About Property Manager/Owner
Nell and Michael are musicians/songwriters who are active in Nashville's progressive community. We are part of a statewide network of like minded people. Michael has been in Nashville since 1987, Nell since 1989. Michael hosts the weekly music show, the Acoustic Music Hour on Radio Free Nashville. Nell is on the Executive and Affordable Housing Committees of Nashville Organized for Action and Hope (NOAH), a coalition of 48 organizations working to make Nashville the "It City" for all its residents.
Property Manager/Owner purchased this House in 1996
Why Property Manager/Owner chose Lockeland Springs
Nell is a native of San Francisco. Michael lived in SF for 19 years. We love old houses and walkable neighborhoods. When we came to East Nashville we found a diverse, urban neighborhood with incredible old homes, sidewalks and Shelby Park. We saw the beginnings of the East Nashville music scene unfolding. We found this 3000 square foot house, one of the oldest Craftsman houses in the neighborhood. It had 100 year old hardwood floors, an open floor plan, beautiful casement windows, high ceilings, a large kitchen with a pantry. It was painted in bold colors (that we have never changed) AND it had a music room with dynamite acoustics. We knew right away that this was our home. Events we have hosted here include a video shoot for a major music company, large parties and house concerts. The home has been on the Lockeland Springs home tour twice. We bought this house long before the neighborhood had any of the amenities it has today. We are incredibly blessed to live in this very special house and neighborhood.
What makes this House unique
We have a lot of space around our house since it sits on two lots. We can play music at midnight and not disturb the neighbors. We walk miles around our neighborhood every day. We have five coffee houses within walking distance. New restaurants, boutiques and music clubs have proliferated here. We have the architectural plans framed on the wall from when the house was built in 1910. They have been passed along from owner to owner since then. Our walls are filled with an eclectic collection of musical art that we have acquired over the years. This is a unique house in a unique neighborhood in a unique city. If you like music, Nashville is like no other place in the world.

Convenient location in a pleasant area.
East Nashville is a pleasant residential area with good places to eat (Juice Bar on Fatherland, Sweet 16 Bakery) . I chose it as I could walk to Shelby Bottoms nature reserve from there. Nice room in lovely house; friendly musical hosts. Chilly weather so I enjoyed the bathtub and relaxing environment after a hectic week at Vanderbilt University.
Thanks for staying with us. We enjoyed meeting and hosting you. Nell and Michael
Warm welcome and hospitality! Owners were nice couple
Location ideal for variety activities
Thanks for staying with us. You are welcome back anytime.
My 3 day stay in Nashville
Good location in a very safe neighbourhood, Nell and Michael made us feel very welcome in there home .Michael gave us all the useful information about where to go ,eat, drink, visit etc. So thank you .
I gave 3 stars because I think the property needs a little bit work .Locks , door handles and doors that maybe could fit a little better , apart from those minor niggles I would recommend staying with Michael and Nell
The property is located in a very nice neighborhood and only a block from public transit. The room was adequate, however the bath/shower in tub are a challenge. Michael pointed out the challenge, however I am not sure if he ever experienced it himself. It is nearly impossible to keep the water from over shooting the tub and getting on either the floor or wall. The plastic which has been tacked to the wall to keep the water from the floor makes getting into the tub dangerous.
The bed was comfortable enough, however the bedsheets had what appeared to blood stains. Had me wife not brought along her sleepsac it would have been more of an issue.
The lock to the front door was also a bit of a challenge and we were approached by Michael to inform us we had left it unlocked one day(as a former VRBO owner it would seem a minor investment in a more suitable lock would better serve both the renter and landlord)
Although parking is readily available on the street , Michael was a bit overzealous in his negative commentary regarding our parking.
When we rented our house we did everything we could to be sure that our renters had a positive experience. I am sorry to say I cannot say the same about our experience here.
We were under the impression that their stay was fine because they did not mention any of this to us. We do our best to make our guests feel comfortable, and ask them to let us know if there is anything that needs attention. We describe and post a photo of our tub/shower in our description of the room. When we were remodeling our downstairs we stayed in the guest room for several months and used the tub/shower so we are quite familiar with it. As far as "blood on the sheets" goes, we're talking about an old fading stain about half the size of your pinky's fingernail. Of course, the sheets were freshly washed. We never have people use stuff that we wouldn't use ourselves. This could have been easily handled if we had known about it. We have since replaced the sheets with new ones. Parking. We have neighbors who park their cars in front of their houses, and we like to be considerate of them. Our house sits on a double lot & we have more than adequate parking space on our side of the street. We request that our guests park in front of our yard. The last item was locking the door. We ask folks to lock the door going in & out for common-sense security. We found the door unlocked & mentioned it. This should not have been an issue. Perhaps this couple might have been happier staying in a downtown hotel for $350 per night.
It was very clean, organized and accommodating!
The homeowners were friendly and helpful. They were willing to give us recommendations for the area, but not nosy or too involved. Great house, great place to stay! Close to really anywhere you could want to go in the city.
Thank you for the positive review. You are welcome back here anytime.
Great spot in East Nashville. Loved it!
Nell and Michael were excellent hosts and opened their beautiful home to me. Loved the Music City and the veteran musicians has inspiration and tips for those of us looking to explore this amazing city.
Thanks Dan for the wonderful review! Please come back. Nell and Michael
Coffee houses, restaurants, boutique shopping, art galleries, a large park, health food and regular grocery store all within walking distance of our house. Our closest restaurants are one block from the house as is the bus line. Walking neighborhood with sidewalks and many beautiful historic homes. 5 Points and Walden areas with many amenities are 5-6 blocks from our house. You can rent a bicycle in 5 Points. We are about 2.5 miles from downtown Nashville. Guests often use Lyft and Uber for transportation. It's around $8 from here to downtown -- cheaper than parking.
