About Christine Giovannetti Warwick
John and Christine Warwick. He is British, she is French/Italian. We both fell in love with Crete, the island, the weather, the locals and their Cretan hospitality. We had visited many other European Countries but never felt as comfortable and at ease as in this part of Western Crete. We had been looking for somewhere to buy and to share with our friends and extended family so when the opportunity arose we had no hesitation. We want our visitors to share the enjoyment we have experienced in this part of Crete and will endeavour to give you as much information as possible to ensure you a wonderful holiday.
Christine Giovannetti Warwick purchased this Villa in 2008

Precise google earth coordinates 35.418484,24.123226. I fell in love with the island the first time I came to visit and this triggered our desire to buy a property there. I am myself Italian and French & Crete reminded me of both Cote d'Azur & Toscana before these places were spoiled by overbuilding and mass tourism. Western Crete is considered the most traditional part of Crete. We are within easy reach from the wonderful old Venetian town of Chania as well as Rethymno with its Turkish legacy. The nearest beaches are only 10mins drive away. Our favourite because its so quiet & has lovely golden sand is located on the western side of Kalyves. When we desire a busier atmosphere and the commercial bars and tavernas we frequent the beaches in the Centre of Kalyves. Our local village of Stylos though is a must to visit & enjoy traditional Crete. Precise google earth coordinates 35.418484,24.123226
What makes this Villa unique
We called our villa Petra because it is stone built. Unlike Plaka, Almerida or Kokkinorio, in this hill-top exclusive location there are only 4 properties including ours and they sit wide apart in their respective plot of land ranging from 1500 - 4000sq.m. In front of the property you have an uninterrupted view right to the bay of Souda. And from November to often until end of April, the mountains in the back offer a stunning view with its white snow caps. Should you be sun-bathing at Easter in one of the loungers in the swimming pool area, you would then have the privilege to admire in one glance the snow capped mountains to the rear and to the front the blue sea in the bay of Souda. WOW ! We just love the location. Its idyllic and exclusive, set in unspoilt countryside.

Fabulous villa in a truelly great location
Just back from two weeks at Villa Petra 11.08.18 - 25.08.18 and the accommodation was wonderful and if planning a trip back to Crete I would defiantly book this location again . Do not let the previous reviews regarding the road up to the villa put you off as the surface has been upgraded and now has a concreate base, which Christine reassured us was going to be done before we arrived. At the first attempt it is a bit daunting but once you have reached the Villa it is well worth the trip up and you could never get tired of the views across the valley and into Suda Bay. The accommodation was very comfortable with quality beds which gave our party a very relaxing nights sleep . It was also wonderful to sit on the balcony in the morning with a fresh cup of coffee and in the evening with something a little stronger and again take in the amazing views and the star filled sky at night .The accommodation has all the facilities you could need and a very clean infinity pool which tops up by itself each day.
We also took John up on the car hire and the whole experience was seamless from picking up at Chania airport and dropping off again.
Thanks again the Webster family
Thank you for your review. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at Villa Petra as well this part of Crete. it is as you said, truly wonderful. We look forward to welcoming you again at some time in the future. Crete is like a magnet.
Sincerely John and Christine

Beautifully located in the mountains close to the sea with spectacular views and birds singing. Comfty and spacious with easy reach to nearby tourists sights .
So happy you enjoyed your stay at Villa Petra. Thank you for your review. We sincerely hope you will return to enjoy this perfect holiday region of western Crete plus the tranquility of living with the Greek Gods at Villa Petra !
Fantastic villa in a lovely location
We had a brilliant, totally relaxing week in the 2nd week of October. Very comfortable villa that had everything we needed. Great location with both sea and mountain views close to Kalives and Chania. Loved the area and will be back.
Amazing Villa - Amazing Views of Mountains and Coast
We spent two weeks in Villa Petra in late September. The villa has the most amazing hilltop views. It is well furnished and has everything you'd possibly require on holiday. The pool is very clean - a bit cold in September but refreshing nonetheless. Outdoor space is excellent - BBQ and outdoor kitchen, sun beds for 6, outdoor dining area and lots of little sun traps.
The drive to the villa from the National road is lovely, passing through three villages which have shops, tavernas, etc. The last drive up the hill to the villa is rather hair-raising - but well worth the bumpy, twisting road over a few minutes to reach the top. Very private area with only 3 other villas nearby.
This is a beautiful part of Crete - near Chania and Rethymno as well as villages such as Kalyves and Almerida. Great base to visit all parts of western Crete.
We will definitely return and are very happy to recommend the villa to others.
Wonderful Villa with fantastic views.
We had a lovely holiday at the villa which was everything it promised to be. The views were sensational and the pool and outdoor kitchen were frequently used as we sat outdoors as the sun went down. The only difficulty we experienced was the track to the villa which we found our hire car could not cope with so it had to be left parked until we left. This may have been because it was a 6 seater. Local taxis would not come up to the villa so we walked up and down from the bottom of the track. However, neighbours with smaller cars were managing the hill so the best car to use may be worth checking this with the owners as the villa and its location are so fabulous and shouldn't be missed.
In Chania we went on a boat trip and snorkelling with Nicks Boat trips which was a fabulous day out and to be recommended.
The rating of 4 stars is simply because of the road and would have been a five.
Thankyou for your review. Glad to hear you and your family enjoyed your stay at Villa Petra. Yes the views really are wonderful, sea, vast countryside and mountains! In spring you will also see snow on the mountain tops whilst sunning yourself by the swimming pool. The choice of car is important in Crete, the minor roads are notoriously less than perfect! We will in future suggest guests book a car through our local car hire partner who has the experience and knowledge of local minor roads and they will be able to recommend cars to hire which are well suited for the terrain of country roads in Crete. Thank you again for booking your holiday with us and your helpful comments.
Our holiday was wonderful and relaxing. The villa was superb and the location and views amazing. Chaina was a beautiful traditional town with lots to see and do. We hired a car and travelled the island including visiting ruins and very old churches. Loved Crete!
Thank you for your review. So happy you enjoyed your stay at Villa Petra. We look forward to hosting you again. I'm sure you will be back to this part of Crete. A holiday with the Greek Gods !

Kalyves - 10 mins.
Almerida - 12 mins.
Kokkino Chorio - 15 mins.
Chania (Venetian Harbour) 30 mins.
2min Drive into the traditional village of Stylos are small shops for everyday provisions and local tavernas. The busier beachfront and village of Kalives (10mins away) the nearest "largest" town has chemist, bakery, veg shops (which also sell the local red and white village wines!), banks, post office, numerous tavernas and cafes, mini-markets and two small beaches. Vamos - Health Centre, Tavernas and ATM. Chania (30 mins away) - (a bustling Venetian harbour) - Scuba diving, boat trips, water slide park, Saturday morning market, banks and much, much more. Chania, once the capital of ancient Crete, offers quaint, narrow streets as well as a beautiful harbour lined with tavernas and cafes serving excellent local cuisine. Further afield, a water park at Limnoupolis, the biggest karting track in Crete, opportunities for boat trips from the harbour at Chania and historical sights such as the World War 2 Allied and German cemeteries.
For those who enjoy walking a visit to the Samaria Gorge is recommended, which meanders for 18km down a tortuous trail to the pretty resort of Agia Roumeli. Also the natural freshwater lake of Kournas provides a picturesque venue for lunch or a swim. There is so much to see on this beautiful island of Crete. Too much for one holiday!
