About Gerard van Herrewegen
We are a retired couple and live in Holland. We have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. See the picture (2001- 2007)! In the last years we spent a part of our wintertime in Portugal because of the magnificent climate and have more than 40 years experience in this country. We are golfers and the Algarve has a lot of courses that we like.
Gerard van Herrewegen purchased this Villa in 2004
Why Gerard van Herrewegen chose Estômbar
The new build villa Casa Alha was finished in 2004. We are fond of Sesmarias Country Club because of the quiet neighbourhood, the perfect facilities in the area, the beautiful beaches, the wonderful golf courses and a great range of restaurants. A few kilometers from the coast you meet a lot of examples of the remains of human presence since prehistoric times ( roman, moors etc.). Sesmarias is easily accessible with Faro airport (60 km).
What makes this Villa unique
The villa Casa Alha has a luxury comfort. The facilities are of a high quality like pool, a small playground, parking on the property, some toys for little children, a large covered terrace, terraces around the pool with sunbeds with beach towels and a bright view to the ocean and the Monchique mountains.

Lovely villa in a great location
The villa is well equipped and a great size for two families of four. We really enjoyed the facilities and the location.
It is our purpose that our guests enjoy the villa and the facilities,
It is a pleasure to hear that we are successfull.
Lovely location and villa with a view
We had a lovely holiday in this villa which is fully equipped to fulfil your needs right down to a bottle opener. The local agent David was wonderful, meeting us ahead of check in and providing not only information but a very appreciated welcome pack of essentials. David was on hand all the time to assist and did so discreetly. The pool is great although prone to filling with leaves due to the heavy but beautiful planting around but clearing it daily became part of the experience for us. Location is good for all amenities and a little gem was Luisas resteraunt which is a 15 minute walk from the villa and serves fresh and delicious food and also does take away, well worth a visit. We spent 10 days in the villa and enjoyed each one. Although quite central, the villa is very tranquil and the view of the sea and mountains let us enjoy glorious sunsets .
It is pretty that our guests are more than satisfied, not only about the villa Casa Alha, but also about the services, the surrounding and the facilities.
Peaceful and beautiful
A very nice stay in a beautiful part of Portugal. Minutes from the coastline and beaches.
Great place to stay, will be returning in the future
It is a pleasure to receive this message; you are welcome in the future sometimes in Casa Alha.
This home was our castle.
We spend a wonderful time in a magnificent villa in a quiet area with surprising vieuws of the ocean, the city of Portimão and the mountains of Monchique.
The villa Casa Alha is well equipted, the pool is nice and the surrounding garden offers privacy.

Maria van de Kimmenade.
The villa is in excellent condition, very clean and well-maintained. It is situated in a small and calm lovely village. The customer service couldn´t be better. We like to cook and found a best equipped kitchen. We would recommend this property to a friend or relative. And we would certainly like to come back soon.
The review speaks for oneself; nothing to add. When guests come back, they are welcome.

Car hire is recommended.
Carvoeiro is beautiful, especially when viewed from the hills on either side of the town. It is layered with whitewashed villas and buildings, which seem to undulate in harmony with the natural rocky landscape. The beach is small but ample and is fringed with seaside cafes and restaurants and still home to local fishermen whose boats complete the picture-postcard scene. It is quite a commercialised town, but it’s an excellent base for touring and exploring the region.
There are four lovely sandy beaches for swimming or lazing in the sun around Carvoeiro, and other beautiful unspoilt beaches such as Benagil and Marinha are also close by. There are ample shops, a pharmacy, banks, doctor’s clinic, butchers, bakers and newsagents, and good restaurants and bars abound, for all tastes and pockets. There are 3 golf courses in Carvoeiro, with a short 9 hole. Carvoeiro is just 45 minutes from Faro Airport.
The fishing village of Ferragudo is one of the most picturesque places of the Algarve. It’s situated at the Rio Arade estuary, opposite the busy harbour city of Portimão and the nightlife hotspot of Praia da Rocha. At low tide the fishing boats lie scattered on the dry sand. The winding small alleys and crooked stairs everywhere give you a real impression of the original Algarve. You won’t find any ugly concrete high-rise structures or anonymous hotel complexes, but nicely build luxurious villas, cosy apartments and well designed resorts.
Living here means taking everything easy. In front of the tiny whitewashed houses, frequently decorated with flowers, you can observe women doing their laundry. Around lunchtime you will smell sardines being grilled in the streets. The people are always friendly and ready to help, especially if you try to speak some Portuguese. It looks like time has passed by unnoticed.
In the small market, a popular meeting point for the older locals, you can buy fresh fish, seafood and vegetables.
