Peaceful Mountain Retreat on Walker Creek

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type house

About the property

Great family getaway, close to Virginia Tech, Appalachian Trail, Cascades

There is something about a clear mountain creek that brings back memories of simpler days and reminds us of the timeless joys that can be found in ordinary moments- wading barefoot into the cool water, skipping rocks, learning how to fly fish, tubing downstream on a sunny day, or swapping stories on the porch over a cup of coffee. Scenic Walker Creek, the largest tributary to the New River in Virginia, is a wide creek that winds through forests, pastures, and mountains on its journey to join the river.

Walker Creek Crossing offers all the modern amenities to make your stay comfortable as well as the enduring charm of a country retreat. The spacious kitchen and dining room overlook the water and are designed for sharing meals with friends and family. Downstairs, the game room is a favorite gathering place. Walker Creek Crossing is a short drive from the Appalachian Trail, Cascade Falls, birding trails, and some prime spots for canoeing and kayaking. At just twenty-five minutes from Radford and Blacksburg, guests can enjoy a peaceful escape to the quiet countryside while still having all the convenience of nearby dining, shopping and activities.

Walker Creek Crossing is a great place to get together and return to the simple joys that turn ordinary moments into extraordinary memories.

Friendly pets will be considered for an additional fee.

The home was very clean, the beds were super comfy, and the kitchen was well stocked. Owners were very helpful and responsive, too. We will definitely be back. Thank you, Megan!

Walker's Creek Crossing

  • 5 of 5

The house and location were great, we had a wonderful time.

My frustration was getting checked in- one area said 3 pm, another said 4 pm, but it ended up being 5:15 because we were not given the code to lock box. Called the emergency number which was listed on the lock box, but this house is not listed with that company anymore. All other numbers mailboxes were full, could not leave a message, had to drive a mile away to get phone signal to call until Megan finally answered. Considering we had to pay a $75 dollar service fee it would have been nice to be able to get hold of someone.

And I have stayed with Home Away many times all across the US, this is the first house I had to pay $100 cleaning fee, and still had to wash dishes and put away, empty trash, and strip beds and carry linen to laundry room.

Great Family Vacation Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed quiet, relaxing, and peaceful stay while canoeing, kayaking, rafting, fishing, and exploring the caves on Walker Creek. Saw the two monsters of the creek under the bridge (15 pound grass carp). Also got in 4 days/3 nights of hiking and camping on the AT and visited Dismal, Cascade, and Mill Creek falls. Attended the Sheffey Memorial Church across the road. Residents of the area are very friendly.

The cabin pinball machine provided a great diversion on rainy days.

Lighting in the cabin is very dim, which could be improved with brighter light bulbs. Adjusting the thermostat to keep the upstairs temperature from being too hot, made the downstairs temperature freezing cold.
