during your stay.

Casita del Mar is registered and licensed with the Belize Tourism Board (BTB).

About Mirko Bechstedt (Property Manager)

Mirko Bechstedt, our local Property Manager, and his partner Annett, manage Casita Del Mar. Mirko is a registered agent with Tropic Air and can assist you with air travel within Belize. He is also a licensed tour agent and can readily handle any of the activities, trips or adventures you may wish to try while you stay in a Hopkins. They live minutes from the house and are available to assist our guests.

As the owners of Casita Del Mar, we are retired Canadians who have decided that Canadian winters are no longer for us. Scuba diving enthusiasts since our honeymoon 30+ years ago, made Belize a natural spot to return to time and again. Now we have decided to 'own' a part of the dream.

Mirko Bechstedt (Property Manager) purchased this house in 2014

Why Mirko Bechstedt (Property Manager) chose Belize

The village of Hopkins is quaint and quiet but there is much to do. Everything from lounging on the beach (or hammock) to participating in the many adventure tours offered from the village. Visit ancient Mayan ruins, try zip lining, deep sea fishing, do the Black Hole drop or spend a day snorkelling or scuba diving- our personal favourite. And these are just a few of the things to do around the area.

What makes this house unique

We selected this home in Hopkins because we were taken with the quaintness of the village and the warmth of its people. As you walk down the streets of Hopkins, you feel safe as you hear the friendly greeting, from all you meet 'Morning, Miss', 'Hello, Miss'. The house itself is open, airy and has a wonderful porch for outdoor living and it is right on the beach. The sand is clean and the water's easy entrance is a benefit for young and the more mature alike to enjoy. We hope that you enjoy our home as much as we hope to for many years to come.

We are licensed with the Belize Tourism Board (BTB).

Guestbook comments from the manager

This is a great place! We are loving it so far and really appreciate the welcoming touches - the cold drinks in the fridge and the coffee filters already stocked. Mirko got us settled and gave us some tips about the town. Thanks! It's definitely more quiet than San Pedro, but we're fine with that. The breeze is balmy and we feel very comfortable.

Great House with an even greater view!

  • 5 of 5

First off I would give this place a 10 star rating if I could. From booking to checking in the process was smooth. Mirko showed us the way to the house and showed us around the house and told us to call him with any needs we may have. The fact he took the time to not only leave a fresh fruit basket, but to have some good drinks in the fridge was such a thoughtful and wonderful gift to us. The house in it's self, could not be better. The bed was comfortable, bathroom large and the kitchen was equipped with anything you could want to fix a meal with. But the best part of this house is not only the breach location but the porch. We spent most of our time at the house on the porch and in the hammocks. To be able to sit and not only watch the waves, but to be able to hear them from anywhere in the house is so relaxing. This house is one we are looking forward to returning to. A person can not go wrong with staying here.

Amazing beach-front condo!

  • 5 of 5

from nokomis, florida November 20, 2016 at 8:56 pm:

Like everyone else, we had a fantastic stay at Casita Del Mar. We didn't want to leave. We have been home less than 24 hours and still hear the waves on the beach...the rustling of the coconut palms. I am so happy we had the opportunity to stay here. Mirko was fantastic and did an excellent job on our tour needs. We will definitely stay here again!

Women's getaway to Belize.

  • 5 of 5

A lovely, well-located home right on the beach and walking distance to some restaurants and a grocery store gave us a superb base to explore Belize, take in some adventures such as scuba diving, snorkelling, cave tubing, boat trip, and to just kick back, walk the sand and listen to the surf. The efficient and friendly property manager looked after setting up our tours.

The home is modern, neat and tidy. Seemed to be outfitted with everything we needed. I appreciated the nice linens.

The porch is the best...morning coffee, hammocks for naps and reading, table and chairs for eating together, and cocktails before dinner. We lived on the porch. There is often a breeze and only when it really rained, did we move inside.

We did rent a golf cart so we could venture out to some restaurants a little further from the home. This worked out really well.

Casita Del Mar

  • 5 of 5

Neat, clean, comfortable, well-equipped, attractive, beach accommodation with a lovely view of the Caribbean. Within easy walking distance of a grocery store and a few restaurants. The rental of bikes or a golf cart makes it easy to explore the village and visit a variety of restaurants. Arrangements for sightseeing and adventure tours can be made through a very efficient property manager - reef snorkelling, cave tubing, zip lining, Mayan ruins, fishing, etc. Local residents are very friendly and helpful. The sound of the surf at night compensates for a rooster crowing and some canine yowling.

Recommended for a relaxing/adventure holiday in the sun.

Casita Del Mar

Just back from a wonderful women's vacation on the beach in Hopkins, Belize. The house was modern, clean and comfortable with all at home conveniences. Even though it was the end of rainy season, the rain was episodic and did not interfere with any acticities and we tried a lot - zip lining, cave tubing, snorkeling, scuba diving, visiting Mayan ruins. Was easy to walk to grocery shopping and lots of restaurants. It was also fun to rent a golf cart for slightly longer jaunts. Able to cook in when we wanted but we also tried lots of restaurants, from inexpensive local food to slightly more exotic (try Love on the Rocks). Arrangements for transportation and activities was taken care of by the very efficient property manager and all went smoothly. The air conditioner helps to blurr the sounds of neighbourhood dogs and roosters. Overall it is a wonderfully pleasant, casual, relaxing area to stay. Just can't beat a balconey, sea breezes and a surf sound. I would be very happy to return here.

Casita Del Mar - Really Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Casita Del Mar for two weeks in August to September. This was a really great trip, and to be honest, was a very small "trial run" for us as we're thinking of moving to Belize for retirement. The house was awesome. Very comfortable. Well appointed. The cookware was Wolfgang Puck - not the usual "leftovers" that you see in a lot of rentals which was good because we cooked almost every day. Everything worked - no issues. A/Cs worked well - kept things very cool at night (we didn't use them during the day). The place was fairly bug-free, which is unusual for Caribbean properties. Just keep the place clean. The only things that I'd mention you might want to know is that the place is in town so there were a few barking dogs at night and the woman next door has chickens so hope you don't mind the sound of roosters occasionally crowing. Not overly annoying, but worth mentioning. Also, people burn their trash. They usually are good in that they wait for an offshore breeze which helps, but you can still smell it. Not really that bad but we're from Southern California, so weird for us! These aren't the fault of the owners or the property manager, but some things to keep in mind. Mirko, the property manager, was great! Anything we needed was handled quickly and professionally. A bike chain broke, and we forgot to mention it right away, but the guy who rakes up the beach must have reported it to Mirko and it was fixed right away. He can also arrange tours and transportation for you. We took the cave tubing tour which was great - highly recommend it. This is a great place to stay - lots to do, or nothing to do, as you want. Loved being right on the beach. Nice places to eat nearby - try Ella's Cool Spot. Great lobster! Grocery store was a couple minute walk, and the fruit stand was a short bike ride away. Would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: We are very pleased that you enjoyed staying at the house and perhaps you will be future neighbours! Living close to the amenities of town does mean that you also experience the quirks of your neighbours and their pets sometimes. It's all a part of being in the village as we have noted on our webpage. We hope you will come back for another stay.
