Relax and unwind
Beautiful and quiet setting if relaxation is what you are looking for. House is very comfortable and pool and location to the beach are amazing.
By far the best value and beach in the area!
We have stayed at Mukul next door and have always admired this house. Great find and can't wait to return.
Great property, amazing price!
Casa Guacalito is amazing. A group of us stayed here for a couple of nights and couldn't have asked for a better place to relax. We had the entire beach to ourselves (which is the picturesque beach that I have ever been to) and loved exploring the tide pools and surrounding area. Its just a quick walk through the backyard. Communication was great- responses within minutes. The house itself is very conducive to hanging out with friends and family as the whole first floor is open to the pool. We also had a local sell us fresh lobster that we watched him catch in the water minutes before! Can't beat this property for the price!
What a nightmare!
I had high hopes for this house based on the pictures, description, and other reviews. I sure was wrong. We experienced many issues with the house. The worst part was they couldn't careless about any of them and just ignored us.
Here's a more accurate description of the house so you have a better idea of what you are getting.
Looking for a Nicaraguan adventure? You'll find it here! This home sits atop a hill overlooking a stunning Pacific beach. To access the beach, all you need to do is make your way down this hill, littered with sharp rocks, sticks, and stray animal feces. We suggest bringing your hiking shoes for this adventurous trek to the water. Halfway down this hill, be prepared to launch your beach bag over the barbed wire fence that blocks your beach access. You'll never fit it through the gap in the fence posts. If you've been working out for that perfect bikini body, you should be able to squeeze your way through the minuscule space between the barbed wire that is considered your beach access.
Not rocking a body worthy of a fitness magazine cover? Not current on your tetanus shot? I'm sorry to say there is no other way to access that lovely beach, but at least the house has a pool! With a gorgeous view of the beach and the barbed wire closing you in, you can take a breathtaking swim with the bees. These bees, who also love the pool, will most certainly take issue with you invading their territory. In less than 48 hours, both my wife and my four-year-old son were stung by two of the dozens of bees that don't like to share their pool. We involuntarily gave up access to our beach toys, which the bees found delightful homes. Maybe you'll donate yours to the bees too. It won't matter; you can't get to the beach anyway.
No beach? No pool? No matter! You don't want to get dirty anyway! Only one of the three showers in the house works, and it can be a pain to crowd everyone into one shower.
It's unlikely you came all the way to Nicaragua to spend time in the outdoors anyway, right? There's plenty to do inside, even when you're in a tropical paradise. Our kids found tons of entertainment in the house. After his bee sting scared him away from the pool and rendered his years of swimming lessons worthless, our son's favorite activity was collecting the many house ants with a piece of paper and feeding them to the house spiders. Just one of the many delightful things you can do in your Nicaraguan house adventure if you choose to stay here!
Thank you for your feedback.
The issue with the fence is resolved. It was an error with the neighbors survey and they shouldn't have put it there. As you yourself note, the beach access was left open. We agree with you that the fence was unsightly and the beach access they left too narrow.
We were surprised to hear about litter and animal feces and went to investigate. We found none; the surrounding area is very well kept by the resort (since the beach is a nestling turtle sanctuary) and the property itself is looked after carefully by Adolfo. There are no 'stray animals'.... there are, however, monkeys, tree sloths, iguanas and other wildlife about -- but these don't produce a lot of feces, especially around the homes. We found no feces of any type after receiving your complaint. Likewise, no litter.
Your comment that we couldn't care less is untrue. Since before you arrived through your trip we responded to all of your communications in most cases within minutes.
Had you reported the shower pressure issue, we would have resolved it. All that needed to be done was to soak the shower heads in vinegar. They had become clogged by calcium from the very hard water we have in the area.
We are sorry you went away with such a negative overall impression and hope you give us an opportunity to make it up to you sometime in the future.
Best value for money in guacalito/redonda bay area
If you are looking for a relaxing get away at a pretty much private beach (playa guacalito) and your own pool this is it. Spent three nights as a family with two younger children. Morning walks on the beach in which we had the beach to ourselves then spent afternoons in the pool. Each day only saw a few people on the beach from the nearby guacalito resort. While we did not need need tv or wifi, be aware that these services were not working, but trust me you don't need them (or if you do just use Movistar 3G on your phone as reception was fine and kids watched Netflix streaming on phone).
as others have recommended stock up on groceries on your way in as other than bottle water provided not much to be found nearby. There are some good hikes to close by viewpoints of the ocean cliffs.
Also, while this property is officially in the "guacalito" resort to get inside the "pellas and mukul" areas you will need to make a reservation at the restaurant or spa as the entrance and exit is through the service entrance of the property as the couple of houses on this beach were the original homes prior to construction of mukul/guacalito.
Overall though for the price and accommodations of the house this is the best value I've found in the area.
Beautiful house with a gorgeous beach!
This house is as beautiful as it is in the photos. The beach is AMAZING, and we mostly had it to ourselves. If you have any concerns about safety, don't. There are 2 guard gates before you get to the house. You can feel certain that there won't be anyone on the property who doesn't belong. We arrived at the airport late at night, and our driver was there to meet us just as planned and the trip to the house went very smoothly, despite the late hour. Our driver pulled over to let us see the Masaya Volcano outside of Managua...beautiful! The house is secluded, so if you're looking for a beach that feels like your very own, this is it! The pool is beautiful and offers a great view to the beach.
Some things we would suggest:
Bring beach towels (there aren't any in the house)
Bring a hair dryer if you need one
Bring some basic seasonings if you plan to cook
Bring coffee filters (none to be found even at Maxi Pali), or plan to use the espresso maker
Know at least some basic Spanish
Consider renting a mobile wifi devise. We got ours at the airport
Places we would recommend:
A visit to Gigante
A visit to Mag Rock
Avis near Guacalito (car rental is very reasonable)
Bordport Coffee Shop by Avis...great iced lattes, nice guy who works there, and good wifi
Fruit stands in Tola
Playa Colorado in Hacienda Iguana and the beach restaurant there...love this beach!
Fishing with Zack
A visit to Ometepe, but if you want to hike the volcano, you should probably make plans to stay overnight
We will miss the relaxed, laid back atmosphere...walking down to the beach in the morning in our pajamas if we felt like it. And we will definitely miss this beautiful place!
A hugethank you to Iain for all the help and info. It was nice to meet him in person, and he was available by WhatsApp pretty much all the time. We're happy to have a new friend!
