Samaria is well worth a visit and there is a lovely beach when you get to the end of the gorge. If you prefer a slightly shorter gorge walk the Omros Gorge is about half the distance

A very good call regarding Imros Gorge. It is a fantastic walk and much quieter than Samaria. I would recommend walking up and having a well earned Skafian Pie (pancake, honey and soft cheese) at the cafe terrace with glorious views at the top John Owner

As we are in the countryside it is recommended to take a George however the sky at night is so clear that when there is a full moon you can enjoy beautiful moonlit walks with moon shadows almost as bright as day

A great review which picks out many of the key points about the holiday experience at the villa. One point I might respond to is that we have had many teenagers staying at the villa including ours and they have had some great (and not very quiet!) times out.

There should have been 8 sun beds at the villa so we will look into that and ensure that any missing sunbeds are returned. Thanks very much to this guest who has really been able to bring out all the good points about the villa and the surrounding areas

Thanks for your review Brenda. For 2020, we will have fitted a dishwasher! As a guide, kitchens in villas in Crete are typically on the small side to maximise the available living space as we are limited by planning regulations. As you know, the kitchen in Villa Angelos is open plan to be sociable with the living room area and there is plenty of space on the island unit for prepping food.

Hi Lone. I have to disagree with your comment about our villa not being walking distance to the sea or the village and our other guests will agree with me. It takes less than 15 minutes to walk to the centre of the village of Gavalochory (Monica's Taverna) and about half an hour to 35 minutes to Almyrida! From your villa to the Dimitra Hotel in Almyrida is your villa is precisely 2 km away!

Hello Frances and thank you for your comments. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay and I will take a moment to address you comments on the aircon. First of all, as you know, each bedroom besides an airconditioning unit also has a powerful ceiling fan. These fans are not on timers, and provide a variable speed cooling downdraft which 95% of our customers are happy with even in the hottest months. We introduced the aircon timers as part of our responsible eco-friendly philosophy. You can use the aircon units at night as long as you wish, there is no restriction on how many times you can operate them. Most people set the aircon before they go to sleep and use the fans on full power overnight which then recirculates the cool air. This has the advantage of avoiding the big problem with airconditioning i.e. waking up suffering from an uncomfortably dry nose and throat - this is a common complaint if the aircon is used without a break overnight (you will find some holiday establishments in Greece will shut off the aircon entirely in the early hours and you have no control whatsoever - unlike ours). Also, you don't need to keep the doors closed in your bedroom - the large upstairs window at the top of the stairs has a slide opening with mosquito net and if you open this fully while locking back your bedroom door (using the hook & eye latch provided) there will be a cooling through draft from the ceiling fan to the window, even if the aircon is turned off. Our mix of aircon and ceiling fans works for 95 % of our customers, the majority of whom return year after year."

Thanks for the lovely review. The pool was brand new last year (!) though the surrounding outdoor patio tiles are from when the house was originally built. We chose these tiles ourselves and they are standard issue around many pools in other villas, designed to be used around wet areas so are designed to have non-slip characteristics. However, as with any pool, it is important not to run, though having had children of our own at the same age as yours, we do understand it can be difficult at times! This is why we designed all our pools with gates - perfect for promoting child safety. Our other pool at Villa Selene nearby has natural stone paving around the pool and this may be more suited to your next visit. See property 8049260.

Thanks for your review! We agree that the location of the villa is just about as perfect as you can get - a short 15 minute walk from the lovely traditional village of Gavalochory where you can get a loaf of fresh bread from the bakery every day for under a euro, and just 3 minutes drive to the beach, bars and restaurants at Almyrida. There is an excellent restaurant up in the mountains at Dracona - video and directions are on our Facebook page (just search for 'Saint Basil Olive Grove') with live Cretan music every Saturday lunchtime. Next time you visit, you'll see we have added lot of colour around the outside of the house with decorated and painted 'found' objects from around the olive grove - 'countryside art' at its best!

Thanks for your kind words. We are pleased you have discovered the joys of our olive grove and the great pool and views. Because it is a tiled concrete pool with thick construction walls, it seems to retain the heat and stays warmer than plastic lined pools. You will also have noticed the very individual 'olive grove art' which decorates the porch made of natural items we have found in the olive grove and painted bright colours! Hopefully you will return and see how we have progressed!
