The Cottage at Mendocino Farmhouse is part of a family property in a redwood forest just minutes from the village of Mendocino and the ocean. The cottage has all the amenities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Step outside your door do a beautiful garden with flowers in season that are a haven for butterflies and hummingbirds. We even have a small flock of bantam chickens in the garden for your enjoyment. Come visit soon and see for yourselves.

Had a great stay in the cottage, what a special property! really enjoyed saying hi to the chickens in the morning and ending the day with a fire. can’t wait to come back again!

Margie is very welcoming and friendly. The cottage is bright, comfortable, and quiet. Fireplace is a real addition. Location is terrific.

This was an amazing cabin in the woods. Cozy place the we enjoyed for 2 nights. We made dinner both nights and had wine by the fireplace. We enjoyed the garden area and the chickens tending to the area. Margie was a great host.

This property is truly magical! Margie was the perfect host warm, welcoming, and incredibly thoughtful. She had everything ready for us to settle right in, including coffee, milk, English muffins, butter, and fresh fruit. The cottage itself is absolutely charming, surrounded by beautiful flowers and entertaining chickens that made the setting feel even more special. We’re so glad we discovered this gem and can’t wait to return. Thank you, Margie, for making our stay so wonderful!

We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay in this cozy cottage. Having the fireplace and the chicks nearby made it especially fun. It was so peaceful and quiet in the huge redwoods. Margie has thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. Having some eggs from the chickens was a nice touch as was the homemade apricot preserves. It was nice to be able to visit with Margie and to learn about the history of the Enchanted Cottage and her family.

Wonderful, charming comfortable cottage with all the amenities including fresh eggs from the chickens just outside the door. Surrounded by a beautiful garden it was secluded and serene. Margie was a fantastic host from our first email to throughout the visit.A special place and close to the town of Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

The Cottage

We were so cozy and comfortable here. There are some great upgrades here (kitchen/bathroom), but they don’t take away the charm of the cottage. You are close to Mendocino, but don’t get much fog. We enjoyed sitting outside. The flower gardens are amazing. The chickens were out of their coops a couple of days and they are fun to watch. We had some confusion over WiFi password, but thanks to Margie’s quick response, we were able to work it out.

The cottage was adorable! And so well maintained. It was clean with a few necessities as well as niceties (fresh eggs!) left in good supply. The surrounding garden as well as the forest gave it such a romantic, secluded feeling. Would definitely stay again!

You just have to understand that this is a cozy cottage, a little funky. Everything requires a little thought, adaptation. Like creaky floors, well & septic. Surrounded by giant trees and a very well-tended garden. Greeter cat, dog, chickens. Our host, Margie, knows everything about the area. Not like a posh hotel or inn. Pretty much the reason we default to VRBO.

Garden in the woods

Lovely cottage and garden. We were able to totally relax in this hidden spot tucked away in the forest ! Totally loved the Silky hens and their companions the game hens. I highly recommend this cottage to for a relaxing get away

Cute and quiet

This is a serene property with lovely outdoor sitting area. This cottage is surrounded by views of redwoods and doug fir trees. It's a very short drive to Mendocino village, and Big River. Inside, the cottage has just about everything you could need. The bed is comfortable. The cottage is well equipped and also well decorated. We've stayed here several times and have enjoyed each visit.

Cozy cottage in the woods

The cottage is very comfortable and Margie is a great host. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking meals. The location is very quiet and just a short drive into the town of Mendocino. The fireplace makes it especially cozy. Margie provided enough food for a breakfast so we didn't have to shop when we arrived. She was very responsive, communicated everything we needed, and didn't bother us while we were there. We've stayed here several times and look forward to going back!

Mother daughter weekend.

My daughter and I enjoyed this lovely cottage in the redwoods. I really appreciated the rambling gardens and it was so sweet to walk out and say good morning to the chickens. We had a fire one night and it was just so cozy and comfortable. Great place for a mother daughter getaway or a couple. Beautiful area with plenty of hiking and restaurants.

Amazing Stay

You have to stay here to fully appreciate this amazing cottage immersed in the magnificence of the redwoods because words, alone, will not do it justice. The little house is inviting, clean and comfortable and Margie welcomed us with fresh eggs and warm hospitality It is completely private so walking in the backyard felt like strolling through your personal forest. We kept looking up in a 360 manner because the mature redwoods are all around, including one that is 200 or 300 years old! The chickens move about in a quiet, isolationistic manner, so, you must look hard to find them. It was fun to watch them from time to time. We stayed 3 nights during which we prepared all 3 breakfasts and 2 dinners here (all cooking and dining needs were in the cottage) with food from Harvest Market in Mendocino. The last night we ordered take-out from Patterson’s Pub, which is next door to Harvest Market, and had an amazing burger “at home”. Mendocino is less than 10 minutes away (6 minutes per Google), so the stores and restaurants are incredibly convenient. And the west side of Mendocino becomes Mendocino Headlands State Park. This oceanside preserve has magnificent overlooks from its winding trails, complete with crashing waves against rock formations, one of which featured a snoozing seal. Speaking of parks, there are a number of them along with coastal access points and a lighthouse, all short drives away. We can’t wait to return.

After raising my children here on the family property I ran our bed and breakfast in the house and barn for over 35 years. Along the way, I met some wonderful people some of who came back every year. We even had Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell and their son Wyat stay for six weeks while filming the movie Overboard. Nice people.
My gardens are important to me and give me much pleasure as do my chickens who give me lots of eggs.
I am celebrating living in Mendocino for the past 50 years having moved here in 1971.
It's not always been easy but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else and I'm lucky to have my family and friends close by. I'm a happy, lucky person.
