We bought The Grain Store just before Christmas in 2014 as a place to spend some quality family time and share with guests, friends and family all the benefits that Stancombe and the South Hams bring. The facilities on the Stancombe estate mean it has something to offer all year round and its location means you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside on the estate but be only a short drive from the water, beaches and nearby towns.

An excellent holiday rental - but with reservations if you are bringing a dog.
This is a lovely property, very comfortable and well equipped. The facilities available in the complex are excellent. The downside for us was that the only private outside space is right beside the road and although it is only a narrow, quiet, country road, it does have the occasional car passing by, sometimes quite fast, making it not possible for us to leave the door open for our dog to go in and out. This would not be a problem for visitors without small children or a dog - although the outside space does miss the evening sun, which is a shame. There are extensive grounds to enjoy, but it's a bit of a trek to follow the sun with your gin and tonic! We loved the immediate access to the games room, which is extremely well equipped and the swimming pool and tennis court were put to full use. The property is beautifully decorated and made an excellent base from which to visit this lovely area. We found the owners very helpful in replying to queries and delightful to meet when they came by to drop off some bits and pieces. Altogether an excellent holiday rental - unless you have a dog or small children.
Lovely chilled break
We stayed here with 2 other couples and 2 dogs and it was exactly what we were after. We also used the snooker room and pool and both were fab! Tom and Roz were very helpful. We also bumped into the groundskeeper was also very helpful and suggested a trip down to hope cove which was beautiful. We had everything we needed in the house and could not of asked for more.
The property is fabulous. Very well maintained and would be wonderful for families as there is so much for kids to do. Spotlessly clean and spacious with modern and tastefull furnishings. It is remote even by Devon standards but that adds to its charm. The only drawback was lack of wifi. We can live without cell phone service due to What's app and wifi calling but the wifi was so intermittent and weak that if was effectively non existent, which was a problem for 2 of us who are self-employed. However wifi is easily found in surrounding pubs and coffee shops so it was not critical. For those looking for a true get away Stancombe can't be beat and we certainly would book again.

With regard to the WiFi, we unfortunately cannot get hard wire broadband as the local telephone exchange is at capacity so new lines possible, we have installed an antenna with a 4G sim however and this has been delivering good speeds for general internet use to date. We are sorry this was not the case when you were there and will investigate this with the engineer and check if there any issues with the set up and anything we can do to improve the reception. This was not just high quality and great space. The woodworking and carpentry was magnificent, kitchen and equipment first class. The mezzanine is a great feature, all betting was tops quality, just superb. We had a great birthday group ! Thanks Tom & Roz for also keeping tabs on everything. Phil & Maria Helena
Fabulous family break
Had an absolutely fantastic time beautiful accommodation and great facilities. .brilliant family break ..could really recommend it
Torcross and Slapton are the nearest beaches on the A381 about 10 mins by car and Blackpool sands about 20 mins. They are shingle beaches, whilst the sandy beaches of East Portlemouth, (opposite Salcombe) North and South Sands, Hope Cove, Thurlestone, Bantham and Bigbury are about 30 mins by car.
The nearest airports are located in Exeter and Plymouth. Totnes is the nearest railway station.
10 minute drive to Kingsbridge, 20 minute drive to Salcombe and Dartmouth.
Excellent Bakery in Frogmore (5 mins away) and an additional very well provisioned local shop in East Allington (7 mins away)
Large Tescos and Morrisons in Kingsbridge (10 mins away) which also has excellent restaurants, bars, delis and numerous independent shops and banks to be explored. There is also a great cinema.
