About T J Tompkins

I am a Realtor that has specialized in the Management of Single Family Homes since 1977. I fell into vacation rentals by offering my own homes for short term, vacation & corporate housing some years ago. I have booked beyond my wildest imagination. Because I am a small company and currently have 100% occupancy I am able to travel quite a bit and really enjoy my semi-retirement. This is a picture on me at the black sand beach in Hawaii. Life is Good and I count my blessings daily.

Why T J Tompkins chose Ocklawaha

I really enjoy getting out of the noise and bustle of the city and have enjoyed the Ocala National Forest for many years. Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Comfortable cabin, met expectations

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was as expected and explained by the property owner and VRBO. The furniture is a little dated but everything was clean and well stocked for a comfortable stay. The property is a little tricky to get to the first time, so be sure to do as the listing says and follow instructions carefully and plan to get there before dark. Many of the neighboring houses and neighboring properties were in a run down condition, but the area was quiet and I felt safe. My kids were very appreciative of the cable TV and Wi-Fi when we returned to the cabin after a tiring day of kayaking and exploring. The property is about a 30 minute drive to the many springs in the area... we visited Silver Springs, Juniper Springs and Alexander Springs....which I highly recommend. It is also only a short drive to Lake Weir. The kids were able to play on the beach there while the adults watched on and ate an appetizer ate Gator Joe's Restaurant..... which I highly recommend as well. I appreciated that the property manager messaged me prior to arrival and again on arrival to make sure that we did not need anything or have any questions. I would stay at this cabin again if we return to the area.

Quiet Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is away from it all. Was clean and cozy. Was thrilled it was pet friendly, especially for our large dog. Loved the yard for the dog. Was able to cook and relax after our days of site-seeing. Linens were included which was a plus. TJ was most helpful in answering our questions promptly. The swamp was quite interesting especially at night. Really loved the peace and quiet. Thanks for a great stay. PS Daisy did come visit.

Rustic Cabin

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is old but very clean (clean, dry,& warm) for winter stay. It was about 1 miles on sand roads from main hwy to the cabin. We enjoyed the quiet and having Daisy come and visit us. Dale would walk on the sand roads around cabin and into the National Forest everyday The neighbors were all friendly. Great internet and cable tv-a great quiet get-a- way for snowbirds!

Warm, relaxing cabin

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful stay at this little cabin in the woods. We were here during hurricane Matthew. TJ was so helpful in making our stay pleasant and comfortable. Cabin has all that is needed for a pleasant stay. TV and internet for those who want to stay connected. Would recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing time spent in the woods. Watched the squirrels and the wood peckers from the front porch. Very peaceful.

A cozy and charming getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved the vintage feel of this cabin and the secluded grounds under the shady oaks! We spent a comfortable three nights in the forest retreat. We enjoyed having a fire in the fire pit and grilling suppers which we are at the picnic table. Beautiful surroundings and gracious accommodations. TJ was easy to correspond with and very helpful. We loved it! Hope to return to the little red cabin in the forest!

We're looking forward to our next stay here!

  • 5 of 5

What a great getaway! The house was very cozy, and provided everything for a very comfortable stay. This is a great location for anyone looking to visit the Villages, Ocala, Silver Springs, or Lake Weir. Safe and quiet area, with plenty of beautiful wildlife to make everyday exciting and interesting for my 6 and 4 year old. The wifi and home amenities kept us very comfortable for our month visit, and the children and dogs wanted to stay FOREVER!! We are looking forward to visiting again soon and enjoying more of the Spring areas and the Forest! Thanks for a great visit!

Map

Special Places: Protecting the world's largest contigious sand pine scrub forest, a desert-like environment atop ancient sand dunes that stood well above the waves of primordial seas, the Ocala National Forest is full of special places, from our four major springs to hundreds of lakes and ponds, islands of longleaf pine, and sinuous waterways that breathe life into an otherwise arid environment. Botanical wonders as well as archaelogical and historic sites are waiting for you to explore.

Alexander Springs: There are only 27 first-magnitude springs in Florida, and Alexander Springs is by far one of the easiest for visitors to enjoy. A broad and naturally gently sloped spring pool becomes a natural water park when visitors come to picnic, swim, and play. The water is a constant 72°F and extraordinarily clear. Ripples play across the sand bottom as small fish dart about. Surrounded by a floodplain forest of maples, sweetgum, and cabbage palms, this recreation area feels almost tropical.

Salt Springs Recreation Area is one of the recreational jewels of the Ocala National Forest. The recreation area is located in the lush, semi-tropical setting of central Florida. Within the recreation area is a natural spring rising from vertical fissures (cracks) from deep within the earth. The presence of potassium, magnesium and sodium salts give the waters in the spring a slight salinity. Hence the name Salt Springs.

Alexandar Springs & Run: Bubbling forth from Alexander Springs into Alexander Creek, this popular canoe run starts at the Alexander Springs Recreation Area and continues for about six miles of paddling to the take-out on the north shore at 52 Landing. The run is broad and swift, with many small islands and little dry land to bank on for the first several miles. A paddling trip is the easiest way to experience the heart of the Alexander Springs Wilderness.

Juniper Springs & Run: Showcasing sparkling springs in a subtropical setting, Juniper Springs is one of the oldest and best known recreation areas on the East Coast. Located between Ocala and Ormond Beach along SR 40, this complex of swimming and picnic area, campground, and trails was constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The setting is unlike any other found in the United States, with hundreds of tiny bubbling springs and massive springs gushing out of crevices in the earth beneath a dense canopy of palms and oaks, an oasis within the heart of the desert-like Big Scrub.

Named one of the top 25 canoe runs in America by ReserveAmerica and typically a high point of a visit to Florida, Juniper Run is a narrow, winding waterway set under a dense canopy of old-growth forest and few places solid enough to get out of your canoe. The 7-mile journey starts just below the springs and follows the spring run through the heart of the Juniper Prairie Wilderness to a take-out off SR 19, well before the run empties into the St. Johns River at Lake George.

Silver Glen Springs: As the sun shines, rainbows play across the bottom of the crystal-clear spring basin at Silver Glen Springs, a beautiful spot along the edge of the Big Scrub of the Ocala National Forest, with a spring run that pours out into Lake George, the largest of the St. Johns River Chain of Lakes, north of Astor. Both a popular day use recreation area and an important archaeological site, Silver Glen Springs showcases the delicate balance necessary between enjoyment of the outdoors and preservation of irreplaceable resources.

Fishing: Cast for bass in the free-flowing Ocklawaha, or from your kayak adrift down Alexander Run. With two major rivers and several large streams flowing through the Ocala National Forest, both bank fishing and fishing from your watercraft - motorized or not - can be enjoyed on our subtropical waterways.

Fishing is a very popular activity inside the Ocala National Forest, where our larger lakes - particularly Lake George and Lake Kerr - yield serious-sized bass. Small lakes offer an opportunity for a quiet afternoon spent casting for panfish.

Hiking: Day hikers and backpackers alike will find plenty of ways to explore the unique habitats of the Ocala National Forest thanks to our many hiking trails. Ranging from half-mile boardwalks to nearly 100 miles of backpacking, we have many hiking-only trails that showcase natural beauty and cultural resources throughout the Forest.

OffRoadVehicles: With nearly 200 miles of ATV / motorcycle trails and another 81 miles of off-road trails for Jeeps and other 4WD vehicles, the Ocala National Forest is Florida's top destination for off-roading.

St. Johns River Cruises operates boat tours daily at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. This is a two-hour narrated nature and ecological cruise on the beautiful and historic St. Johns River. Info 407/330-1612
