We recently stayed at this wonderful property for a getaway with our grown-up children and grandchild. It was very comfortable, offering plenty of space for everyone to relax. The house was very well-equipped and came stocked with lots of helpful items we needed for the baby. Everything was spotlessly clean and thoughtfully prepared, making our stay smooth and highly enjoyable. We would happily return!

Lovely weeks holiday

Great weeks holiday. Alan the owner was a delight to deal with and would visit again. Good location close to La Rochelle and the beautiful countryside. Niort is the quiet town that's is a fabulous town and definitely worth a visit, with great restaurants.

Great holiday

Lovely old property with everything we could need. The grounds and pool are superb and very private. Our Children and dog were safe and had a wonderful time. Communication with our host and the housekeepers was excellent.

Beautiful house, pool, garden and location

Amazing house, very well equipped with everything you'll need for your stay. The pool was warm, clean and a good size. Thd village is quiet but its a good location for exploring and plenty to do within a short drive. I highly recommend a boat trip on the canals.

Can’t say enough good things about this wonderful home. The hosts were brilliant giving us lots of information about the local area which helped us plan our trip, Ile de Ré was a family favourite with something for everyone. We are a family with a teen just completing exams, two younger children and us; exhausted parents in need of a break and this house ticks all the boxes. Lots of family games, lots of tables to eat at, a perfectly sized kitchen and the pool was completely perfect in every way. Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday! We will be back!

Wonderful holiday home

We spent two weeks at La Retraite and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house has everything you need and in fact is probably one of the best equipped kitchens of any holiday rental we have stayed in. The grounds are spacious and very secure (great for dogs). The pool area with decking is especially pleasant and we enjoyed many a day and evening in this area. The house is in a small village setting but is close to the amenities of Mauze a short drive away with a great bakery and well stocked supermarket. The owners are very responsive and helpful. We would definitely recommend a stay at La Retraite for those looking for a relaxing break in the La Rochelle area.

Great house to relax on vacation - Tolles Haus mit allen Extras

We had a lovely stay at this very warm and welcoming home! It's an excellent place for setting off in the area La Rochelle-Rochefort-Cognac-Niort. In Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon you will find a supermarket and boulangerie. The house is very suitable for 4 and more persons and the owners are dog friendly. The kitchen is equipped with all necessary things and the heated pool was great, especially in October. Ein großartiges Haus für 4 und mehr Personen. Es ist mit allen nötigen Dingen ausgestattet und der beheizte Pool war großartig. October 2018

Family stay at La retraite

The house was large and perfect for a large family vacation. The pool was excellent. So much space on the grounds. The house also contains so much for us to use such as the bikes and baby equipment. The property itself was amazing. The location was very quiet. Lovely for dog walks, bike rides and a good base to set off to other locations in the car. For us, the location was a little too quiet and would have liked a bar or a shop more in walking distance but we were aware of this when booking. Fortunately the gardens were lovely enough for us to enjoy with a glass of wine in the evening.

A week at La Retraite

We experienced some problems with electric cuts 9 in all and initial cleanliness of the house. The caretakers responded each time and eventually corrected these by the end of our stay. In all other respects the house and pool were perfect for a family holiday. Alan responded to each call promptly.

Belle maison très confortable, parfaitement équipée pour 10 personnes. Un peu déçus...

La propriété est idéalement située : proche de charmantes petites villes, pas loin de La Rochelle et à quelques encablures des grandes plages de l'océan. De l'extérieur, la maison est très belle, le jardin bien entretenu (pour ce qui n'est pas des nombreuses fausses plantes en plastiques, toutefois très bien faites) et très agréable, et l'espace autour de la piscine top. Beaucoup de chaises longues et plusieurs tables extérieures permettent de s'y relaxer. Nous y avons passé des journées très agréables. La maison est très grande, bien décorée, la cuisine bien équipée pour cuisiner, il ne manque rien. Nous avons apprécié le pack de provisions qui nous attendait. Pourtant, dès la porte d'entrée franchie, nous avons été un peu déçus. L'intérieur paraissait sale, en partie dû à un manque d'entretien régulier (joints des douches très noirs, portes rouleaux papiers WC et poubelles rouillées, tâches sur le carrelage, tapis dans les chambres plus très propres, en bref la maison a vieilli). Nous avons eu plusieurs déconvenues : intérieur du congélateur sale, vaisselle rangée sale des précédents locataires, chewing gums collés dans la poubelle... Ainsi, la fourchette de prix de la location (plusieurs milliers d'euros la semaine) ne correspond pas à ce que nous avons eu et étions en droit d'attendre. Cela dit, la communication avec Alan a été excellente de A à Z et malgré nos déconvenues, notre séjour a été agréable. The property is ideally located. From the outside, the house is very beautiful, the garden well maintained and very pleasant, and the space around the swimming pool excellent. Plenty of lounge chairs and several outdoor tables allow you to relax. We spent very pleasant days there. The house is very large, well decorated, the kitchen well equipped for cooking, nothing is missing. We enjoyed the pack of provisions. However, we were a little disappointed. The interior appeared dirty, partly due to a lack of regular maintenance (black shower gaskets, rusty toilet roll holders and rubbish bins, stains on the tiles, carpets not very clean, in short the house has aged ). We had several disappointments: dirty freezer, dirty dishes from previous tenants, chewing gum stuck in the trash ... Thus, the rental price range (several thousand euros for the week) does not correspond to what we got and were entitled to expect. Having said that, communication with Alan was excellent and despite our disappointments, our stay was pleasant.
