About Michael Ditchburn
We spend 10 years living in Bondi and work in Sydney because The Blue Mountains were just a bit far to commute from every day. But we finally made to move to permanently live in the Blue Mountains. Since I grew up in countryside England I need the escape from the city. We saw Piccolo in 2010 and both Holly and I knew we needed to buy it to rest and relax from the pressure of city live. I'm sure there are many of you that feel the same and we hope you enjoy our little mountain getaway.
Michael Ditchburn purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Michael Ditchburn chose Leura
This was the second miner cottage we looked at the first sold and day we enquired. I have always worked in travel and knew a property like this would work well in the mountains. It was bought for love (I know you should never buy property for love) but we thought why not. And we couldn't afford to buy where we wanted to live in Sydney. Final 6 years late after visiting the mountains mouthly we took another jump and moved to Katoomba.
What makes this Cottage unique
It's was built in about 1905 and retains all its character with squeaky floorboards but we have added all the mod cons and given it character with mid-century furniture.

Fantastic cottage close to everything
Love this place, very comfy, dog friendly and everything you need for a stay in the Blue Mountains. Close to both Leura and Katoomba. Tastefully furnished and decorated with lots of thoughtful touches.
Comfortable and cosy cottage
We loved our stay in this comfortable cottage. Decor was very appealing and we felt immediately at home. The super comfortable and warm bed plus the open fire made for a very comfortable stay. Appreciated the added extras such as a great range of herbal teas, smart tv and quality appliances in the kitchen. Would highly recommend.
Cute cottage and well equipped
I spent a few days at the cottage with 2 kids and enjoyed our stay. It is well equipped and feels homely.
As a light sleeper, I unfortunately heard trucks most nights on the highway- the kids didn’t hear a thing.
I'm glad overall you enjoyed your stay at Piccolo.
You must be a very light sleeper to hear the trucks on the highway.
Sorry to hear you lacked sleep. Bose to a great noise cancelling sleep-headphone
Easter stay in the blue mountains!
Thanks so much for having me Michael!
Your house was absolutely adorable an lots of charm. The kitchen had plenty of utensils and extras. The whole house was incredibly clean and tidy, we couldn't fault it. It is in an ideal location and we thoroughly enjoyed walks in the neighbourhood. The backyard was great for our puppy too. We will definitely recommend "Piccolo" to friends who visit the Blue Mountains. At night time it was tricky to navigate the steps, it didn't affect out stay but a suggestion would be to have a solar light/lamp towards the front fence.
AGAIN, THANKS HEAPS! Cheers. Brodie
Thank Brodie for your great review.
I'll get some new lights for the path, the old solar one died.
The magic cottage...
My wife and I spent 2 blissful days in the tranquil blue mountains at the miners cottage in Leura......why not take the steps (39 I think ) up to the piccolo like we did and enjoy the great view from the verandah, inviting atmosphere and cosy warmth that it offers....we will be back for more....from Barry and Nita
Everything we needed
Thanks to the great decor and design, this little place felt like home. Retro touches made us nostalgic for our Nans but the house was also cosy and well-equipped.
