About this property
Recently opened the Redwood National Park Riverfront Retreat
The Villa is a true escape we know you will enjoy for its foremost location on the river directly adjacent to the National Park and the Jedediah Smith State Park. It is situated on a spectacular spot that exemplifies the Pacific Northwest and its pristine rivers. Our home away from home offers comfort and relaxation while exploring with friends and family our Wild Rivers Coast.
The Villa has a prime location with a 180° view of the Smith River, the cleanest river in California. Newly renovated from top to bottom, our home offers an experience like no other on the river. Wake up to views of the river and to the sound of it rushing by. Enjoy your coffee by big bay windows or dine in the evening by the light of a sunset as the river meanders by on the way to the Pacific.
Our family’s riverfront hideaway is located in Hiouchi, California, just 15 minutes East of Crescent City and outside the coastal zone and so enjoys warmer weather throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall.
The house is quietly stationed at the end of a cul de sac which grants plenty of privacy. It is situated on 1.1 acres of gardens and ponds and has a deck that runs the entire length of the house, as well as a large sunroom that allows viewing of the river from inside by all. The architecture is suggestive of a provencal village in Denmark with white paint and red roof, providing a classic ambiance with all the modern comforts to make your stay in the heart of the redwoods memorable and relaxing.
The Villa has been extensively renovated using top of the line finishes including granite tile, new white oak hardwood flooring, as well as new appliances, lighting and furniture. An open floor plan and big windows allow unobstructed views of the redwoods and the Smith River.
No matter the season, your visit will enjoy the outdoors as well as indoors. The first floor offers an expansive kitchen-dining room layout. The dining area features plenty of seating with a table for 12 to host family gatherings. After dinner, enjoy the fireplace in the living room, while curling up on one of several couches to enjoy an evening’s conversation or TV viewing on a 65” flat screen. We provide plenty of games and reading materials to entertain the entire family. The first floor’s, large sunroom serves a dual purpose as it is also our game room with a regulation pool table.
When you are ready for sleep, chose from our 5 mountain-style decorated bedrooms:
The Madrone Master Suite: located on the second floor, king bed, spectacular view of the river from its private balcony, electric fireplace and master bath.
The Doug Fir Room: located on the second floor, queen bed, multiple windows overlooking the river
The Redwood Room: located on the second floor, queen bed, great river view.
The Alder Room: located on the second floor, 2 twin beds and bunk beds, garden and river views.
The Maple Room: located on the first floor, queen bed, garden view with electric wood stove and private entrance.
The Redwoods and the Smith River are a short drive to the entrance of Jedediah National and State Park. The manicured lawn and garden are an incredible treat in the Spring, Summer and Fall, and offer two ponds, Japanese maples, and unique trees and shrubs found nowhere else in the County. Just up the road from the Park is the quaint little town of Hiouchi, which offers a 9 hole golf course, a cafe with BigFoot size pancakes and a small hamlet store for obtaining groceries and gas.
Because we live locally, we can offer a great variety of suggestions for your trip with places to visit and explore including hikes through the redwoods, walks on the beaches or coastal dunes, whale watching, a visit to Battery Point lighthouse, horseback rides on the beaches or in the redwoods, bird watching some of the 413 plus species known to visit Del Norte County and of course fishing on the beautiful Smith River, known for its world record salmon and steelhead fishing.

This place was great for two families of 4. Chris is an awesome host. Sleeping to the sound of the river in comfortable beds. The only thing I would add is if you want to interact with the river, it’s probably a short drive if you have kids due to fast moving traffic outside the “compound”, but it would not stop us from coming back.
This house was perfect for our family trip to the Redwoods! Plenty of space and amenities to enjoy. We loved the indoor fireplace on the chilly mornings and the firepit outside at night. The view of the Smith River was great from the deck and upstairs balcony. The privacy of the area was also very nice. It was nice to come back each day after hiking to such a comfortable home. I highly recommend!
Really nice, secluded feeling spot. Right on the river (a little sketchy to access, but worth it). Very comfortable & spacious-- perfect for a big family getaway. Chris was really easy to get ahold of & accommodating. The yard is AMAZING. Would be perfect in the summer. Overall a very nice place.
Exactly as advertised. Beds we more comfortable that you usually see at a rental and there are three bedrooms with views of the river. Super close to all three redwood parks.
We were all very comfortable in the home. Very spacious for the 11 of us. Highly recommend by us. Awesome communication with Chris and he was very helpful.
This place was spotless, absolutely beautiful, and well stocked with lots of towels and amenities. Chris was very personable and communicative. 10/10 would stay again!
We stayed at this property very comfortably with 7 adults, 4 kids, and a toddler. The landscaping and river views are beautiful, and the house has everything you need to be a home base for seeing the Redwoods. Some of the best hikes in the Redwoods State and National Parks are just up the road. Host was very responsive. 100% would recommend to friends and family!
The Smith River provides a lovely backdrop to the amazing views of the water
This is our second stay at this house. It's big & comfortable, with all you might need for a larger group. Not fancy - which is perfect for us, since we bring our dogs.Close to so many great places, in all directions.
Three generations of our family stayed in this amazing home. Everything is as described and even better. The host’s recommended areas for possible seal and sea lion sightings and we were not disappointed. The area around this home has everything for experiencing outdoor activities. Hopefully we’ll return one day. Thank you again Chris and Lisa!
We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Del Norte. The house was exactly like the description, it had everything you would need for a long weekend and felt private and cozy. Perfect location whether you want to hike or explore the coast. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to vacation in the redwoods.
Had a wonderful stay at this wonderful home with friends and family. Was very impressed also with the great communication with the host and ease of check in and check out. Had a lot of fun playing pool, dining at the large table, enjoying the beautiful view and listening to the sounds of the river. Location is beautiful and private and being able to bring our fur babies with us is always #1. We had everything that we needed there excluding 2 bbqs for grilling. Definitely a must stay for everyone!
