Large patio with tables and chairs to have your meals outdoors and fire bowl on the patio or you can have a fire down by the river.

Area attractions include- Fort Wellington (famous in the battle of 1812) in Prescott, Fort Henry in Kingston, Upper Canada village, Chrysler park, wild life Bird Sanctuary as well as within an hour of Ottawa

About Christine Joli-Coeur

Both Randy and I are relatively newbies to the area having lived her just under 20 years.

Christine Joli-Coeur purchased this chateau / country house in 2005

Why Christine Joli-Coeur chose Prescott

When we first purchased we had been living in a smaller cottage in the area for a number of years. Initially we thought to rent it for a few years and move in when the kids were older. The advent of our third child made us rethink and we built a home a bit south and west of this historic home. Why this home? When I first walked in the home I had an ovewhelming sense of history. A glimpse of the past. This home is one of the pioneer homes of the area. It is truly one of the most historic homes in the area and we feel honoured to be able to share it with others.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Really nice place for large families or a couple of families. Lots of space to eat either at the kitchen table or the formal dining room table (both fit more than 10). So you don't need to pack up the chess or monopoly game at meal time. Lots of place to get away from the action like the second story closed in porch with a beautiful view of the river, sit on the large window sills in the bedrooms to read a book or outside on the large interlock patio overlooking the St. Lawrence river and Island.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I would like to share with you some kind words from our recent guests. "We certainly enjoyed staying at your historic rental home on the Saint Lawrence Seaway. The feature we particularly enjoyed was the large patio facing river. We took our coffee there in the morning, relaxed there during the cocktail hour and cooked the entre for most dinners on the open wood/charcoal burning fire pit. We also took advantage of the kayaks you provided and the large eat in kitchen. Of course, the fact that your part of Ontario is truly beautiful also helped.

We also appreciated all the advice, biking maps, activity information, etc which you provided. This support was facilitated by the positive relationship we developed during the initial correspondence and personal contact once we were there and which I believe can be one of the best features of the VRBO program for both the owner and guest. I try to establish similar relationships and provide similar support when renting our own second home in South Carolina via VRBO.

Thanks again, "

Cozy getaway for large groups

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed at Riverlee for New Year's Eve, and were very happy with the large beds, well-stocked kitchen, and outdoor winter hot tub. The owner was very helpful and went above and beyond to answer our questions about activities in the area.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your feedback. We like to make sure that the cottage would meet an extended family or multiple friend get together needs. Having enough pots, pans, serving dishes, plates etc is important. We also agree that having comfortable and big enough beds are also important. Our family when renting away will often reject those homes with only double beds. We are glad that this was a feature you enjoyed. Thank you so much for taking such good care of our home and writing a review of the property. We look forward to your group renting again in the future.

Beautiful home, relaxing environment!

  • 5 of 5

Chris & Randy beautifully maintain this lovely waterfront property. My husband and I stayed here a few nights during our road trip honeymoon from Cleveland. The house is like a TARDIS: it’s bigger on the inside. So many rooms, beautiful decor. The waterfront is fantastic! We spent our mornings drinking coffee on the dock while our dogs played in the river. An excellent place for a quiet retreat with your best friends & family (or just your spouse!). Highly recommend!!

Lovely Old Farmhouse on a Beautiful Setting

  • 5 of 5

Our family was able to vacation together this year. There are 18 of us and we range in age from 2 to 63. We all enjoyed our time together at this lovely location. We did set up air mattresses for the teenagers, and brought a crib for the 2 year old, and there was definitely plenty of room for everyone.

During the day, we played volleyball, used the kayaks and did some swimming. The owner, Christine, also shared some information on local places to visit and recommended a canal area close-by where the older kids could do some diving too, which they did, and absolutely loved! Everyone agreed that this was the perfect place to spend time with one another. We played cards and board games in the evening at the large kitchen table, we also used the fire pit and roasted marshmallows. Our family has a tradition of working on jigsaw puzzles whenever we vacation together and this time was no exception. We set them up on the dining room table and during the day, almost everyone added a few pieces to the puzzle. It was really a very relaxing and pleasant vacation all-in-all.

Some of us did take a drive to Ottowa one day, it was about an hour away from the house, and all of us who went loved the city! The market was huge and we all found treasures to bring home with us. We walked around and looked at the beautiful buildings and park areas too. The only recommendation I have would be to get there early in the day, because finding a parking spot can be difficult in such a busy city.

A large tree was being cut down on the property while we were there because it had been damaged and the owners wanted to make sure it was removed as soon as possible for safety reasons. The people that they hired to cut down and remove the tree were very courteous and really didn't get in our way at all. In fact, it seemed they were there and gone, before we knew it.

The setting of this home is absolutely beautiful and the only recommendation I would make is to bring extra towels with you. Although there are towels provided - with the hot tub and swimming -- it seemed the kids were always looking for another towel.

The owners were wonderful, and the home has a cozy, warm feeling about it. This location is definitely being kept on our list as a place to vacation again.

Beautiful location on water, big house- lots of space for large groups, but not very private

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful location on the water with a small dock, easy access for swimming and to use the provided kayaks. The house is big with lots of room for big groups to sleep, eat, and hang out. Huge convenience having the washer and dryer. Kitchen is well equipped with dishes, utensils, sharp knives, pots/pans, and a time saving dishwasher. Fire pit in the back is close and convenient, but keep your camp fires small because there are trees right overhead!! Although chemicals are provided and added daily, the hot tub did NOT appear to have been properly cleaned in quite a while (brown scum ring and murky water). We took advantage of the large property for lawn games, volleyball, and the kids enjoyed the play sets. The owners were friendly and readily available had we needed them. However this isn’t the most private rental considering the owners house is so close. Also he made many stops to check in, letting himself right in the house while we were there. Sometimes we weren’t even in the house and he would come inside to water the plants or check up on the house, and other things that should’ve been done in between people renting rather than during. We were disappointed that in during a short 4 day stay so much maintenance was done: mowing the lawn, multiple workers trimming the bushes, having a worker remove bricks from the porch area by the door........ this was inconvenient because everywhere we went, we couldn’t get away; not even by staying in the house. Overall it was a beautiful place to stay and we loved it, we just wish we would have known about the lack of privacy. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

Girls' Getaway on the St Lawrence

  • 5 of 5

This property was a wonderful reprieve from a normal work week for my 13 girlfriends and I. We stayed for 3 nights and had plenty to do the whole time. Upon arrival, we entered a spacious, well stocked home, the was relatively clean. (Spring cleaning was necessary, but nothing big) Lots to do, including the piano, hot tub, volleyball net and of course, the clear, warm water of the St Lawrence. We had tons of fun swimming, kayaking to the bridge, and singing on the dock, and cooking our dinners over the fire on the large patio. One con was the lack of fish (though we tried for hours, we only caught one tiny minnow) Apparently past visitors have had good luck so it may have been this particular time! The owner's house was much closer than the pictures let on... We had to walk through their yard every time we went to the dock. Again, no big deal, just closer than we expected. Overall, we would definitely return! Great spot, lovely century home, and very accomodating owners. This was vacationing at its best! Thank you so much, Randy and Christine!!

Very clean and fully stocked for all our needs as a large group

  • 5 of 5

Christine was thorough with the details and expectations of the cottage. All our questions were immediately answered. We were able to minimize on the purchase of plastic/paper kitchenware, since the kitchen was fully stocked. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, and fully stocked with linen.

Very large outdoor space for various activities. There was no shortage of area to play various outdoor games. Water sports were available, but since it is located on a river, they were naturally limited to the types of water activities.

I would highly recommend this property for a large group. Christine was a fantastic host and very thorough and accommodating!
