Located right on the Atlantic, this cottage is comfortable, airy, and homey. Featuring one large master bedroom, a full kitchen, living room with dining area, full bath and outside shower, a porch and two decks, this is a wonderful place for a tropical vacation. Used as a rental property since 2001, many people have enjoyed Seaglass Cottage. The house is 200 or so steps from Hidden Beach.
Owned by two artists, Seaglass Cottage is full of art. With handmade furniture, water color paintings, and lots of creations made from findings on the beach, the atmosphere is just right for a real beach house. Here you will find plenty of reading lamps, a king size bed, a fully stocked kitchen with everything imaginable needed for cooking, and a full size bathroom with tub. If you prefer, shower outside in the outdoor shower with a lovely palm frond roof.
Swimming and fishing is excellent. There are several beaches in the neighborhood. Because each side of the island is different, if the water on one side of the island is too wavy, just swim on the other side. Rainbow Beach, located on the Caribbean side, is about a 2 minute drive from the house. During summer months, swimming is excellent in the Atlantic Ocean and there is no finer swimming hole than Hidden Beach. The beach has pink sand and beautiful seashells which you can collect. There is also seaglass!
Eleuthera has several good restaurants and take-aways. Rainbow Inn, only five minutes from the house, has a variety of offerings. If you prefer to cook at home, there is a wonderful view of the water from the kitchen island. Enjoy the water while you prepare meals. You can buy fresh fish from the dock in James Cistern (about 10 minutes from the house).
Our gardener, Louis, lives on our property in a small apartment. Leo is very unobtrusive and respects guests' privacy to the utmost. You can call on him should you need help with anything. Our caretaker, Merci, lives in Palmetto Point and is just a phone call away.
All linens are provided. The house is self-catering. Please bring your own dishwashing soap, handi-wrap, food items, coffee filters, etc.
Please take a look at our website for detailed information about what you will find in the house.
To get to Eleuthera, fly either directly to the island from Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, or fly to Nassau and connect on either Southern Air, Bahamas Air, or Pineapple Air. All of the above mentioned airlines have websites for booking flights. Another choice is the Bahamas Fast Ferry. Nassau is about 50 miles from Eleuthera.
Fly into either Governor's Harbour Airport (GHB) or North Eleuthera Airport (ELH).
GHB is about 25 minutes from the house. ELH is about 45 minutes away.
It is best to secure a rental car prior to your arrival. There are 110 miles of beaches in Eleuthera which most guests like to explore. There is also a beautiful botanical garden - The Levy Plant Preserve - located on Banks Rd. in the Governor's Harbour area.
Eleuthera is quiet, serene, and beautiful. Research the island before you visit. The atmosphere is very laid back. Most islanders are on island time and the pace of life is very slow. Eleuthera is a lovely destination!
If you can't make it as far as Eleuthera, we own a charming treehouse (near Camden, SC) and a waterfront lakehouse on Lake Wateree (also near Camden). The VRBO listing numbers are 273075 and 471878.
PLEASE NOTE - A $70 CLEANING FEE IS REQUIRED AND MUST BE LEFT INSIDE THE HOUSE UPON DEPARTURE. We charge a 200.00 fully refundable damage deposit. Check in is at 3:00 p.m. Check out is 11:00 a.m. WE ONLY ACCEPT PAYMENTS THROUGH PAYPAL OR PERSONAL CHECK.
7 day minimum rentals are required. We do not rent the house for partial weeks unless your dates extend beyond one full week (ex: ten-day rentals).
Also, my son-in-law, Scott, handles all of the reservations. He will be happy to help you.
My husband and I own several unique properties which we rent as vacation rentals. We love Eleuthera, having discovered the Bahamas twenty or so years ago. We love Seaglass Cottage and are grateful for the time we are able to spend on the island.
Seaglass Cottage is just a short walk from the beach. It's nice to be able to run down to the beach; return to the house for a snack; return to the beach. When you're close to the shore, you can observe the water and the sand at different times of the day. It changes a lot!
There is usually a stiff breeze blowing from the east. That is a real advantage for not only does it cool you and the house, it shoos away the insects. Also, on the Atlantic side, the view of the cruise ships far off in the distance, especially at nighttime, is quite enchanting. If you like to observe ships in the distance, do bring a good pair of binoculars with you.

Laura's beach house is so cute and perfect and quaint and I really loved the decor! So creative and artistic! Sea glass and art EVERYWHERE! The house sits in front of the ocean and you can hear it all night long while you sleep. So very peaceful... The house is also so centrally located on the island, so it made driving so much easier and I was able to visit so many more beautiful beaches than I had planned for! Communication with Scott and Laura was quick and gracious! Louie the caretaker was also soooo nice and so helpful! The only issue was wifi, which didn't work at all while I was there, but hey, you're on a remote island, so I didn't feel like I should deduct any stars for that. :) One of the best kept secrets of the house is Laura's super sweet (and spicy) cat, Killy, who lives on the property and kept me company my entire stay. LOVED HER! She totally runs the place. ;))) Thanks for an amazing vacation!!!
EPIC LITTLE COTTAGE!
Communication with property manager (Scott) was efficient and planning was easy - plus there was a TON of info in binders at the house (for when the wifi doesn't work - about 25% of the time, but not a major issue at all).
Louie the caretaker is AWESOME. Nicest guy you'll meet. Bring him a beer and some leftovers for dinner, you'll make his day!
The view/s are epic - especially during a storm. Sound of the waves at night was great.
The artwork inside the cottage is intriguing and makes the place feel like a true beach vaca oasis. Bed was comfy - couch could've been comfier. Outdoor shower was cool to have, cold water only but nice on those hot days after the beach.
Rainbow bay is a cool little community with some awesome beaches and easy access to Gregory Town (15 ish minute drive). Spent a ton of time surfing/body surfing at surfer's beach..cool scene down there!
The little beach down below the cottage is a sweet hangout spot although we never really spent much time there or went swimming/snorkeling due to a couple days of high tides, stormy conditions and wanting to see so many other beaches - next time we'd take a day to just walk down to our own private beach there and hang. Rainbow Bay is also walkable - or a SHORT drive - but the least 'secluded' beach we went to (still a cool spot though).
Found a TON of sea glass at surfer's beach (up until then, couldn't believe how Laura had acquired so much at this cottage).
Basic amenities but worked perfectly for us. Cool to see cruise ships way off in the distance at night!
Beaches - surfer's (rent from Tom at Out Island Adventures, he'll give you the lowdown on the surf break out there too); Gaulding Cay (snorkel around the rock!); Snorkel the Current Cut (call Foster to be guided - 242.448.1609) - too many other to name, look in the beach binder while there!
Grub - HARD to find breakfast! Best to bring your own; Daddy Jo's; Laughing Lizard (guava smoothies); Rainbow Inn (Monday pizza night a good time to meet locals, cottage owners and tourists!); and LEOROSE in James Cistern RIGHT on the water - GO HERE! Tues night - BBQ with live band + THURSDAY night live music - FUN spot with delicious food + beverages.
If you can make the haul - go down to LIGHTHOUSE BEACH - its WORTH the nearly 2 hour commute each way provided you have a 4x4 and get goin early! Stop by Northside Inn and Cottages on your way home and see Rose for some EPIC homemade grub - call in advnace!
My husband and I traveled to Seaglass Cottage to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are frequent travelers thus have high standards, I am happy to say we couldn't have been happier with our trip. The Cottage boasts amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean and has a fabulous deck where you can take in the scenery. You are so close to the Ocean you can hear the waves crashing. There is so much to do and explore on Eleuthera and the locals couldn't be friendlier. There are several wonderful beaches throughout the island and even an incredible, accessible beach steps from the Cottage. If you are interested in exploring other islands it is easy to take a day trip to Harbour Island or Spanish Wells. The Cottage itself is wonderfully furnished with everything you could possibly need. The Owners are easy to communicate with and are incredibly knowledgeable regarding the island and things to do. I absolutely recommend Seaglass Cottage.
My husband and I spent the week of November 22-28 at Seaglass Cottage. We loved the area, the house, and the Bahamian people who are extremely helpful and friendly!
The house is very cute, comfortable, and well appointed. The kitchen is filled with a great selection of pots, pans, utensils - everything you need for cooking! The king size bed was really comfortable and the view of the water was lovely. We spent a lot of time in the living room and on the deck just enjoying the view. There is an awesome stereo system and a good selection of music. Every afternoon we enjoyed the tunes and a drink.
The great thing about Seaglass Cottage is all the personal, homey, and artistic touches. There is artwork everywhere! The owners used natural materials from the beach to make some of the most unique and artistic things! There is a good bookshelf with paperback books. The owners also provided books about shells, beach pebbles, tropical fish, and other subjects that pertain to the island.
We enjoyed several local restaurants and had our best meal at the Big Rock Grocery Store/restaurant which is only five minutes from the house. We also got conch fritters from Lee’s Diner which were delicious.
The Rainbow Bay area was perfect for our trip. It is centrally located so traveling either North or South was convenient. We spent most of our trip at Hidden Beach and Rainbow Beach and enjoyed the tremendous contrast between the two sides of the island.
I highly recommend this house. It is comfortable, colorful, bright, cheery and homey. It is very apparent that the Seaglass Cottage owners care about the visit and experience each guest has ! I took tons of photos for decorating ideas, as we live near the coast, also. We have already booked again for next year.
We spent 10 nights at Seaglass Cottage and, to us, it’s everything a true beach house should be. The cottage is cozy and rustic, but very comfortable. We enjoyed living among the owners’ artworks and other personal touches, and there’s a fine view of the Atlantic Ocean. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed is comfy and the deck is a perfect place for morning coffee or a sundowner. We loved snorkeling at Hidden Beach when the ocean was calm enough, and could simply head over to Rainbow Bay for a dip when it wasn’t. The outdoor shower was a treat when we came home hot and sandy. It was a new moon while we were there, and the stars were just spectacular! Tropical storm Kate slid on by offshore while we were there too, and the sky and ocean put on quite a show. The owners are friendly and responsive. Leo the gardener is unobtrusive, friendly and very helpful if needed. There is a resident kitty (head of pest control) who may greet you on the deck in the morning, or when you come home. We came primarily to relax, but the cottage is well located for day trips. Between Stubbs’ weekend BBQ, the souse from Culmer’s gas station on Saturday, whatever was on the menu at Lee’s Café, and all of the local grocery stores, we were well fed and happy (let’s not forget the wheat bread and coconut pastries from Governor's Harbour Bakery, or the pineapple tarts from Monica’s in Gregory Town). If you need a modern villa with all the bells and whistles to be happy, this is probably not the place for you. For us, it’s as close to perfect as it gets. We will definitely be back.
Eleuthera has 110 miles of beaches! Each one is different. Furthermore, because the island is so skinny, hopping from one side to the other is a breeze. If it's wavy on one side, swim on the other. You can explore beaches, caves, small settlements, and Governor's Harbour. There are beautiful historic buildings in GH and the Levy Plant Preserve is located nearby on Banks Rd.
