We loved the house and look forward to another visit in the future. The host was responsive and helpful. The house had more space and sleeping options than expected. Best of all was the location on the 'quiet-side'. We thought we were going to spend a lot of time driving to the east side of the island, but we enjoyed the Flying Mountain, Beech Mountain, and Ship Harbor trails and sunsets at the Bass Harbor Lighthouse.

We loved our stay here! It was the perfect location to explore the island, close to Acadia attractions and an easy drive to Bar Harbor. The home is old but in a very charming way; we wanted the feel of a bed and breakfast with our own space and this provided. With an old home comes some quirks and imperfections but nothing largely affected our stay. Bugs were our only cleanliness issue but that can also be expected in an older home and Nathan had warned me about the possibility of spiders. It wasn't anything we couldn't easily handle. We also saw deer on the property almost every day which was very cool! Overall Nathan was an amazing host, answering many questions I had leading up to our trip and making sure we had anything we needed before our stay. I would highly recommend this house for a stay on Mt. Desert!

Great location to Acadia park and comfortable stay! Fit all 7 of us perfectly and the grill and fire pit were great to have for burgers and smores. Perfect location for hiking Acadia and exploring Bar harbor. Would highly recommend!

This house was excellent - great location, fully stocked kitchen, and quirky and unique. Super close to southwest harbor and echo lake and an easy drive to bar harbor and the rest of Acadia. Loved it!

Totally enjoyed our stay

Old quirky home with a huge personality. Very roomy with places for people to be together or find solitude. Decorated with loads of interesting pieces and a good collection of books including information on the area which really helped us decide on what to do each day. The best equipped vacation rental I’ve been in. We loved the fire pit and enjoyed the resident deer. The location was perfect for us, close to hikes and away from crowds

Maine getaway

A wonderful location for a short getaway to tour Acadia Natl Park and Bar Harbor. Loved the old New England style of the house. Great to have a first floor bedroom and bath. Made great use of the outdoor deck and saw deer and porcupines in the yard. Much better than a hotel stay for our group of 5. Milagro coffee is a short walk for good coffee and breakfast choices. Highly recommend Geddy’s in Bar Harbor for great seafood options! Thanks for your hospitality Nathan

A historic experience

Overall, staying at the property was a good experience. But the place can use some deep cleaning inside and out. Overall the property was clean, but some of the furniture in the main bedroom and the utensils were dusty. The books in the property was a pleasant experiences, like a trip down history.

Charming

A charming property with lovely garden (including a family of 3 deer) and interesting interior. The mural in the dining room was amazing. Communication with the host was excellent, and you can tell he cares about his guests. We had delicious blueberry ice cream down the road, played putt putt, hiked in Acadia, ate lobster rolls in Bar Harbor, and my husband walked to the beautiful butterfly garden nearby.

WEEKEND STAY

The check in process was easy with the code to type in at the entry door. The host gave a very detailed description of each room and where to find items throughtout. There were enough linens and towels. Quiet and lovely backyard. The only suggestion would be to add a lock to bathroom door in the left side bedroom upstairs. (for privacy as the door didnt stay shut) and maybe have a blow dryer in one of the houses. Overall a great house to stay and would recommend to others.

Anniversary Stay

My wife and I stayed here are really enjoyed it. We were the owner's (Nathan's) first guest. If you like a house that is a classic and has a lot of character then you will really enjoy this property. It has a ton of history and antique touches throughout. I would say a rare property these days. Lots of old books, stove, tub, and other items while having some updates in the kitchen. One night we came home and there was a family of deer in the lawn and we sat in the car and watched them for a few minutes while they watched us. The house is also close to downtime Southwest Harbor for cafes and restaurants. Great communication from Nathan and overall great stay!

The Warren

This house is in a great location & made a fantastic home base for us rusticators. We accessed the whole island easily, including bicycling the Acadia carriage roads, hiking Cadillac Mountain, shopping in SW & NE Harbor, walking to Bar Island, sand dollar hunting at Seal Harbor Beach, dining in Bar Harbor and an evening sail on the Margaret Todd. Handy maps & guides helped with planning our activities. Loved gatherings in the well-stocked kitchen which easily supported baking scones, prepping lunches or dinners. The deck was a fun place to hang out & play cards, and we took advantage of the charcoal grill as well. Conveniently provided were sundries like paper towels, spices, trash bags & saran wrap. Bathrooms had plenty of fresh towels, shampoo & soap. A older party member felt there were not enough comfortable places to sit -much of the furniture is older or antique. Beds & bedrooms were comfortable with plenty of linens, but only one bed suitable for an adult couple. Overall, being in the house was like being invited into a home where generations have lived and loved. The art, books, and antiques around the place lend an eclectic and cultured vibe with a touch of mystery - the collectors of these books were curious people and loved nature, history, theology, art & literature. Examining them reveals the names of family members and handwritten notes & poems fall from pages of the books. Nathan was great & very responsive to any questions we had. Would definitely stay again.

We found the home to be cute, clever, and well-stocked. Easy access to Flying Mountain, Wonderland, and Ship Harbor; a quick 20-minute drive from Bar Harbor. The first morning we were greeted by a doe and fawn just out the bedroom window. We'd definitely look here first if we visit MDI again!
