Just got back yesterday. We had an amazing time. Just off the beaten track but with 3 lovely local tavernas to choose from if you don’t want to drive. Amazing views and the villa is absolutely immaculate! Everything we wanted and more. We highly recommend this villa, one of the best we’ve stayed in! Lovely friendly people you just can’t go wrong 😀👌
Lovely character property with homely feel
We have just returned from a wonderful weeks' break in 1891 Home. The sensitively modernised property has a homely feel and plenty of space to relax in. The terrace and pool areas are outstanding and a great place to while away the day. The extra effort made to supply provisions, including home made items was really appreciated and they tasted great! Alexandra the host was very welcoming and easy to communicate with and made every effort to make our stay comfortable. We thoroughly recommend it.
The 1891 home is the reason not to stay in hotels. My wife and I stayed at this house on our honeymoon and it was everything we could have asked for: i) An Exceptional and Communicative Hostess who anticipated all our our needs before we did; ii) a quaint little authentic Greek town straight from what you may imagine; and iii) just far enough on the beaten path to be relaxed and non-touristy, but close enough to access so many of the great things to do on Crete. We had an amazing time. Thank you, Alexandra (the owner/hostess)!
Thanks for your kind words Angie and Tom! I also want to thank you for taking such good care of the house, not much left for us to do...!!
I wish you have a happy and prosperous life together with lots of travels and moments to be remembered.
Hope to see you again!!!
We've just spent a wonderful 10 days at Alexandra's home in Kefalas - and make no mistake, this is a home and a fabulous one at that! Alexandra was a perfect host and is hugely passionate about the house that has been in her family since 1891. It really was a privilege to have been able to stay there. Kefalas itself is a pretty little village, not at all touristy and somewhere you can really get away from everything. It's got a couple of Tavernas if you can't be bothered to drive, and there are lots of villages within 2-3 kms that all have lovely places to eat. It's a great base from which to explore the white mountains inland and Chania and Rethymnon on the coast. What a find - we'll be back we hope!
Charming villa in small village.
From the moment we arrived until we departed two weeks later we experienced the warmth and kindness of our lovely host family Alexia and her husband Savas. From here we travelled around the island taking in its majestic snow capped white mountains and the small seaside towns and of course visited some outstanding wineries. Sheep grazing in the field nearby with their bells clanging made it all the more perfect. We ate at a couple of the local tavernas and found them quite good as was the service. Cretans are very friendly people. It truly was special and can’t recommend it enough!!
Wonderfully renovated old stone house with beautiful pool and garden
1891 home is an old stone house that was beautifully renovated and very tastefully decorated. The views of the sea are stunning - the minute you come in the door and also from the patio, garden and roof terrace, which are all excellent and beautiful spots to relax in. We particularly enjoyed the patio, the lounging chairs around the wonderful infinity pool (with a separate shallow area for little children), and the landscaping and garden around and below the pool. It has all been very well layed out and grown in. I imagine that we would have spend even more time there if we had stayed during the summer season. We were at 1891 home in October with our three children aged 11,9 and 3 and the weather was a bit cool at times for going swimming in the pool. We did go to the beaches however and particularly enjoyed the long wide sandy beach around Georgioupoli (20 minutes) and beyond where you can find quite lonely spots. The local Octopus bay was stunning, too: it is rocky and too rough to swim in when windy but the colors and the surf were amazing to watch. And we also had it pretty much to ourselves.
Alexandra was a great host and welcomed us to the house with a well stocked kitchen including a homemade cake and cookies and some wine that all disappeared very quickly. The house itself was immaculate and included all amenities that we needed.
All in all 1891 home is a wonderful vacation spot.
Thank you for choosing 1891 home for your October vacations!
We are really happy you and your family enjoyed your stay and all that the house has to offer. It was our pleasure to make you feel welcome and give you a slight idea of the famous Cretan hospitality.
I wish you all the best and hope you will come back in the summer to enjoy our infinity pool more.
All the best to you, Russell and the children
