When we arrived the cottage stank of dogs. The owners changed the throws that were over the sofas and also removed the rugs and by the second day the smell had much improved. Unfortunately we couldn't keep the patio doors open as the concrete patio was so saturated with dog urine it smelled like a dog rescue centre and the smell blew into the rental making us feel quite sick. We were tempted to leave after the first night but the smell improved after a rain shower, however we still couldn't open the door as there was a plague of flies. The accommodation is very basic which was disappointing - the minimum quality of everything, very soft and unsupporting mattresses, thin pillows and cushions, pillow protectors (good they had them) were like paper and horrible to sleep with, gas oven that filled the accommodation with the smell of gas when used, no dressing table or even a shelf to store your stuff on in the bedrooms, no plug points by the bed, no bedside lights - things that would have improved our stay but not included in the planning stage. However, the place was quite clean and the shower water pressure pretty good, the toilet flushed correctly, fridge ok. The owners were helpful and allowed me to bring my cat. However, they run dog training classes on site which meant at times there was a cacophony of barking which was so loud we had to shut the windows and turn the TV volume right up. If I had known they did this I would not have booked.
