Minutes from St Ives, Fabulous Beaches and St Michael's Mount!

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, Breathtaking views. Minutes from St Ives & fabulous beaches

Hufflepuff Lodge is a two bedroom property that sleeps 4/5 people self catering.

Wake up to uninterrupted, panoramic countryside views as far as the eye can see in one direction and views straight across to St Michael's Mount and the sea in the other. Conveniently located on the A30 Coast to Coast road just outside St Ives, close to Hayle, Mounts Bay (St Michael's Mount is clearly visible from the windows!) and Penzance, you will find Hufflepuff Lodge attached to The Old Schoolhouse in Whitecross.

Hufflepuff lodge is fully equipped with the complete Sky Movies & Sky Sport packages, plus super fast Infinity broadband and a selection of family board games & books catering for those who prefer to stay in and just relax. Conversely, you will also find a selection of beach equipment, body boards and toys provided for you to enjoy when you're feeling active!

The open top bus in high season (closed top at other times) stops right outside Hufflepuff Lodge to St Ives, Hayle and Truro in one direction or to Mounts Bay, Penzance and Mousehole in the other so you don't even need to bother with your car if you don't want to!

The Lamb & Flag Pub with it's excellent restaurant is only a 12 min walk away and often hosts music evenings, BBQs and other events throughout the year. The Star inn, an award winning pub and home of the Penzance Brewing Company, is only a short walk in the other direction, as is a Chinese Takeaway (that delivers!), Spar shop for provisions and Post Office.

With many award winning beaches within very close proximity, such as St Ives, Porthminster, Porthmeor, 3 miles of stunning golden sands at Hayle, Gwitian, Marazion with St Michael's Mount, Praa Sands, Peranuthnoe... just to name a few, you'll be absolutely spoilt for choice.

Beat the crowds at high season by walking down to St Erth Station where you can get on the famous Lelant to St Ives train, pick the best seats before everybody piles on at Lelant (hot tip for you there!) and enjoy the breathtaking views on that famously scenic journey around the bay.

Easy access to the South West Costal path and there are lots of footpaths and Geocaching routes to enjoy right on the doorstep. The Tate Gallery, Jubilee Pool, Paradise Park, Sculpture Gardens and fabulous tea rooms are within easy reach and the stunning open air Minack Theatre, Lands End experience, Flambards and the Eden Project are just a short drive away.

For those who love to shop, Truro is only 20 mins away by car with all the big names you'd expect to see in any large city. It holds it's Farmers Market on Saturday mornings and Penzance has a Farmers Market on a Friday morning.

Hufflepuff Lodge is ideally situated as a convenient base, without any of the typically hair raising Cornish narrow lanes to navigate to get to it! An ideal location for convenient, quick and easy reach of all of the best that beautiful West Cornwall has to offer.

Why Michael & Julie Payne chose Ludgvan

Gastronomic delight! The far west of Cornwall is home to some of the finest restaurants in the UK and Penzance is reputed to be a Gastronomic haven for foodies to flock to and enjoy the finest fresh fish, shellfish and produce in the land.

The Old Schoolhouse holds a heartfelt, sentimental significance to the owner. It was the owner's childhood dream to live in such a property with panoramic views and no neighbours peering into the garden watching what you're doing!! Having visited West Cornwall, specifically St Ives, twice a year every year as a child, after losing both her parents unexpectedly, Julie took the tragedy and turned it into a positive. Not wanting to be right in the heart of St Ives with all the push and shove in high season, The Old Schoolhouse is comfortably on the outskirts and on the bus route right outside the house to pop in & out without the hassle of traffic & parking. Perfect location with a spectacular beach just at the end of the road in either direction - what's not to love?!

Hufflepuff Lodge, named so by her little girl Jennifer, enables visitors to come and enjoy the absolutely stunning big sky views all around and marvel at the landscape as it changes from countryside views to the left and costal views to the right. It combines the best of both worlds yet is on a 'proper' road not up a hair raising narrow lane, with very easy access to several big supermarkets, a huge M&S, Boots and NEXT within striking distance plus all the quirky independently owned boutiques, galleries and artisan food sellers of St Ives and Penzance. Dominoes & various other takeaways, deliver too - the kids are happy!!

What makes this cottage unique

The views and highly convenient location are exceptional. Hufflepuff Lodge at the brow of the hill in Whitecross, just on the outskirts of St Ives and the views across open countryside, awash with yellow in the Spring with flowering daffodils, are breathtaking. Look to the right and you're looking at the Sea and the top of St Michael's mount, fantastic lit up at night. Behind the property are gorgeous country walks and a footpath route that takes you across to the back of St Ives. There is a high point a short walk behind us called Trencrom Hill, from where, on a clear day, you can actually see all 3 coastlines! The views are truly magnificent and the convenience of location second to none. The beach is literally just at the bottom of the road in either direction, turn left from Hufflepuff Lodge and within minutes you're in Hayle or St Ives, turn right and you're on Marazion beach (owner's favourite) where its great fun to take a disposable BBQ down in the evenings and have a BBQ watching the sunset with a glass of something nice in your hand...

Beautiful home from home

We arrived to the most amazing welcome pack, made our stay extra special especially starting our first day off with an amazing cream tea, and our children were left a little gift each which was so welcome after an 8hr drive. On entering the property it was spotlessley clean, all bed linen fresh and crisp, the master bedroom was so spacious and the kingsize bed so comfortable . All cooking utensils provided were more than adequate. The living area sofa was very comfortable, and having sky movies an extra bonus especially on rainy days with children! Also lots of board games provided which our children enjoyed. There was also a shed situated outside with lots of buckets and spades , fishing nets etc which were very welcome meaning we didn't have to purchase any! Also a BBQ in the shed which would be perfect in summer months. This property also has a washing machine which was very useful meaning we could travel lighter. The views to the property are absolutely stunning, and even though it's on a busy road we never heard any of the traffic. Parking is hassle free, and plenty of space. The hosts are some of the nicest people we've ever met, they genuinely can't do enough for you and go above and beyond what is expected. We've stayed at many properties in and around st ives over the past 4years 2-3 times a year and can honestly say this is the best we've ever stayed in! Even though it's not directly in the centre of st ives we enjoyed being away from the hussle and bustle of a busy town at the end of the day. We've already booked to stay twice for next year and can't wait to return. Myself and our children were very tearful on leaving we didn't want to come home, which I think says it all! Alastair, Caroline , and family.

Excellent Holiday Accommodation

  • 5 of 5

Hufflepuff cottage is within view of St. Michael's mount and within 30 minutes of the locations of Lizard Point and Land's End. It is a tastefully decorated cottage with a theme of the coast and it is a comfortable accommodation. The proprietors ensure you have more than the normal starter welcome pack with Cornish treats and homemade preserves (which are available to buy for gifts returning home). The location is similar to the Channel Islands, with local grown produce for sale outside a number of properties with honesty box payments for the passing motorist to purchase. The proprietors welcome feed back to improve their facilities and offer discount to returning clients. They replace items that are worn e.g. table mats and towels to keep standards high. We found on arriving the property is not connected to the mains and has a septic tank. We were fortunate to have two years consecutive good weather in Cornwall for Whitsun, but we were provided with ample leaflets to visit locations, should the weather be inclement or use their board games/books etc . The only aspect (that was our personal choice to do) that we found advisable was to guide the driver of our car, when having to diagonally reverse over the uneven drive (in parts), then sweep in a circular movement around the proprietors parked cars to commence driving forward through the high walled gate entrance/exit. We would imagine the drive is on the agenda for improvement and that the proprietors would be considering erecting a mirror to observe the traffic in the lane (particularly when leaving the property in dark winter months). Presently, a guests car is projecting out into the lane before the driver can fully observe traffic coming down the lane from the left and a mirror would eliminate this cautious property exit. Laundry facilities and a clothes pull up dryer are available for guests with children on holiday. A small secure, secluded garden is at the rear of the cottage and a bench is on the front lawn where there is continuous busy passing traffic, you can also overlook nearby fields. The proprietors kindly text us to allow our entry to the cottage earlier, this was very welcome after a long eight hour traffic hold up journey. Anyone who stays in Hufflepuff cottage will receive a warm welcome and an enjoyable stay. Highly recommended.
