About Property Manager/Owner

I'm a farmer's son, grew up both in the city, and worked on the farm with Dad, and did some farming with my Uncle as well. Both Mom and Dad's grandparents homesteaded our family farms in Northern Oklahoma in 1893. After serving six years in the US ARMY 101st Airborne in communications, I settled in Nashville working a big boy job in electronics as technician and engineer while being active full time in the Nashville live music circuit. Toured, booking festivals, concerts across 20 cities - I achieved all I ever wanted to in the big city, and was ready to get back to my roots, and a simpler life where I could spend more time with family and be apart of the things that are most important in our life.

Property Manager/Owner purchased this lodge in 2014

Why Property Manager/Owner chose Arroyo Seco

There's two homes, plus a small adobe "Shop" all on the property, which we call "Seco Trading Post" - though by appointment only, the main prize is the rustic decor, and historic New Mexican look of both furnished homes. Royal Bear is the best value vacation homes closest to Arroyo Seco, New Mexico.

What makes this lodge unique

Good, clean water. Everything is all inclusive. Firewood provided, and both homes

also have gas heater fireplaces as well. A variety of pinon, aspen, and cedar provided, as well as stocked kitchen with basic foods & cooking supplies for our gusts.

We are Pet Friendly! Fast Wi-Fi, Big screen TV, Hot Tub in the Lodge, Free Long distance, a full laundry room in the Adobe.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We absolutely loved our stay in the Adobe home at the Royal Bear Lodge! The owner was incredibly kind and helpful and offered some really great recommendations for us that helped turn our trip into an even more memorable one. The place itself was clean, beautiful, charming, and had plenty of space. It was also peaceful quiet to sleep there at night. If you are looking for an absolutely stunning part of New Mexico to visit, Arroyo Seco is definitely the place to go, and Royal Bear is in the heart of it all! Everything's so green, including the mountains that seem to encircle the entire area. Taos also is only a short drive away and offers a lot of great things to see and do. If you're looking for a relaxing stay, this place is it!"

Rustic charm with friendly host and ideal location for skiing Taos

  • 4 of 5

18 minute drive to Taos Ski Valley

Plentiful firewood for powerful woodstove

Great wide-screen TV with satellite.

2 minute walk to Sol organic grocery store

3 minute walk to Taos Cow (ice cream and coffee)

Only complaint was that wifi was too slow for music streaming.

A surprise hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5

This is a hidden gem found where you least expect it. The inside is very clean and well maintained and adorable. It’s a quiet, little retreat and the second floor has a deck and a hot tub for viewing sunsets. We felt so peaceful and safe tucked away in the sweet little lodge.

Super Cute, clean and charming

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay. Loved the charm, and the owner is a very nice guy. Also, the drive to the mountain is cut in half staying in Arroyo Seco vs Taos. We'll definitely be back. Thanks for the hospitality.

Enchantment in Seco

  • 4 of 5

Lovely property in downtown Arroyo Seco! Wonderful space, upstairs bedroom loft, sleeps 6-8 with Murphy bed & inflatable bed. 1block from downtown Seco. Both gas & wood burning fireplaces. 1 bathroom downstairs. Spiral staircase may be difficult to navigate for small children & those with disabilities or coordination issues.

There is a roof top terrace off the upstairs bedroom with a small hot tub & great views!

Only issues were the lack of dishwashing soap to wash dishes - when we asked about it Bradley informed us that we could purchase that at the local store. I have no problem buying certain things for a home away stay but certain items should come with home. We also almost ran out of TP, and figured that would be our responsibility too.

All in all it was a wonderful stay & I would stay there again!

Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

Staying at the Black Bear Lodge was AMAZING! I was looking for something specific and I found it with lots of bonuses. The home is absolutely charming, feels like a hug as soon as you walk in the front door. The property owner was so nice and helpful in anything asked, very personal and kind. Watching sunsets in the hot tub (priceless). The little cute town is at the end of the street, so cool, close to good food and fun. Swam in the Rio Grande because it is so close. The majestic mountains surrounding this little town and this home are just that, majestic and breath taking. I highly recommend this amazing town, home and home owner. We WILL be BACK (hated to leave). Shout out to Bradley and Brandy (miss you guys, thanks for the memories!)

Everything you would expect in a mountain cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our experience at the Royal Bear. The two-story cabin was charmingly rustic, well-appointed and in a lovely location. The huge windows on the second floor let in expansive views of the valley and lots of beautiful Taos light. Owner Bradley kept us well-stocked with firewood for the wood-burning stove that heated the cabin. Despite our visit being at the end of April/first days of May, we had several inches of snow on Friday and on Sunday. We were expecting cooler temperatures at elevation but the snow was surprise. The valley and the mountain town were just beautiful in the snow and it didn't last more than a day either time. We were able to walk into Arroyo Seco for shopping and restaurants frequently. Love the ice cream at Taos Cow and the breakfast burrito at Abe's Cocina. We were looking forward to those addictive New Mexico cheese curds at Aceq, but unfortunately they were remodeling when we visited. The spiral staircase up to the second floor doesn't have a railing, so might not be a great choice for a family with young children, but couples looking for a romantic getaway or a group of friends interested in a hiking, whitewater rafting or ski weekend would like this place. It's just steps away from the famous Arroyo Seco Fourth of July parade, too, so no worries about parking!
