About this property

Escape to the American Riviera in our Charming Santa Barbara Bungalow

Originally built in 1930, the property maintains its old world charm with its white picket fence and quaint, single story appearance, but was updated in 2013 with a modern kitchen, refinished oak hardwood floors and beautiful double pane windows throughout. The home has been decorated to compliment the look and feel of the home and area. The neutral shades work well with our natural and vintage beach décor. Each piece was carefully selected to make this home cozy and comfortable so guests could enjoy their stay in a tranquil setting.

The family room is open and comfortable with a Sofa-U-Love sofa and 46" HD flat screen TV equipped with a Roku device for all your streaming options. The kitchen is completely remodeled and updated with all new stainless steel appliances and is fully stocked with everything you need to prepare your meals. Great natural lighting and counter with bar stools allow family and friends to gather where the action is. Spacious dining room with service for six is just off the kitchen. The two bathrooms were completely remodeled in 2013 with all new, modern fixtures. The master has plenty of closet space with a cushion topped Serta California king mattress and the other 2 bedrooms have the same bed in a queen size. Those 2 rooms also have access to back porch/yard from the bedroom through french doors. All bedrooms are flat panel TV equipped with Roku streaming devices.

The backyard was landscaped in June 2013 with a 400 square foot flagstone patio, lush palms and Santa Barbara native foliage. An 8'x10' pergola provides ample shade for our patio table that comfortably seats six. A second patio table with seating for 4 can be found in our front yard garden. Guests can challenge one another to a friendly game of ping pong on our outdoor Kettler table. A new grilling 'station', complete with overhead market umbrella and four burner gas grill lets you BBQ in style. The setting is completed with a propane space heater (for those cool Santa Barbara evenings) and a couple of comfortable lounge chairs.

The detached garage has been converted into a game room straight from your youth (if you're a child of the '80's, that is) with over a half dozen original, full size classic arcade games including Pac-Man and Donkey Kong (no quarters necessary!) A front loading washer/dryer is also available to clean up after your jaunts to the beach. If you'd like to use our Electra cruisers to get around town they are available for rent. The front porch is a great place to hang out and if you prefer more privacy, the back yard is very private and peaceful.

Downtown Santa Barbara is an easy 4-5 blocks away. State Street is know for it's shopping and dining so you have everything you need. The Daily Grind is just around the corner so you don't have to go far for your espresso coffee. During the day, drive 5 minutes up to the historic Mission, or 5 minutes down to the beach. Or even better, just bike straight down 2 miles to the ocean. The Santa Barbara Bowl, within walking distance, is a beautiful place to enjoy concerts under the stars. Parks for the kids and all the best Santa Barbara has to offer is within easy reach of the property. For an excursion, enjoy a 30 minute drive to the Santa Ynez wine country or venture further to the lovely towns of Solvang, Pismo Beach, or San Luis Obisbo.

Having a small family of four that loves the comforts of home when we travel, we have been enamored with vacation rentals for almost two decades and now own three vacation properties, each with something unique to offer our guests. It all started with our mountain property in the Lake Tahoe area which we have been offering since 2000 and hosted hundreds of guests. We added our charming beach bungalow in Santa Barbara in 2013 and that has been such a big hit, we are replicating the effort with a beach area property on the border of North Pacific Beach and La Jolla.

Why they chose this property

We spent 3 years looking for a beach property to complement the mountain property that we had been offering as a vacation rental for over a decade. We began our search in the Newport Beach area, mainly because we had family not too far away, but after 2+ years of searching and dozens of offers we lost out on, we realized it wasn't in the cards. We switched gears and focused on the Santa Barbara area, which we were visiting at least once a year, and while not super close to family and friends, made up for it with its lower congestion and charming appeal. We found our gem (which was actually already under contract, but in a bit of trouble) within two weeks. The home and area has exceeded every expectation and we sometimes wonder why Santa Barbara wasn't first on our list.

What makes this property unique

The home was a complete dump when it was purchased by the 'flippers' who bought the property before us, but they did a pretty amazing job of transforming it from ugly ducking into prince charming. They took care of the inside of the house and we had the vision to transform the backyard into a vacation paradise. The location is perfect -- just far enough away from downtown to give you a unique 'Santa Barbara' locals experience, but close enough to walk to if you really want to take in the full Santa Barbara tourist experience.
