About the property

The ultimate reunion and retreat getaway in Idaho

Expanded over 9 acres, we have converted the old Garden Valley High School, Middle School, and Elementary school into a one of a kind location for all of your family memories. Your Idaho family reunion location and corporate retreat facility. It is the perfect location for large family reunions, retreats, weddings, and large events. We have a fully functioning lodge with an awesome kitchen, full size basketball court, bounce houses, rock climbing wall, pond, ping pong table, pool table, foosball, and air hockey table for your enjoyment. Our facility sleeps over 80 people in beds and has a full commercial kitchen set up for big families.

Located only 50 minutes from the edges of Eagle Idaho, there are no other places that can accommodate large groups, be within an hour drive of Boise, and still get the mountainous feel like River Canyon Retreat. To sum it all up we are your perfect Idaho family reunion location.

Garden Valley, the gateway to an authentic Central Idaho Mountains adventure. Garden Valley is surrounded in all directions by mountain peaks, some over 7,000 feet. Two river systems carve valleys covered in the lush green of summer growth along with wildlife, stock and horses. In 1934 a new post office established the identity of Crouch, now one of the commercial districts for Garden Valley. The town was named after Billy Crouch, a miner who homesteaded near the confluence of the Middle and South Fork Rivers. In the 1920s, Crouch donated property for a new community hall in Garden Valley.

About Brandon Larson

We are a young family with a little boy and a baby girl. We recently graduated with degrees in Financial Economics and Marriage & Family Studies. Both of our families are originally from California, but we both feel like Idaho has always lived in our blood. Working jointly with my parents, we have completely renovated and upgraded this old high school into the perfect Idaho family reunion place.

What makes this lodge unique

Located near Boise Idaho, our property is family owned and operated and it offers a getaway from the big city into the mountains. The drive to Garden Valley is beautiful while you drive through canyons with intense rivers flowing through them and often seeing, deer, elk, and bald eagles just off the road. Sleeping over 75 people in beds, our lodge, bunk rooms, and family type rooms provide the needed space for all family members. Having fun activities on site is another feature that River Canyon Retreat boasts. Including but not limiting to swimming, fishing, zip lining, rock climbing, basketball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, soccer, dodgeball, ping pong, billiards, air hockey, foosball, etc.

Given our location to Boise, the size of our facility, our accommodations, activities, facilities, and view, I will personally stand behind River Canyon Retreat as the best Family Reunion location in Idaho.

Beautiful place for a family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had about 45 people there for our family reunion, but there was certainly room for many more. It had a well-equipped kitchen with a walk-in refrigerator and walk-in freezer. The rooms were wonderful with lots of comfortable beds. It is handicap accessible. The gym was probably my husband's favorite part - full basketball court. The owners remodeled this from an old school and went above and beyond and it is beautiful. They kept as much of the old school character as they could and did an amazing job. They are very accommodating and went out of their way to make our stay as fun and comfortable as they could. It has been several days since the reunion and our kids, nieces and nephews, etc. haven't stopped talking about how fun it was. Great place for kids with the bounce house and a huge gym to play in. Overall, I would give them an A+++++++.

Thank you River Canyon Retreat for a great place for us to go and Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We had our Women's Retreat here. Perfect setting. All of the accommodations were great. The kitchen is professionally done and easy to work in. The meeting room was comfortable. The beds were well above the norm.

The manager was very pleasant and easy to work with.

This is a wonderful place to go, get away, relax and regenerate.

We will definitely chose River Canyon again.

New Years Eve

  • 5 of 5

We had a family gathering of 32 people over New Year's at the River Canyon Retreat. We enjoyed all the activities and made great use of the gym and all it offered. The kids loved the stage and sound system to keep us entertained. The kitchen was fun to cook in and we made good use of it from Prime Rib dinner to home made do-nuts. It was so nice to have all the room we needed especially at meal time. Would love to stay again in summer time and know it would be just as much fun. Recommended for any kind of a bigger group.

Wonderful Family Reunoin Venue

  • 5 of 5

We had a family reunion here and had a really great time. Everyone enjoyed it and said it was the "best ever!" There were things for all ages: indoor bounce houses, water slide bounce house, basketball, volleyball, rock climbing wall, huge lawn area for games, swimming pool, fishing, etc. We had 130 people come. A few stayed in tents or trailers or rented a home nearby, but we had room for everyone. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to have a reunion in a beautiful area with lots to do. The walk-in fridge and freezer were great as was the commercial kitchen. The staff bent over backwards to help us with anything we needed and they were great to work with. If you want to get away from the city and have a great time, this is the place for you.

Awesome Facility For Large Gatherings

  • 5 of 5

We had a family reunion over Memorial Day weekend at River Canyon Retreat. What an awesome facility with a variety of activities to choose from. The climbing wall was a unique treat for everyone. The kids had a blast swimming and loved the fishing pond. The blowup toys got well used. The kitchen and eating area were fabulous for a large group. Brandon was great to work with. Responded quickly to all texts and emails. Looking forward to staying there again next year.

Bronco Catholic Spring Retreat -

  • 4 of 5

Brandon is an excellent host in a facility that is well on its way to being excellent too! The proximity to Boise is perfect, just away enough to be away. Our group of almost 50 university students was perhaps too large for what we were trying to do in that space. The lodge is a great space but rather hard to do quiet stuff with the kitchen so close. Gym is wonderful for students and we used the heck out of it. The kitchen still needs some upgrades - adding adequate coffee prep would be a huge step forward for those early mornings! and eventually getting a real dish washer would transform the experience as well. But this facility is still in process -- totally headed in the right direction.
