About this property

In Town and a Quick Walk to Acadia National Park

This newly renovated three-bedroom and two-bath house on Ledgelawn Avenue features a happy backyard, plenty of sleeping area, and a small office where an internationally best-selling novel was written. Really.

There's a grill outside on the deck, a second oven, a big gravel driveway and it's all in incredibly close proximity to Great Meadow Loop (for a hike), the Park Loop Road and in-town Bar Harbor. Lilacs bloom. Birds sing. And it's an incredibly happy place to enjoy Bar Harbor.

Excellent location and easy access to Bar Harbor, Acadia Park, etc. Well-outfitted and a very hospitable host and guide to the area. We were taken care of very well, and would easily come back to this property in the future for visits to the area!

House is a great location for both exploring the town and the national park. An easy walk to the Village Green to catch Island explorer buses, an easy walk to the Shore Path, and an easy walk to the Compass Harbor Trail (a hidden gem much less crowded than other sites at Acadia). Amenities in the house were great, and there were many thoughtful touches in the decor. It was a really restful place to stay. Backyard was fantastic for star watching on clear nights. Host was great with communication and very patient.

We loved the location of this house- so accessible to Acadia entrances, walkable to town, and just steps from the wonderful playground, farmers market, ballfields, and YMCA. Kitchen was well stocked and had plenty of storage and counter space. The fenced backyard, sitting area, and fire pit were lovely. We were able to see the Perseid meteor shower right from the backyard with very little light pollution. The host was helpful when we needed him and very friendly and helpful in sharing information about the town and park. This was a great base for our trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia.

Please provide more information about parking. We parked accidently in the neighbors parking lot. They politely corrected us.

Hi Bernadette. I am sorry that you were confused by my parking instructions. They were included as part of the check in information that VRBO says was sent to you on Aug. 26 at 3 p.m., three days before your arrival. Those instructions read as follows and I am not sure how to make them any more clear. "Parking Directions: Our driveway is on the right side of the house as you face it. It is shared with our neighbor so please park on the left side of the driveway and if you have multiple vehicles, please park single file. Our neighbor to the right does not live in the house but does need to be able to access his driveway and park there, which he occasionally does. The garage is ours and you may pull as close to it as you wish/need but only in front of the left hand garage door. Thank you very much!" If you have any ideas, please pass them on to me and thank you very much for staying with us!

Fantastic centralized location. The home epitomizes the Bar Harbor experience. New England charm. Minutes away from hikes and adventure, and even closer to restaurants and shops. Couldn’t ask for a better family vacation. Lobster Boat tour, Cadillac Mountain sunrise, Beehive, Six Peaks, Acadia and St. Sauveur Peaks. Regardless of the daily event we loved being able to come back to the home. My family and I throughly enjoyed our time.

This is a very comfortable house with room to spread out. Within a 10 minute walk to town & Acadia shuttle stops, restaurants, and less than 10 minute drive to access the many entrances of Acadia. Highly recommend Schooner Head Overlook for stargazing. If you have a piano player, you’ll love it. Shawn had tons of Acadia books and well lots of other books! We used the bedrooms that had A/C. The kitchen had everything we needed. It’s really a very charming neighborhood with a sports park behind. Close to the YMCA if you want a gym. It was really nice to have 2 full baths and a washer/dryer. This house was a great home base. Come to Acadia with a plan

We had an excellent family trip. The house is in a perfect location- walkable to all the Bar Harbor shops and restaurants and only a couple minutes from Acadia. The house comfortably slept 6 adults. Very clean and convenient layout. Enjoyed coffee on the porch and the smell of lilacs every morning. Host was very responsive. Would definitely stay here again.

The house was so charming and so close to downtown Bar Habor! It was exactly what we needed - we spent days out and about, and spent evenings at the house relaxing. Note: there are two full bathrooms but one is on the first floor (all bedrooms are on the second floor). It wasn’t any big deal; just be aware. They have lots of reading material and games, and the outdoor seating area is great after long days sightseeing. We mostly ate out but the kitchen is well equipped with all the basics (including wine openers ). Visiting right before Memorial Day was ideal because it wasn’t too busy yet. Loved our visit and this home away from home!

Home was very clean, and great location in Bar Harbor. We were able to walk into town to the shops and restaurants. The blueberry pie was a very thoughtful treat after a very long drive. It was an old home that was updated tastefully and we were very comfortable during our stay. Owner was responsive to my texts.Unfortunately I had to do some work, but the office off of master bedroom was a great space to get away for a little bit for some quiet work time.If you are an avid reader, this place is for you - so many books. Rekindled with an author that I used to read and had forgotten about. I left the book there and purchased it on my Kindle. :)The only suggestion I would have is to update some of the kitchen items. We like to cook and two of the pans have the non-stick coating which was peeling off, and definitely saw better days. Serving bowls would also be helpful. Only had a few small cereal bowls. That's minor and overall we really enjoyed our stay. As this was our first time in Bar Harbor we don't have anything to compare to, but the price was reasonable compared to other properties when we booked, so I'd definitely stay here again.

Check in was a breeze and the entire house, including the kitchen layout, worked really well for our family of six. Absolutely wonderful to be able to walk into town and a quick drive to the park entrances. Fire pit in the back, lovely front porch to enjoy morning coffee. Shaun was a lovely host! About the host

Hosted by Shaun Farrar

Host profile image

One of us writes books for children and young adults. The other one has spent most of his adult life protecting and serving the people of Bar Harbor.

This house on Ledgelawn is where we spent a lot of happy time, celebrating the awesomeness that is Bar Harbor.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property because we love Bar Harbor and its quirky, outdoorsy appeal. Ledgelawn Avenue has always been a place for families. Even though Bar Harbor is so small, thousands of trick-or-treaters come to our door. On the Fourth of July, the parade stages at the ballfield and finishes on this street. This is small town America at its best. Right here.

And then there's the park. You can run out the door, turn left and in less than five minutes, you are in one of the most beautiful places in the country.

It's hard to beat that.

What makes this property unique

We love the front porch, the neighbors. We love the way the lilacs smell in Spring and the way the cook-outs smell in the summer. The back yard with its deck and trees just beyond the fence, make you feel secluded even though it's just a short jaunt into town.

There are lots of tiny quirks in the house like an occasional old-fashioned light fixture, double ovens, and an overall light and airy feel.
