About Dave and Colleen Jones

My Husband Dave and I Have lived in Campbell River for over 40 yrs. We originally came from the mainland but moved to Campbell River to open a Charter Fishing Company since my husband has fished all his life. So we made a go of it and it has been highly successful. It is called Fastwater Charters Ltd. so if you are also interested in catching the big one, our business is Family owned and operated for over 45 years and we would be more then happy to take you out to catch the big one. Our boats are covered and heated with a washroom on board. All you have to do is ask us and we would be more then happy to help you out!

Dave and Colleen Jones purchased this cabin in 1980

Why Dave and Colleen Jones chose Vancouver Island

Well Dave and I have been together since I was 18 and he was 27. Today he is 69 and I am a very young 60. Lol! We fell in love with the property and bought it in about 1980. Dave built the cabin in about 2010, it was to be his "man Cave!" So we let it sit and admired it for a few years and then decided to try renting it out. He was a little worried at first as a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into it, as he did do the building himself. It took him a few years but it was finally finished and he did a fabulous job! We love Vancouver Island, Campbell River and would never live anywhere else. Our view is spectacular of the ocean and the mountains and we just can't get enough of the wild life. Many times you will see the deer come right in the yard and try and eat my plants which they usually succeed in doing, or Mama raccoon and her babies are always hanging out you can usually spot them during the evening! One of my favorite things to do is watch the eagles as there is a nest right across the road and they are always flying around with the crows chasing after them. It is not unusual to see them sitting up in the tree eating there fresh catch of salmon or cod and many other treats. We have the best sunrises here so I am an early bird as I love to watch and take video's of them. They are so different daily especially on the water, its like a different painting every single day. You will see tons of Eagles with that distinct sound, sea lions, porpoises shagpokes and even whales going North to Alaska. You will usually always see the Blue Heron that is perched on the rock right at the water and he will sit there for hours until the eagles come and take over. We have also seen turkey vultures which I had never seen before. The would sit there with there wings out and I often wondered why they did that and found out the reason is because they are drying themselves which I found very interesting. I think that you will love the property as much as we so please come join us

What makes this cabin unique

You can't get enough of the beautiful ocean views, sunrises and all the wildlife! What a great place to live!!

Amazing Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

This, without doubt, is as well equipped and luxurious a property that I have ever experienced for a short break. Dave and Colleen have taken time to make sure that there is enough you could wish for provided for your comfort, including most welcome provisions including eggs, bread, milk and wine. If I ever return to the area, this will be top of my list of places to stay

Oceanside Cabin is amazing over and over again.

  • 5 of 5

I wish I could say something about this place to keep people away so I could reserve it any time I wanted, but that is absolutely not the case. Dave and Colleen have created a fantastic vacation destination here. They have thought of absolutely EVERYTHING to make the stay as comfortable as possible. The cabin has amazing morning sunrise view, great views of the water and its super clean and comfortable inside. Colleen knows about every cool place to go, things to see and do, and great suggestions for everything. Dave has added some nice touches on the walls including a monster salmon caught Tyee-style, and a couple of homemade salmon/steelhead rods hanging on the walls. If you go fishing, make sure to book Dave- he's a very friendly and hardworking captain who will do whatever he can to get you into fish. The cabin is about 10-15mins from downtown Campbell River so you feel like you're not smack in the middle of all that activity but still close enough to go in/out easily. Dave & Colleen are such nice people.. We will definitely be back, this place is awesome.

The cabin is perfect and the Arctic Fox makes a great second room.

Colleen and David were wonderful hosts. The kitchen is well stocked and Colleen had snacks and a bottle of wine waiting for us. We watched two eagles while having breakfast on the perfect deck. The only drawback is the noise from the traffic on coast road in front of the cabin.

Must see places in Campbell River are Canada's first Saltwater fishing pier. It is open 24 hrs a day. It has built-in rod holders, cleaning tables, picnic tables and benches, It also has a concession which is open from 7 am till dusk. They have the best hard ice-cream in town as well as hot dogs, fish and chips etc. They are open from May to October and supplies rods and tackle rentals as well as licenses. Free fishing and rods for kids under 16. Wheelchair accessible and onsite public washrooms and R.V. Parking. Fabulous setting for wildlife viewing! Oh and kids if it wiggles and has a tail you will get a free famous ice-cream cone! THIS IS AN AMAZING SITE, NOT TO BE MISSED! ELK FALLS SUSPENSION BRIDGE! This has just been opened and the sights are truly breathtaking.

Another great adventure is Quinsam Nature Trail and Elk Falls Provincial Park. The trail takes 2 kilometers one way or 45 minutes round trip and is easy. The trail is a gorgeous walk through the low lands of the Quinsam River through huge Douglas Fir trees with Cedar Trees, some are close to a 1000 yrs old. The trail follows spawning channels and all the old maple trees make a gorgeous canopy. I have complete directions if you choose to take a walk through this beautiful nature trail. Another famous area is Ripple Rock (Seymour Narrows) It was the most dangerous stretch of water on the inside passage of Vancouver Island. Between 1850 and 1953 more then 100 ships struck the rocks and sank. In 1953 the BC government decided to blast Ripple Rock apart, It turned out to be the largest peacetime non-nuclear explosion in the world. Walk the Ripple Rock trail up to the summit. At the end of the trail you will overlook Seymour Narrows where you can see Quadra Island, the mainland and a view of the ships passing by and if your timing is right you will see the Cruise Ships go by. Seymour Narrows is less then a kilometer wide and you are high up so the view is beautiful.

If you are into Golfing, Storey Creek Golf Club is just a 3 minute drive from the cabin or a beautiful walk. You will always see Eagles soaring, deer wandering all over, owls and an occasional black Bear! Storey Creek has been voted the 3rd best public course in B.C.

LOVE SKIING!!! Mount Washington is the place to go and only 30 minutes away. You can ski, snowboard, snowshoe, hike the beautiful trails. Mount Washington is the gateway to Strathcona park it provides boardwalk access to many lakes, and trails, it is the perfect place for families looking for the outdoor adventure. Loads of Mountain biking trails as well!

Campbell Rivers regional human history museum ranks with the biggest and the best across Canada. We are open year round, from October 1 to May 17, the Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 12-5 pm, in December daily from 10 to 5 and from May 18 to September 30, 10-5 pm. You must try Dicks Fish and Chips, the best in town and they are right across the Fishing Pier! If you are looking for steaks and seafood the best in town is "The Harbor Grill" they are pricey but well worth it. My favorite is the Seafood (crab, scallops and prawns) in a creamy sauce with angel hair pasta! Fabulous! Or Peppercorn sauce for your steaks, out of this world! The neighborhood pub on dogwood, called The Royal Coachman is great as well. There is also Moxie's bar and grill, they have the best Spinach Salad and then on the water is The Riptide Bar and restaurant, they have many items on there menu as well but I love there home made Pizza! These are just a few of my favorite choices. We Also have many Sushi Bars and restaurants as well such as Wasabi just up dogwood next to quality foods!
