About Melanie Ebertz

My roots are in the St. Croix River Valley, the house I invite you to stay in was my Grandma Florence's! I am passionate about the river, the history & the arts & architecture of Stillwater. I love the cycling, walking and all the great things our river town offers. I am a guide of the Peruvian Andes so the hills keep me as closely connected to the mountains as the mid-west can get. I also design Peruvian textiles, so there is a lot of rich color & texture in Florence's house. Having guiding in my genes, I am always happy to point guests in the direction of their passions.

Melanie Ebertz purchased this house in 2000

Why Melanie Ebertz chose Stillwater

Depth of character, comfort and charm! Due to the fact that I spent part of my childhood in this house, I am committed to the preservation of this historic property and making it comfortable for your stay. The valley offers many outdoor activities the house is conveniently situated and the biking & walking is superb!

What makes this house unique

A comfortable house on a large double lot that calls one to sit outside, or on the porch, and enjoy the gardens & the birds. There is a fire pit and a wood pile for your enjoyment.

Very nice!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at "Florence's". We were 3 couples who were here for a family reunion in Bayport. We didn't spend a lot of time at the house since the reunion was at another location, but it was nice to come back to our own at night. The house is very comfortable and in a great location. We enjoyed sitting out in the back yard in the morning drinking coffee before we left for the reunion. It was roomy enough to accommodate 6 people. I would highly recommend staying here.

This Old House

  • 5 of 5

This home is historical. has been remodeled very nicely. All the accommodations of home, with the added breakfest (eggs and freshly baked bread) by our Host. Very nice yard with a sitting area for just relaxing and enjoying the property.

The impressive thing for us was, we traveled by Boat from Dubuque and arrived after dark, our Host was will to pick us up from Marina but there was Uber and Cab services in Stillwater. this was something out of the norm. thank you for for thinking of us.

I highly recomend this property.

Best Regards

Long-term rental, a home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented Melanie's vacation home for the past 3 months while we house hunted, from March - May. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. The space is wonderfully warm and inviting. As we were going to be there longer, Melanie invited us to rearrange things if needed, but we left almost everything as it was. The history of the house is palpable, and the artistic decor and painting adds a beautiful, heart-felt touch; that generic hotel feel was gratefully absent! It was just the two of us there, but there is plenty of room for multiple guests. The kitchen is very well stocked; you could make anything you'd like there. The beds are very comfortable with plenty of bedding available. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly, and an easy walk to downtown and a local park with trails.

Secondly, Melanie is an extremely gracious host. She always kept us alerted if any maintenance or yard work was occurring, and checked in frequently but without ever feeling like she was invading our privacy. Any requests or questions were answered very quickly. She's a very kind and cool person!

I would highly recommend this property for short-term or longer-term stays. You'll enjoy your time! Thanks, Melanie!

Best Experience Ever

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the best places that I have ever stayed. We spent 5 wonderful days in Stillwater at Melanie's and it couldn't have been more perfect. Everything we could have thought of being provided was there for us to enjoy. Not only is the property well maintained and clean, it is comfortable and beautiful. It is definitely a home away from home to be enjoyed fully. Melanie left a list of restaurants, shopping and things to explore in Stillwater. Every suggestion she gave us was excellent. Lots of room for a large family and still cozy enough for one or two people, this home is a perfect place to be. Lots to do and also a wonderful retreat space for those who want to "get away". We give it an A+ recommendation for whatever your needs are. Stillwater is a lovely town with great restaurants, walking, biking and hiking. For us, the well equipped kitchen was a draw to do lots of our own cooking. Two restaurants that we like were the Oasis and Lolo's. Lolo"s has a great 3-5 happy hour and really great food. The Oasis a great place for interesting healthy food. We felt so at home and found Melanie available for all our needs while we were there. I must say that I have not felt so welcomed and so well taken care of anywhere else I have ever stayed. And that recommendation is coming from someone that has stayed in a lot of very hospitable and welcoming B&B's Airbnb's. This is my first experience at a VRB0. Based on this experience I would definitely do a VRBO again. I look forward to another time soon in Stillwater at Melanie's
