About Brenda Connely
We are Ted and Brenda Connely. Brenda grew up in Forks. Ted is from Nebraska but has been here on the Olympic Peninsula since 1976. We were living in Port Angeles when we found our river place. A friend mentioned the property might be available. We bought it and spent every spare moment for the next four years fixing up the old house on the property. One day in March of 2004 Brenda came back to the cabin from work in Port Angeles carrying Sam the cat, who had been the only one occupying the house in Port Angeles most of the time. 'We live here now,' she announced, 'we're always here anyway.' She got no argument from Ted and so the house in Port Angeles was sold and we became full time residents at the cabin. Since the cabin had only one bedroom and no garage, we decided to take care of both problems at once and build a garage with an apartment above. The loft was our guest room until we decided to buy a larger home closer to Forks, still on the river but not as special. We couldn't bring ourselves to sell the Riverside place so we decided to share it with others by turning in into a vacation rental. It has been gratifying to see our guests love it too. So many have told us they don't want to leave at the end of their stay.
Brenda Connely purchased this Apartment in 1995
Why Brenda Connely chose Port Angeles
Even though the property was all grown up with weeds and the house was very run down, we knew at first sight this was our place. The sparkling river running along the edge of the yard, the golden light coming through the trees, just the peaceful feel of the place. Many guests have used the word 'magical' to describe their feelings about the place.
What makes this Apartment unique
We originally bought this property for our own vacation home with no thought of its potential as a vacation rental property. But not only is it a beautiful, relaxing, welcoming spot to stay, it is very handily located within an hour's drive of nearly all the attractions of the northwest section of Olympic National Park. Many guest comment on what a great base camp it is for seeing the park. We have often heard how nice it is to come home to after a day of hiking and exploring to sit by the river, BBQ on the deck, sit by the river, build a fire in the firepit, and sleep in the very comfortable beds.

Loved it the minute we opened the door! Compact and complete. And the river with the fire pit is sweet!
Very nice place to stay while exploring NW Washington. Even loved the rain.
If we ever come back to this area would like to look into one of the bigger places there. Had a great time going to Cape Flattery and the beaches.
Thanks for the nice review Doug. Glad you liked the place. We'd love to have you come back and stay in one of our larger cabins.
Ted and Brenda
Great little loft right on one of the best steelheading and Salmon rivers in WA.
We enjoyed our stay at this little gem. The loft space is well designed and well used; although tight, it never felt cramped. The Cabin is perfectly situated along Hwy 101 for hiking ventures up into the National Park, fishing any of the local rivers, accessing Mora/LaPush beaches or enjoying Lake Cresent. The only complaint we have is around the terrible sleeper sofa; the pullout was so absurdly uncomfortable, I really didn’t sleep much for three nights. The metal framing under the flimsy mattress was a back killer and the bed itself was not level, with my head being lower than my feet. An upgraded sofa sleeper is desperately needed (please look at the American Leather Sleeper Sofas!). Otherwise, it’s a sweet stay!
Sorry about the sofa. I will look at American Leather. We have been talking about replacing that one although we did replace the mattress about two years ago with a supposedly great memory foam one. It was kind of expensive but I guess not great. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay otherwise. If you come back again and need two beds our Riversong cottage has a Murphy instead of a sofa and we are told those mattresses are wonderful.
Wonderful base from which to explore Olympic National Park
"The Loft" is very convenient to the Sol Duc Falls, La Push, and Hoh Rain Forest areas of Olympic National Park. The studio apartment was clean, nicely equipped, and was a perfect home base for the two of us during our 3-day stay. In the evening we enjoyed dining outside on the deck with its wonderful and relaxing view overlooking the large yard and river. The large hydrangea at the base of the steps was spectacular. The horseshoe pit was an unexpected bonus. I hadn't played in years, and we just had to give it a try.
Thanks for the great review David. We are always happy when our guests enjoy themselves at our place. Hope you can come back again soon.
Perfect place for two!
We thoroughly enjoyed our little piece of Olympic National Park heaven here. We used this as a base to explore Hoh Rain Forest, the beaches, and Sol Duc area. The Loft was very comfortable... good bed and pillows, nice towels, great shower wate4 pressure, etc. Had everything we needed. And the hummingbird show at the feeder was an added bonus! Thanks so much!
Thank you for such a wonderful review Barbara. We are glad you liked our place and we appreciate your letting us know.
Cute, clean, and great central location
My husband and I used this as our home base in a weekend spent exploring the Olympics. Great central location to all the sights and very clean and well maintained. It’s also a very picturesque location and I wish we would have allowed one more day just to hang out at the cabin and enjoy relaxing by the river!
Thanks for the nice review Stefanie. Glad you liked the cabin and hope you can come back again soon. It's beautiful here in the Fall.
This property is a great base camp for exploring the north Peninsula area of Olympic National Park.
It is located just off Highway 101 ten miles southwest of Lake Crescent providing quick and easy access to Lake Crescent Lodge, Storm King Ranger Station, Marymere Falls, Eagle Peak Ranger Station and Sol Duc Falls with hiking trails continuing into the Olympics.
Heading east from the cabins, it's less than an hour's drive to the main Park visitor center in Port Angeles, Hurricane Ridge, and the ferry to Victoria, British Columbia.
West from the cabins 8 miles is the junction of Hwy 113 which will take you to the Lake Ozette Ranger Station and the loop trail to the ocean at Ozette, the Makah Museum and Cape Flattery on the Makah Reservation. Shi Shi Beach on the Makah reservation is one of the most beautiful and remote beaches on the west coast.
Continuing from the cabins on 101 past the 113 junction for 9 miles will take you to Highway 110, (La Push road) providing access to 1st beach at La Push, the trailheads for Beach 2 and 3 and Rialto Beach across the Quillayute River.
Just past the 110 junction you will enter the town of Forks which provides shopping, restaurants, and Twilight attractions. Continuing south from Forks for 12 miles will take you to the access road for Hoh Rain Forest visitor center with miles of hiking rails. Another 25 miles south on 101 you will find Kalaloch Lodge perched on the bluff above miles of beautiful sandy beaches. There are many access points to this stretch of beach.
Many guests have told us how nice it is to come back to our cabins after a day of hiking and exploring to sit by the river, BBQ on the decks or soak in the hot tubs.
