Remote, idyllic spot to escape from the city. Ideal for a family or a group of friends who enjoy nature, walking, birdwatching or cycling.
The Blue Parrot is spacious, bright and homely. You have a big living room with views of the River, a dining area, a big front garden just next to the riverfront, and a smaller back garden, which looks onto Bawdsey Manor.
You can enjoy walks on the beach, or follow one of the many walking trails that start near the house. (Please see photo attached). Bawdsey Manor is an amazing building that you can see from the beach or from the back garden of the house. Woodbrigde is 12 miles away and is a nice, charming town, where you can enjoy going to a restaurant or a cafe, or do some shopping.
Please note that you will need a car to move around easily, or you can just relax, go for walks in the countryside or cycle. :) There is a village shop and friendly pub in Alderton, 3 miles from the house. It might be a good idea to bring your own supplies depending on how long you are intending to stay. If during your stay you feel like going into town, Woodbridge is a great option; it has a full range of amenities and is 12 miles (a 20-minute drive) away. From April to October you can also cross over to Felixstowe by a passenger ferry. (see photo attached for timetable)

We really enjoyed the location, and the house is perfect size for a small family. Once the house was warm (we wouldn't dare try make a fir - we have no clue how!) we really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you
The property is in a beautiful location, with plenty of space, natural light and fantastic views over the estuary. Kitchen is fairly well equipped but some of the crockery, glasses and utensils needed washing before use. General cleanliness wasn't great but the bed linen was clean and seating was comfortable. Large lounge diner was good for family use. This is a great place to escape to enjoy wildlife and botany.
Great for families, bigger living room than it looks on the photos. Good to have the bath and loo in different rooms. Very relaxing place and super to have a real fire. Small but useful kitchen. The settting is lovely. Thanks very much. Glad to make it after the 2020 covid fiasco.

Adjustments need making
Windows needed cleaning. Toilet takes too long to fill after flushing. Kitchen cabinet door fell off. No where to put our food away.nNeeds new shower. Porch needs cleaning and some windows are not clear even when clean. However, the location is superb

Wonderful location
A beautiful location and good sized house with fabulous views and access to the beach.
There were some errors in communication, most notable no communication between the owner and the lady who prepared the property so she didn't expect us but luckily this didn't affect us much. Also the shower doesn't work and the attachment to the taps provided is not an adequate solution.
The location is fantastic, the views are wonderful, the house is spacious enough for a family, the WiFi was not only unexpected but good, having supplies like washing up liquid and household cleaners was excellent, the towels were huge and there was plenty of hot water. We really enjoyed our stay and, providing the shower is fixed, we would love to return!
The house is in a fantastic location and it is easy to get the ferry over the river and then lovely walk along the coast to Felixstowe. The house is basic but clean and comfortable with everything you need. Would definitely come again although check in at 5pm and check out at 9am is a bit harsh as it cuts down the stay by almost a day at each end!.
This property is a chance to experience peace and quiet. It is at least twelve miles from a supermarket, though there is a small village shop about three miles away. The views are breathtaking. It's a good spot for walking, but otherwise you need to make your own amusements. The house itself has a faded charm.
Nice to stay somewhere that hasn't been modernise. The shower wasn't easy to control and the toilet took ages to fill. Well equipped and it felt homely.
We had a lovely break but there's a difference between a vintage vibe and neglect, and unfortunately this house is in danger of falling into the latter camp. No concerns about cleanliness inside but it desperately needs a plumber and a gardener, and the kitchen cupboards are in dire need of a clear out. We would say that at the moment it is not suitable for children under 12 (thistles and nettles in the garden, stereo system on the floor, and dangerously stacked bedside cabinets in the third bedroom). It's a shame because the house is roomy and well laid out, the view is wonderful, and the setting is great for a peaceful and relaxed stay.

Let down!
Lovely position on Deben estuary and great views from front of house(rear felt derelict). House was dated, say 1950’s, and felt hardly updated. Needs a lot of care and attention to detail. Windows not cleaned for ages, bathroom needs a good clean. Furniture and fittings worn and shabby, this would appeal to some maybe and the house had all the facilities needed so not all bad and very peaceful.
The Blue Parrot is the perfect place for a few days away. Location is absolutely sublime - literally paces away from the river beach and less than 5 minutes from the foot ferry to Felixstowe Ferry.
The cottage has everything you’ll need and is perfectly comfortable. Descriptions are accurate and communication with the hosts was very straightforward.
Suited our requirements perfectly and we’d have no qualms about a return visit.
Thank you. 😊
We had a positive experience from start to finish the owners were available and helpful throughout The cottage was cosy and very well eqipped the beds very comfy
The location was perfect the views fantastic we certainly would recommend it and hope to return in the future
La maison contient tout ce qui est nécessaire pour 6 personnes. Idéal pour le calme et le repos. Un peu loin de tout mais nous le savions avant. La region est superbe, les villes autour également. Nous conseillons cette location.
Definitely a remote spot with a great view from bed and sofa! The property itself felt a bit dated and the garden is in need of some TLC but for a location it could not be faulted with a sandy beach on the doorstep and great views from bed and sofa. The coastal path however is closed and you cannot get past so walking far from the door is not straightforward unless you follow the road.

Fantastic long week, comfortable and warm house, excellent away-from-it-all location
We had a great time, the house was warm and cosy, modern kitchen, plenty of space for the 6 of us and the view from the lounge was amazing. Excellent for walks along the coast, visiting local attractions or just peering out at the boats on the river. Definitely quiet and peaceful. Made an ideal half term break, would consider coming again.

About the host
Hosted by Tim
The Blue Parrot has been the holiday home for Tim's family in the last 15 years. We always lived in Yorkshire, but often came here to spend the weekends or some weeks in the summer, enjoying the good weather and the sea.
We still come from time to time, now all the kids have grown up and the grandchildren can enjoy the house, but we like the idea of having other families and groups of friends to stay when we are not around.
What makes this property unique
The best thing about the Blue Parrot is escaping the everyday routine, being away from the noise, the traffic, work... and just spend a few days going for walks, birdwatching or playing some boardgames by the fire.
