Set your clocks back 70 years, and fish for your breakfast from your own dock or row-boat. This setting has been described as the nicest setting in Chatham. Very Private. Bordered by Conservation Land, our 2 1/2 acre get-away is a treasure from times past. A row boat, fishing gear, kayak, paddle board and a lot of serenity. Very nice master bedroom w/ queen size bed, and a great second bedroom with two twin bed and bathroom.

The views from the house are amazing! The large yard is very private and there are lots of outdoor activities for families. Mike was a responsive host and we enjoyed our time in Chatham.
Spent a family trip for a week up at the Cape. This was a great house, with fantastic views. Mike the host was super accommodating. Everything was as advertised. We would definitely recommend it and rent it again if/when we go back up.
Mike was very responsive and the listing was just as described with a great scenic view of the pond. We enjoyed fishing from the dock but most of our time was spent exploring the Cape. The week was very hot and the 2 AC units kept the entire house very comfortable. Thank you Mike for hosting us for our annual visit to the Cape!
Our group of five just enjoyed a wonderful stay at Stillwater. The cottage is as quaint as described. The property is tucked away and feels very secluded, but everything to see and do around the Cape is easily accessible.
The private pond access is fantastic, and boats, kayaks, and fishing poles are available on site. Our kids loved rowing out onto the pond and fishing from the boat. Just watching the water and birds and other wildlife, whether from the house or the dock, is so relaxing.
The host was very easy to communicate with and even offered us early check-in.
We loved Stillwater and would definitely return.

Stunning setting, filthy house
You’ll need to balance the tremendous pros versus the depressing cons of this house: Pros: an incredibly beautiful setting on a quiet pond with a private dock and canoe, rowboat, and bodyboards. Cons: the house was filthy, with black mold in the dishwasher and fridge, cobwebs everywhere including INSIDE the kitchen cabinets (some containing dead spiders), and grime and food in the kitchen drawers. The owner was responsive when the wifi went out but not when, on the last day, we asked for a refund for the cleaning fee; he ghosted us and has ever since. Perhaps if we’d mentioned the roach on the kitchen door he might have, but at the time it seemed like piling on. When VRBO contacted him to follow up, he claimed we trashed his place, though we’d returned the boats, beach chairs etc. to where we’d found them, made the beds, left no dirty dishes, emptied the dishwasher, etc. We’ve rented on the Cape through VRBO for over 15 years, know the drill, and have never had a problem or made a complaint--but also never encountered a house like this. (Also, we saw no evidence of a hot tub, though the listing says there is one.)

First, I'd like to say we had two tenants prior to this tenant and one after. These tenants, one of which has been using our cottage annually for many years, were very pleased with their stay.
Initially, I was alarmed when this tenant began her negative comments to me as proper maintenance of our cottage is very important to our family. Then, as this tenant's comments became more frequent, harsh, and she concluded her stay, I realized her whole objective was money. This is the first negative feed back we have ever had. Never had a hot tub and never will.

Could have stayed forever!
Just returned from a 5 nights/4 days mini-reunion with "old" friends at this cottage on Stillwater Pond. Every one of us LOVED it and didn't want to leave. It is exactly as pictured and described and I agree with the other reviewers. We are long time Cape Cod visitors and truthfully, this is one of the best finds, especially for our needs - peace, privacy. While in the past we have ventured out often to tour and shop, this time we didn't want to go anywhere. Just to sit and watch the lake, morning, noon and night, was perfect, except runs to get lobster rolls and lobsters. The lake/pond was very healthy - clean, clear and perfect temperature for swimming every day and for paddleboarding. None of us had paddleboarded before and we all got up and enjoyed it. The place is well equipped with outdoor equipment - row boat, paddleboard, fishing gear, lots of chairs for the dock, noodles, etc. Plus a great hammock, nice chairs and tables right outside door where we sat and drank our morning coffee each day.
I was planning on renting a bike for the time but you have to ride on Rte 28 to get anywhere so I happily gave that idea up. I did take a wonderful walk to Crows Pond and Pleasant Bay at 6 am watching the sun rise. At that time of the morning Rte 28 was okay to walk along. Being right across from Ryder's Cove and Pleasant Bay was an added benefit.
Peter, grandson of original owners and caretaker is very pleasant, helpful, and yet ensures your privacy. He stays in apt above the garage. Available if you need him.
There is a wonderful outdoor shower, in fact, I think the indoor shower was only used once in 5 days.
If you are looking for modern, wired (altho there is a new TV we did not turn on), and luxury, this is not for you. If you are looking for clean, well-preserved, well-equipped, peace and quiet then this cottage is a good bet.
Good fishing, good kayaking and paddle boarding, good deep sea fishing and convenient to beaches and whale watching. Chatham is a good place to vacation.
Exactly what I expected for the price point. Will rent again next year if available. The setting is unbeatable and the cottage is an authentic cape with all the character, history, and charm. AC works well, but does not beat the breeze off the pond with all the windows and doors open. Screens are completely competent to accomodate the breeze without bringing the wildlife with it.
Beautiful location, very responsive host. The only reason I'd give 4, rather than 5 stars, is the need to bring your own sheets, blankets and towels. There is literally everything else you could need at the house. The place is a bit dated (as described!), but very clean, and charming.
Pond was great for fishing, swimming and boating (all equipment easily accessible and provided), and close to the ocean. We'll definitely return.
This property gave us everything we needed for our vacation and more: a pond where we could swim and paddle board (paddle board and row boat included for our use); a gorgeous view; and spacious grounds including a hammock from which you could enjoy the Cape breeze and more pond views. The property is .8 mile from Jacknife Beach and very close to downtown Chatham. Mike was a wonderful host and gave us helpful info in advance of our stay. The cottage itself is quaint and full of history; the master bedroom is charmingly decorated, the living room very comfortable, and a bonus sun room gave our kids a place to play and could serve as a third bedroom. We hope to return!
This is such a lovely place. It's like a movie set of a cape cod vacation home. We spent a lot of time in and around the house because it's just so nice there.
Had a great time on the Cape and this cottage is fairly central to everything. The house is very quiet and private and has a fantastic view of the pond and birds. Loved getting out on the rowboat, too. The cottage is a family cottage that has clearly been loved for many generations. Not quite luxe accommodations but comfortable and homey. WiFi would be a nice addition, but ideally you aren’t spending your time in the house or online! The touristy but fun little town of Chatham is a quick drive away. Grocery store is just 10 minutes away, and the beaches are all a short drive. Nice to get away from the crowds and come back to a quiet setting. Peter lives onsite but he is out and about so much we hardly saw him. All in all, this was a great find. Thanks again!
We enjoyed our stay. It’s a little cute cottage with great view! The cottage has all basic needs for our week away and feel go back time. We couldn’t really enjoy the pond because the weather. Both Peter and Mike are great host!!

Simple and sublime
My husband and I recently returned from a week-long stay at this beautiful little cottage, minutes from downtown Chatham. We were attracted to the cottage for its location, price, and amenities, and were not disappointed. The caretaker was very responsive from the get-go, responding promptly to my email inquiries and follow-up. He was very flexible with our arrival and departure. Once we arrived, he was able to provide some useful tips for enjoying the immediate area and the cottage's amenities. He also shared some family history and cottage facts with us, which enhanced our appreciation of the property. The cottage is exactly as described and pictured, though the few photos shared on this website don't really do its charm justice! As a prior guest noted, the appeal of this home is its simplicity. It is borderline rustic, but comes with all the comforts of a seasonal cottage of its era. The kitchen is well-stocked with pots, pans, glassware, dishware, etc. The caretaker was also generous enough to provide paper supplies (napkins, paper towels, toilet paper) and cleaning supplies (dish detergent, laundry soap, hand soap), along with bed linens (though we had brought our own). The cottage was tidy upon arrival, and easy to manage and keep clean. We were also provided a grill with charcoal for our use, a rowboat, and even a stand-up paddle board, which we used to great advantage for the first time! The best feature of this cottage is its location. It is private, yet accessible. Its setting on a wooded rise above a large kettle pond is an ideal vantage point from which to enjoy sunrises, sunsets, and everything in between! Sunlight floods this cottage all day long. I have never before so happily nor so willingly awakened at 5:30 each morning...automatically! The wildlife abounds here. Birds galore. A family of swans greeted us on Day 1 and kept us company throughout, along with the ospreys, owls, cat birds, red-winged blackbirds, herons...incredible! SUCH an enjoyable experience. Only 5 minutes from Chatham, about 10-15 minutes from Orleans. ONLY (minor) downside was the blind turn into/out of the drive to the property, which made leaving the cottage each day a bit dicey. And this location is not suited for easily walking to nearby areas nor venturing out on bicycle. But so easy to drive everywhere, and still close to biking and hiking trails, we didn't mind a bit. We'll surely plan a return!

Stillwater Pond is a Peaceful Oasis!
We stayed at the cottage on Stillwater Pond in June 2013 and cannot wait to return! The cottage is cozy, quaint and clean. The cottage has been in the same family since its construction in the 1950s and offers a warm, homey charm. Please note that this is a rustic cabin-like atmosphere. The furnishings are "shabby-chic," so if you are looking for granite counter tops, sub-zero refrigerators, high end furniture, and central air, this is not that. That said, we absolutely loved our stay. One of the best features is the breath-taking view of Stillwater Pond -- morning, noon, & night, the pond offers a calming reprieve that set a relaxing tone for our week-long stay. We really enjoyed swimming, boating, and fishing on the pond. The cottage is private and nestled in the woods and provides great opportunities for bird-watching. Yet, we were just a few minutes' drive to downtown Chatham and Lighthouse Beach, which offers daily morning yoga. There is no wireless internet, but we were able to check email at the Chatham Library and used this as an opportunity to be "unplugged" from our laptops. We enjoyed exploring other areas of the Cape, such as Wellfleet and Provincetown. The owner was highly responsive to our questions and accurately advertised all that the cottage had to offer. We will definitely return and we highly recommend this property to others!!

You probably can not find an authentic cottage like this on Cape Cod today.. You will be amazed at the privacy and serenity. If you are looking for time gone by, this setting is perfect. Very private, and yet conveniant to Chatham, and the outer Cape.
