About Dave McKay
I have always enjoyed freedom and the outdoors and adventure starts in this part of Utah
Dave McKay purchased this House in 2011
Why Dave McKay chose Thompson
This property is for those who want peace, quiet and lots of freedom. The best dinosaur tracks in the world are a nice little 11 mile ride to the south. 4500 year old Indian paintings are just 3 miles north of town. A lot of wildlife passes through the little town, including herds of antelope and deer. Black bear has been spotted in town and there is a herd of buffalo in the nearby Book Cliffs. Moab is just 30 miles to the south , so if you get lonely for heavy traffic and lots of people, it's a relatively short drive.
What makes this House unique
This property is surrounded by hundreds of miles of ATV trails that can be accessed from the front door . In 2012 myself and 8 others rode our ATVs from the front door to Arizona (504 miles one way ) and never crossed private property. In 2014 we rode ATVS from the front door to Wyoming ( 384miles one way)
Sports & Adventure Activities
Very nice place! Lots of room and very clean.
What a deal! Plenty of room and very nice and clean. Just like described or better. Watched the Antelopes out the window. Well equipped and nicely appointed.
Great place for a visit to Moab area
This was a nice house for our trip to Moab to visit the natural parks. It was fully stocked with everything we needed, and had 3 comfortable beds. The house was very clean, and in good condition. We’ll definitely stay here again.
We had a great stay. It was very roomy and super clean. We would stay here again.
Quiet location in a "ghost" town. 30 min from Arches
We stayed here for our time in Arches and Canyonlands. The house is clean, well maintained and in a quiet location. It was very spacious and comfortable for our family of 5. It is in a ghost town so the surroundings are run down but not in a bad way. The only store in town is a 7 Eleven connected to the gas station so be sure to do your shopping elsewhere (we shopped at City Market in Moab after our day in Arches). It was about 30 minutes to Arches which was reasonable for us. There are trains that come through during the night and blow their horns as they pass but it is not consistent from night to night. We enjoyed seeing the antelope grazing out in the field behind the house and running up through the driveway. Wished we could have taken advantage of the back patio but the bugs overtook us. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again if we are ever back in this area.
This place was perfect for my family of four. We were about 30 minutes from the parks and loved coming home to a clean, well decorated, well stocked house. Beds were very comfortable and bathrooms had everything we needed. Yes, we were close to the train tracks but it never bothered us. Checking out the ghost town area was fun and we found a hidden gem just beyond the town, petroglyphs. We saw antalope walking outside the house in the evening, this was an added pleasure. Loved the photos on the wall with the history of the town. Great place to stay, thank you.
Excellent in Every Way!
We completely enjoyed our stay at The Thompson House. The home is spacious, very beautifully decorated, comfortable, and impeccably clean. The home is conveniently located near several National and State parks. Quiet and peaceful location. Not conveniently located to shopping and restaurants, keep that in mind if that is important to you. Moab is about a half hour drive and has all the food and shopping you need. This house is so awesome....we LOVED it!
Historic Ghost town of Thompson Springs Utah that is 30 miles north of Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Moab Utah is 31 miles to the south.
