This was our 4th time renting from the owner. The house is so charming and relaxing and CDA is always a great vacation spot. The owner is so nice, responds quickly and is easy to work with. The location is great for walks to the beach, swimming, bike rides, walking into town and my son loves the park. The house is very clean and the king size bed is super comfortable. We definitely plan to come back again and would recommend this property to friends. Thank you for another wonderful stay!
This was a quaint little house, probably built in the 20's or 30's as a summer home close to Lake CDA
The upstairs has sloped ceilings throughout, which is why there is no place in the upstairs bathroom for a mirror at face height; it would also be hard to fit a shower on the second floor, but the first floor bath has plenty of mirrors and a shower. Although maybe a mirror on a swivel could be added to the second floor
The stairs were steep and I wouldn't want anyone with balance issues on them
The portable A/C unit in the upstairs bedroom worked great, as did the window units downstairs. We barely used the downstairs A/C, though, as opening the windows at night and in the morning, when it is quite cool, keep the temps down during the heat of the day
The front porch was a great place to sit, read and relax. The grill was brand new.
The back yard landscaping could use a thorough overhaul, though, as it was very overgrown and there weren't any comfortable seating areas
Our family of 5 spent the week at Dan's house. It suited our needs perfectly. It was a clean homey house and in an awesome location. We enjoyed the charming neighborhood and it's proximity to the lake and shops. The home had everything we needed to make our vacation relaxing and peaceful. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch both mornings and evenings as well as gathering around the table at night for games. Dan was very responsive when booking the house and for anything we required when we were there. It was a very quaint and lovely place to stay.
Dan is a great host. When any difficulties pop up he immediately responds and gets the problem solved. He is very thoughtful and kind making sure we were enjoying our stay. The house has a great location to walk to the beach or downtown. The house was very clean. As six women who meet yearly throughout the country, we enjoyed sitting on the front porch catching up on the past year. One of the gals couldn't make it this year. Good thing as there would be no place for her to sleep! It does NOT sleep eight. It sleeps six. One King, two queen beds. The biggest issue for us was one shower even though there are two bathrooms. The upstairs bathroom just has a tub. That bathroom has the mirror on the floor which none of us could use. We also did not experience the hotel quality bedding. There were no matching bedding as stated nor did we see bedding as pictured. The downstairs bedroom's mattress squeaks so badly that I had to sleep on the sofa so wouldn't wake up my bed partner. The bedrooms are very dark. Light bulbs were burnt out and couldn't find any replacements. Some of the furnishings are old with lots of scratches. The dining room chairs are very uncomfortable and floors creak waking up anyone sleeping in the downstairs bedroom. Saying all this we did enjoy our stay in beautiful Coeur D Alene, ID.
Pros: Convenient location to the lake, walking and biking path and great places to eat. Near one of the great parks CDA has to offer. Weather was beautiful so we were out of the house a lot. Loved the front porch and quiet street.
Cons: not maintained- grass needed to be cut and shrubs needed trimming. I contacted Dan and he said it was cut less than a week ago. We were there three nights and no one came to mow. Couldn't go out to the yard and relax. Grill worked but not clean. Floors creaked on every step we took. Tried to be quiet as we were traveling with a 6 month old and a two year old. Bed on main floor was noisy with every move. Upstairs beds were great but the steep staircase was dangerous for carrying up a baby and allowing the two year old up stairs. Had to be on my knees to do my hair and make-up as the mirror in the upstairs bath was the height of my hips. Stated Air Conditioning but could not find it. Very warm upstairs at night but could only open the bathroom window- master bedroom window did not open. NO SMOKE ALARMS IN THE ENTIRE HOUSE!!!!! I was not aware that one could rent out a home without it being up to code. Kitchen cabinets would not stay shut and the ice maker did not work in the fridge.
There was laundry to be done - wet towels from the previous renter- that I was willing to do but no laundry soap. Dan did say he would reimburse me if I wanted to go buy some but I wasn't going to take my time from my grandchildren to go shopping for laundry soap. There were no paper towels, short on toilet paper, no salt and pepper and no instructions for the area or the home. The last VRBO we stayed in had the staples needed so we did not have to run to the store for paper towels, toilet paper and salt and pepper. Dishwasher was full of dishes. They had been washed but when we went to set the table for dinner there were only 4 forks in the drawer. Afterwards we discovered all the dishes in the dishwasher.
Loved the location- the house has a lot of potential but I would look for a different place when I come back to CDA. Very disappointed in the condition and lack of upkeep. Mostly tho the lack of Smoke Alarms on both floors was the deal breaker for me. Not recommended for family with young children.
Our family rented this house to enplore the area and to just kick back. We were able to do all that from this amazing location. Many days we didn't even have to move the car since there is so much to walk to. The home fit our needs perfectly from sitting on the porch with a book to an easy walk into town for dinner. We can't wait to come back!
