Myself, husband and two family friends recently booked a two night stay at Barn Owl Cottage, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Located on a working farm and just off the beaten track nestled between the rolling green fields, it was the perfect place to unwind. Extremely comfortable with all the kitchen gadgets you need for a self catering break, if you don’t want to indulge in the wide choice of places to eat locally. Matlock Bath a short drive away has a very large choice of fish and chip shops cooking fresh to order, alternatively a 15 minute stroll into Cromford past the canal and down the windey country lanes you can enjoy some tasty home cooking at The Boat Inn.
Ideal for guests with one dog, the outdoor courtyard is handy for eating outdoors and space for your dog to explore, although we would recommend a ground spike and extendable lead for dogs who really like to go exploring and making friends with the hens (when you aren’t watching).
Alexandria is a super warm host and nothing is to much trouble. A bottle of wine awaited us on arrival which was a very nice and unexpected touch. The cottage is much bigger than the photos show and following its restoration has maintained some of its beautiful and original features including exposed beams and stonework (a reminder you of the buildings origins).
The only negative (but wouldn’t stop us from returning) is the front bedroom is under another cottage and can get slightly noisy from guests above. Again this wouldn’t put us off from returning.
We can’t wait to come back, but for longer next time.
