2 Bedroom, 1.5 Bath Historic Cottage - Idyllic Pastoral Mountain Farm Setting
The Granary is a charming getaway nestled in the mountains just minutes from Lexington, VA. With its idyllic location on a historic 100 acre farm, it provides a unique and pastoral setting that is perfect for your visit to the scenic Shenandoah Valley.
The Granary at Owl Moon Farm was originally constructed in the early 1900's and was operated for many years as part of a turn-of-the-century farm. It was completely renovated in 2007 to provide all of the modern comforts and conveniences of a mountain farm retreat, but with its exposed, hand-hewn beams, rough-sawn boards, and broad expanses of windows, it retains a unique and historic charm all its own.
The Granary comfortably sleeps seven people. There are two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed plus a queen-size sleeper sofa in addition to a sleeping nook with a twin-sized, custom made daybed. One bedroom is located downstairs with an antique queen-sized platform bed, luxury bedding, walk in closet, reading nook and direct access to the private rear deck. The other bedroom is privately located upstairs and features a four poster queen-size bed with luxury linens, antique dressers and walk-in closet. There is a very comfortable, brand new queen size sleeper sofa located in the great room. The sleeper sofa has an extra thick mattress and luxury bedding to assure a comfortable night's sleep - even for adults! The twin sized day bed with a new memory foam mattress is located in a sleeping alcove of the great room and is great for kids. If you are traveling with an infant, we can also provide a crib with an organic cotton mattress and sheets - just give us a few days advanced notice.
Located on the main floor, are one and a half bathrooms. The main bath features a one-of-a-kind shower/tub combination, antique marble sink, radiant panel heating and a high efficiency washer and dryer.
The kitchen is large, bright and fully equipped with a coffee maker, toaster, microwave and gas range. For your stay, we provide locally roasted gourmet coffee, an assortment of teas, creamers and sweeteners, including local organic honey. Overlooking two of our smaller sheep pastures and a large historic barn is a sun-filled dining nook with built-in seating under the antique bay window.
The living area is a spacious great room with vaulted 20' ceilings and original exposed post and beams. Free WiFi, 40" LED TV with Blu-ray player, DVD collection, numerous games, puzzles and books are also provided.
The spacious and private deck reaches over a rock-strewn stream. There is a stainless steel gas grill for your use and plenty of seating for relaxing, star-gazing and listening to the evening calls of the many owls that make their home in the surrounding forest.
The Granary is nestled on the southern slope of Hogback Mountain between two ridges and is privately situated on a 100 acre working farm with barns, woods, fields and meadows. Walking trails abound throughout the farm and afford the opportunity to experience the abundant wildlife that includes, turkey, grouse, deer, bear, hawks and numerous regional and migrating birds, including many bluebirds and a variety of woodpeckers.
The Granary is perfectly situated to serve as your home base as you explore the Shenandoah Valley and area attractions. It is only 10 minutes from the renowned Virginia Horse Center and just 9 miles from downtown historic Lexington, Washington & Lee University and VMI. The Humphrey's Gap entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway is approximately 25 minutes away via US 60.
Please relax and enjoy the serenity, seclusion and beauty of our area. Walking trails through pastures and hardwood forests extend north, east and south of The Granary. There is direct access from the farm to 2500 acres of Virginia State Game Commission land.

About Becky & Tripp
We are a family and farmers in constant training. We are honored to be stewards of this land and members of the Lexington community.
Becky & Tripp purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Becky & Tripp chose Lexington
We searched for well over 2 years and literally visited hundreds of farms in the mountains of Virginia before finding 'the one'. Owl Moon Farm, as it is now known, has truly become our family farm. We immediately fell in love with the pastoral seclusion, admired the history of the main home, the barns and the Granary guest cottage and were simply in awe of the views of the Blue Ridge mountain peaks from the farm. Although the farm is in a lovely, private location, we are less than 15 minutes from the historic city of Lexington where we have discovered several fine dining restaurants, a couple of excellent diners and cafes and even a fantastic local coffee roaster. We feel very fortunate to be a part of a thriving small American town and community and are humbled we have the opportunity to live and work on this magnificent property.
What makes this Cottage unique
The Granary has a charming and unique history all its own. The conversion of a 100+ year-old operational granary that was once an integral part of the community to a guest cottage was accomplished in a manner that remained true to its heritage while still adding the conveniences to enhance the stay of any modern traveler.

Beautiful home in picturesque setting
We had a wonderful time staying here with our two small children and another family. The house is exactly as advertised and has everything you'll need for your stay. The beds were very comfortable and everything was clean. We loved waking up and seeing the goats and chickens out the windows (a special treat for our kids). The property is beautiful and we enjoyed walking around. We were close enough to all the sights, but completely tucked away in the mountains in a peaceful setting. Would absolutely stay here again.
Wonderful location and setting!
Second stay in a week and just as great as our first. We cannot wait to stay again. Thank you for all your attention to make our stay memorable. Hi to the goats, chickens and dogs!
Perfect place to stay while visiting our son at W&L! We’ll be back many times.
Another fabulous stay at the Granery!
We love the serenity and beauty of the farm!! Our Cadets enjoy time away from Mother I!! Thanks again for another lovely weekend!!
Lovely home and atmosphere!
All the comforts of home!
Close to town but not too close. Quiet and peaceful setting.
Unique and wonderful
We stayed at the Granary to celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary and couldn't have had a better experience. The Granary was unique, very comfortable and well located. While there, a solitary peacefulness is experienced and yet you are only 15 minutes from Lexington and its one of a kind shops, great restaurants and historical attractions. The interior of the Granary was spotless and the furniture and especially the beds and linens were exceptional. Attention to detail was evident throughout and very much appreciated. We have stayed at numerous properties through VRBO and would highly recommend the Granary.
