Great place to stay for the price!

  • 4 of 5

This large house was a great place for our family to spend Christmas. The great room with several couches was a wonderful place to gather and the host had put up a beautiful tall Christmas tree for us to enjoy. He was very accommodating and helpful during our stay. That being said I would not describe the place as luxurious. The dishwasher is nonfunctional and the place was not super clean. The basement is very poorly lit. However, overall we enjoyed our stay and it is a super good value.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I have fixed the dishwasher and have replaced the lights down stairs in the basement. I am also adding reading lamps into the bedroom for people that like to read as yourselves. This home has been rated the number one home in Riverkern by the local residents. I have only had my lodge listed for a just over a year now. I am constantly doing upgrades and refinements trying to make this lodge the best that I can. And to make this lodge special to create fond memories for my guests. Prior to your stay I replaced my water heater with a top of the line tankless water heater. As far as being clean. All our beds are fresh for our guests, extra bed sheets and linens are in the closet, extra clean towels are also in the closet, the bathrooms are scrubbed down, the carpets are vacuumed, the kitchen is cleaned, the refrigerator is cleaned, and the floors are always mopped prior to every stay. Thank you, for staying in my lodge, Joe

clean, specious and funrnished

This property is exactly as shown in the pics. Owner is friendly answered all our questions in advance. This property is in a small valley surrounded by mountains. Near to river kern. Living and dining area is big. Kids enjoyed a lot. We hiked to a nearby mountain. This is near to Lake Isabella, where we did boating as well. Plenty of utensils, linens provided by the owner. The kitchen is well equipped except dishwasher needs to be fixed and we couldn't operate the ice dispenser in the fridge (maybe because of our lack of knowledge).

But this property requires some maintenance, not all the lights and switches were working but whatever left is enough to light the entire property. Definitely, Basement needs more lights, light on top of the pool table is not working. One of the bedrooms (First floor left) requires curtains otherwise morning sun will wake you :). Ground Floor bedroom's door lock (which opens to the patio) and living room entrance door lock needs repair, it is very hard to lock these doors. Also, top floor bathroom needs one bin.

But we really enjoyed our stay in this property and can come back again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I have fixed the dishwasher and have replaced the lights down stairs in the basement. We have also replaced a couple of those switches that were broken. The door lock in the master bedroom works and functions properly. I try to show each guest the steps to open and lock the door. I will add the steps on how to lock and unlock the master bedroom french doors. Thank you, Joe

Joe was very friendly

  • 3 of 5

The house was unfinished, there are many outlets that did not work as well as light switches. The house is located in a neighborhood and there are some windows missing coverings. There was a BBQ but it is charcoal so if you plan to use it bring supplies. Wear house shoes in the house, the carpet tacks HURT. Overall it was clean, but I think a bit overpriced.

Owner's Response: I read your review and concerns. I will include directions into the house rules to remind future guests how to use the light switches. I went ahead and repaired that tack board, thanks for the heads up. I also made sure that the outlets are still working.

Perfect location for many activities the Kern River has the offer

  • 5 of 5

Thank you very much for the cabin Joe, it was in a perfect location for the activities and motorcycle riding that we wanted to do, The cabin was very clean upon arrival, The housekeeper was an absolute sweetheart!

And yes we did partake in a couple of pool games and my cousin happens to be a drummer so he hopped on the drum kit and wailed on them for a little bit.

When we plan this trip again next year I will definitely be getting a hold of you for another stay. Thank you so much!

Wonderful time on the Kern

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a weekend at Joe's beautiful cabin and absolutely loved it. You can really see the love and craftsmanship that went into this home the second you walk in the door. Just minutes away from the Kern River, we grabbed our fishing gear and walked down to find easy access to the river. The town of Kernville is just a short drive for any fishing/rafting/outdoors gear you may need as well as bars and restaurants. There is also a general store that is within walking distance to the cabin. There are also many places to pull off the side of the road along the river to find a nice place to toss your line in.

We had 5 guys stay the weekend and everyone got their own bed. There was also an additional sleeper sofa and two other big couches if you have more staying.

Joe was a pleasure to deal with and was very accessible in communicating with us before we went up. He was willing to go the extra mile with anything that we might have needed.

If you are planning on staying in the area I would highly recommend checking out this rental. I know I will be back.
