About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

It's mile high elevation, great climate, friendly locals, great shopping and dining make Ajijic on Lake Chapala the pearl of central Mexico destinations. This beautiful Ajijic home is truly an escape from the hustle and bustle of life.

We have carefully thought of all the details in the home to make it a pleasing 'home away from home'. A large kitchen/dining room area with adjoining patio, two living rooms with adjoining patios, three spacious bedrooms, three baths and five floor to ceiling fireplaces add to the unique flavor of this friendly home.

The home is surrounded by beautifully kept gardens, fruit trees and a privacy stone wall around the property in Mexican style. A large vaulted ceiling in the great room has hand painted timbers that reflect the native culture. Five individual patios on different levels of the home offer views of Lake Chapala, the mountains and the quiet street below.

The home is on a cul-de-sac and only sees a few cars a day. Have breakfast or dinner in the ground level screened-in porch surrounded by fragrant blooming flowers and birds. The master bedroom has a large vaulted ceiling with a floor-to-ceiling glass wall and adjacent patio that look to the mountains - it is truly privacy with a view!

Excellent home in a great location - book it!

  • 4 of 5

I’m writing this review from the dining room table overlooking the VERY quiet street leading to 26, Linda Vista. We’re here until the end of the month but when we leave we’ll be super busy so I want to submit this now, while I remember.

I’ll start with my only negative comment; some of the furniture is well past it’s prime and needs to be updated quickly. The couch, chair and love seat in the living room are quite old and the springs and cushions are uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time and the Equipale furniture on the patio and in some of bedrooms is old and fragile and it’s a little scary to sit on in case it breaks.

With these two exceptions, everything else is fantastic! The kitchen is VERY well stocked and the house is well-decorated and very well appointed – it doesn’t feel like a vacation rental at all. Within a day of arriving it absolutely felt like home. The bedrooms are large and the beds are very comfortable, there are lots of sheets and towels, there’s a new large screen TV that receives four English channels and the internet speed is more than adequate for streaming Netflix and using Skype. The fireplace in the living room also does a great job taking the chill off when necessary, the yard is great for our dog and there's a very good BBQ for grilling.

From a customer service perspective, we couldn’t be happier. The property manager met us when we arrived and gave us a thorough walk-through, and any time we had any kind of issue she dealt with it promptly, courteously and professionally. But the best part is the maid, Arcelia. She's beyond amazing and a real gem! She friendly, efficient to a fault, and after the first week it was more like our good friend returning to help us out rather than just the maid coming back.

We also loved the location. It’s a very easy walk to the town square – leave the house, right on Ocampo, right on Flores, cut through the soccer field and you’re right at the start of the Malecon! But honestly, after a while we didn’t walk into town that often. Within a short walk from the house there are at least five wonderful, very reasonably priced restaurants and a live, community theatre with a different production every six weeks.

We’re coming back next year and the only reason we’re not rebooking is we’ve found a place with a pool. Other than that we’d come back in a minute and we highly recommend this house for anyone looking for a vacation rental.

Clean, Quiet Neighborhood! Beautiful, Secure Home in West Ajijic!!

  • 5 of 5

Boy did we luck out! First thing my husband said was how clean the home was! This is due to the maid, what a hard worker she was and so personable. She even hugged me! The home is in a great part of the village, but a little far to walk into the village every day. We rented a golf cart from Lake Chapala Golf Carts , a little bumpy, but a great way to see the village and surrounding area. Travis, the owner was great! Called him several times to ask questions about resturants or whatever.

Back to the house. The property is gorgeous ! The gardens are well maintained by a friendly gardener. There are 3 spacious bedrooms, each with it's own bathroom. The master is upstairs and 2 BRs downstairs. There are 5 outdoor living spaces. Being close to the lake and the home surround by a wall, there is no view to speak of. You are able to walk to the water to see the sunset. I loved the fact the home was surrounded by the walls and the living spaces being secure. I felt very safe while staying at #26 Linda Vista! The kitchen is well stocked with anything one would need to prepare a meal and this is also a grill to grill steaks.

There is a telephone for making calls in Mexico and 2 TVs. . There were several channels which to get English speaking movies and CNN! There are 2 indoor living areas, one downstairs and one upstairs. If renting a car, there is a secure parking garage. Did not use the buses, but close to the bus line. Also told Taxi rides are cheap.

I did not check the " People with disabilities" due to the steps and the kitchen is upstairs....but the downstairs living area is great!

Also need to say that there are at least 3 of the top 10 restaurants in Ajijic within walking distance.

Overall..a great experience!

A wonderful house in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

This was my third trip to Ajijic, and my first stay at the house on Linda Vista. The first thing to take in is the absolutely beautiful jardin. This garden is filled with exotic plants and flowers and was a pleasure to enjoy every day of my month's stay. It is lovingly maintained by a gardener who keeps it meticulously groomed. The house is large, lovely, and very Mexican. There is ample room for a big family or several couples. There is a safety gate at the top of the stairs if you have smaller children. With three bathrooms and bedrooms, everyone has a space for themselves. The master bedroom is huge with a beautiful balcony and floor to ceiling windows. Expect occasional barking dogs and party noises - it is part of the ambiance of Mexico. There's an easy walk to convenience stores, one of the best hair salons, a great nail salon and other services. You can also walk to the main square in about 15-20 minutes. Busses travel about a block away from the house. WalMart and Super Lake are both quick cab rides away. I love Ajijic. This house reflects its charm and is a wonderful way to experience this magical spot. Highly recommended.

A Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

This spacious, comfortable home was great when we stayed for the month of July 2014. Located in a quiet area on the west side of Ajijic, we enjoyed morning walks with our dog along the lakeshore. Having a car with us was convenient, but there is a local bus stop on the corner a block away and for 4 pesos, it's a quick ride to the town plaza. We had most of our meals at local restaurants (amazing choices here for a small town), but cooked breakfast every morning and most lunches here in the well-equipped kitchen. Filtered water system was a big plus. We never got sick and used tap water for coffee, brushing teeth, drinking, etc. We spent most of our time in the upstairs area, bright and airy, feeling almost like we were in a treehouse. The well-maintained garden provided beautiful flowers, soft grass, and lush green views, both of the steep mountains that rise behind the house to the partial views of Lake Chapala. The friendly cleaning lady came 3 times a week, patiently helping us with our Spanish. There are 3 very nice restaurants and a small art gallery within a 5 or 10 minute walk. We have rented many times through either VRBO or AirBnb and have always enjoyed the rental home choice more than a hotel. This place was unique in that it felt so much like home so quickly. Oh, strong Wi-Fi and brand new flatscreen TV too. Highly recommended.

I can't wait to go back

  • 5 of 5

I rented this house in late August 2010 through the first week in October 2010. It was truly wonderful. My 12 year old broke his wrist in August and the docs here wanted $7000 to fix it. That was on top of the $2950 we'd already paid. I researched orthopedic doctors in Mexico for about a week, then I went searching for someplace to stay. When I read the information about this house I was a bit skeptical but I phoned the owner and was put instantly at ease. She was kind and personable.

The house was in a quiet neighborhood and had a beautiful garden. I spent many hours sitting on the lake facing patio reading or just being quiet. The house was very well equipped and contained everything I needed to prepare meals, internet and cable TV. To be honest, I was a bit ill at ease (privacy issues) at first about a maid who comes in to clean three times a week but she was a very pleasant lady who spoiled my son and made my time there even more enjoyable.

I liked this house because it was everything I look for in a home away from home. It had that amazing garden with butterflies and brilliantly hued humming birds. The house had a spacious interior with lots of room for friends and family. A simple yet warm and comfortable decor but most importantly I felt welcome there.

I live in CA ~ LOVE my home in Ajijic, MX and wish that I could spend more time there.

HELEN VIDEEN purchased this house in 2001

Guestbook comments from the owner

We rented this home for 2 months and had a very positive experience. The house is extremely spacious, we entertained a number of visitors during our stay and never felt cramped or crowded. The lovely gardens and patios allow for lots of outdoor living space, so we were able to take full advantage of the wonderful climate. We spent many hours on the upper covered terrace amongst the tree tops, enjoying the lush flowers, hummingbirds, butterflies and breezes - and yes, even the squauking parrots! The kitchen is larger than it appears in the photos, and completely equipped for home cooking, with plenty of dishes, glasses, cutlery, etc. for entertaining. The master bedroom is huge with lovely mountain views on one side and a lakeview on the other. Noteworthy are the incredibly comfortable beds throughout - if you have spent much time in Mexico, you know this is not always the case. The home has alot of character, and welcoming "old world" charm with comfortable furnishings and attractive decor - it quickly takes on a "home away from home" feeling. The location is great, some decent restaurants within an easy walk, about a 15-20 minute stroll to the plaza (5 minute drive) and close to bus stops and little local convenience stores. We really enjoyed living in a quiet and established residential neighbourhood, rather than some of the newer gated "gringoland" communities and much appreciated the sense of privacy that came from being tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac. We had a wonderful stay!
