Our doggies loved it as well .
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay as ever, the cottage and surroundings were perfect, very sorry to leave! Jeanette and Rodger made us very welcome as ever, lovely people. Can't wait to return and explore more of the area, further walks to enjoy and good meals locally. Everything nice and clean and well appointed, beautiful views from the garden, very relaxing with a glass of wine after a walk.
A lovely holiday home. Beautiful surroundings and lots of lovely things to see and so close by. A very warm welcome and lots of information to hand. We had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay. The dogs also had a fabulous time. Lots of great places to take them. Lydford Gorge is an absolute must! Thank you for a lovely break!
A lovely place to stay on the edge of Dartmoor with a secluded, enclosed garden with stunning views.
We only had a short stay, but enjoyed every moment. The accommodation was perfect for us and our Labrador with everything on the same level, the location is perfect. You can see the incredible Brentor Church from the front door and there are some beautiful walks directly from the cottage, and the stunning Lydford Gorge is only a couple of miles along the road. We also had Dinner at the Elephants Nest - food was excellent.
Hele leuke woning, erg knus, heel compleet, schitterend uitzicht
We hebben een hele fijne week gehad in huisje Monkstone. Heel compleet met zitjes in de tuin, prachtig uitzicht en hele aardige eigenaars. Zelfs met regen hadden we het prima met de open haard en dvd's.
Lovely cottage, great views, comfortable bed, constant hot water and our puppy dog made welcome.
We were so pleased with our choice of Monkstone Cottage. We could walk our puppy Millie from the house - she went up Brentor three times! The views were lovely from the back of the cottage too, and the local pub served lovely food. The cottage was so well equipped, and the position was great - easy access to all the places we wanted to see. We packed a lot in - Devon County Show, Cotehele House and garden, Truro, Lydford Gorge (wonderful) on the doorstep, and then one day in North Cornwall. It was lovely to come home to the cottage which felt like a home from home, after a busy day. Weather was kind too!
We stayed at Monkstone for 5 days with our 2 dogs. We were looking for a getaway for peace and quiet with tranquil surroundings and comfortable premises. Monkstone was this and more and is better than described.
Monkstone is clean, homely, roomy enough for all of us along with mod cons and a country feel overlooking the Moorland.
The views from the front and back were ideal. Greenery, wildlife, and bats in the evening made it that more special.
The location is tucked away but central enough for drives to the moors themselves, nearby towns with their makets and such friendly people.
The owner of Monkstone excelled in customer service, making sure we were okay and recommended places to go and we were welcomed with creamed tea.
We have recommended Monkstone to friends and will return soon as this was our 3rd visit.
Monkstone Cottage is a lovely, comfortable, airy, holiday cottage in which we spent a lovely week. Not only is the cottage lovely, but the location is fabulous, just below Brentor Church itself. It is within easy reach of most of Dartmoors beauty spots along roads that are lightly used. I cannot recommend this holiday cottage more highly - it is a great place for walking, relaxing and 'doing you own thing', Excellent!
My partner and I stayed in Honeysuckle Cottage. When we arrived, we were greeted with a cream tea, logs for the cozy wood burner and the most pretty and well equipped cottage a couple could hope for. During our stay we met our hosts; Jeanette and Roger, who were so friendly and only too happy to give local directions, suggestions for walks and insight to the area we were visiting. We felt like we were visiting friends and felt right at home there. The town of Tavistock is delightful, especially on the Friday when the Market is hopping with activity and the Cafe's are swelling with friendly people and great food. We visited Lydford Gorge, which is absolutely amazing! If it wasn't for the review from our hosts, we may not have ventured there! We also visited other places suggested by Jeanette and Roger that made our holiday that more special. Not only was our cottage perfect and so well equipped, it was full of character and maintained at a high standard with all that a cozy romantic cottage for two could offer. We both stayed a week and found it difficult to leave such a lovely part of England with a 'home away from home' cottage and such lovely, friendly hosts. We left feeling revived, relaxed and our 'batteries recharged' - I highly recommend staying at this most delightful retreat from the busy world and a 'get back to nature' theme with old worldly charm and such lovely hosts. We plan to visit again for the list of things to do was not completed in the short space of time we stayed. Thank you to our hosts for providing such a wonderful retreat and friendly stay :-)
The barn conversion is very well designed with views in two directions over the countryside. There is a view of Brentor church and of the valley. The cottage is clean and well maintained and a lovely cream tea awaits you on arrival. The owners are very friendly and helpful but not obtrusive in any way. We take out three dogs who love running in the paddock with Millie, the owners dog. We would highly recommend this cottage to friends and family.
This is our second time at Monkstone Cottage and we will be returning again and again.
We live and work in Egypt , so it is lovely to get back to the changing seasons of the Moors.
The Cottage has everything you could possibly need for a holiday. It was cosy and warm with a log fire burning, in November, when we came last time. This time we had great weather and had the french doors open, looking out over the beautiful Devon fields and farmland .
Jeanette always has the basics in the cottage ready for your arrival and a very nice treat of a Cream tea !!!
The bed is the most comfortable we have ever slept in and it is so quiet you can hear the owls at night. Beautiful!
The cottages are situated in a perfect position for walks all over the Moors. Jeanette has a wealth of information and can tell you the best walks in the area too. Widgery Cross and Bray Tor became our favourite walk up onto the Moors , along with Tavy Cleave, that is just a short drive away.
Fantastic holiday!
Amazing cottage and a great weekend getaway to chill and relax in a stunning setting. The cottage has all the modern things you would need but still has the old style quirks that make this cottage perfect for a romantic getaway!!
highly recommend this cottage and pretty sure I will be going again in the future!!

We have lived here for over 23 years and are now retired. Roger sold tractors and agricultural machinery and I was teaching in Plymouth, so it's lovely now we have more time to enjoy where we live. We love walking out on Dartmoor and both coasts with Millie our border terrier. We have three children who are all live away with our 4 grandchildren. They are spread far and wide even to Australia but they all really enjoy coming back from cities to the peace and quiet of Monkstone where they grew up.
We chose Monkstone because of it's location. The views of Dartmoor and Brentor Church set high on a tor are the best in the area. We have peace and quiet yet are only 5 minutes drive into Tavistock which is a thriving country town. Lots of coffee shops, places to eat and the amazing indoor Pannier Market which draws people from all over the area. It's a really buzzy place.
There are so few places in the country now that have peace and quiet but are convenient and Monkstone has this. The views here are amazing and with walks from the doorstep it's the perfect place to unwind and watch the setting sun or star gaze with no light pollution.
