Escape To The Charm of The Historic Independence Square
The historic Independence Square dates back to the early beginnings of the pioneer days. The starting point of the Santa Fe, California and Oregon Trails. In the mid 1800s, our streets rumbled under the weight of wooden wagons and buzzed with those adventurers seeking the promise of a fresh start. Lending to its nickname “Queen City of the Trails.”
As the years went on, the Independence Square and the surrounding area was developed and expanded. Construction of the Independence Square Courthouse was completed in the late 1800s and is presently the home to the Jackson County Historical Society and other offices. The Square also played a part in historic battles including the first battle of Independence.
Years later Independence Missouri would become well known for other reasons. Known as “The Man from Independence” Harry S Truman, the 33rd President of the United States proudly called Independence his home. He worked one of his first jobs at Clinton’s on the Square. And got his start in politics at the Jackson County Courthouse. Even after his Presidency, Truman returned to his home in Independence where he was frequently seen strolling the streets of the Square and visiting with the locals.
Our present-day Independence Square has continued to grow and change while keeping the history of our area alive with the many statues and murals telling our unique story. We hope you enjoy your stay with us at the Three Trails Lofts and exploring our beloved Independence Square.
Getting around
The loft is located within the historic Independence square and easy walking access to all the local businesses, restaurants, breweries and winery, there's something for everyone in this charming downtown. Plus, the Farmers Market and the annual Santa-Cali-Gon Days festival is a must-see!
